Yep. Part if it is Bob's ego and how ownership gives him relevance in the sporting world and with celebrities.

Deferring that to Jonathan is something he clearly is not ready to do (whatever the reason is..)
I think Robert is fine and well-intended, but he's old, and age has consequences, some good, some bad. I wouldn't get all huffy about it. We are all headed in that direction, after all, and youth is hardly an unalloyed blessing.

Higher picks increase the likelihood a draftee will pan out, obviously. Using phony anecdotal arguments does not justify ignoring this fact. That there is no ironclad correlation is irrelevant. Whine about the lack of guarantees in the draft if you must, but, as with most things in life, all we can do is to enhance our chances of success. That certainly is not on offer does not legitimate failing to do so.
Great point. The way some of these guys talk we might as well trade all our high draft picks for back ups. What does it matter? It's all a crap shoot, anyway.

I’m not surprised the veterans think this. A few of those guys experienced superbowls. They know what it takes. Let’s take David Andrew’s for example. He’s a two time Super Bowl champion and has experienced greatness.

The story is out.

Only 2-3 quotes, pretty much everything we already know.

Wise quote was the most telling, "he was a great leader, great coach, GREAT FRIEND."

If this were the boys and girls club rec league, Mayo would have been a hall of fame coach.
Guys like White and those that talk up Mayo can only offer classic nonsense praise devoid of any substance.

Compare that to what Detroit players say about Ben Johnson (quotes gathered by @KCSVEN). This is what it sounds like when people are genuinely impressed by their leader. Nobody uses the word "leader" and yet everyone sounds like they're being capably led.

Lions RB Gibbs: "The stuff he comes up with every game is crazy," Gibbs said. "You don't see really stuff like that."

Lions WR Jameson Williams: “He’s a mastermind on the offensive side of the ball."

Lions RB Montgomery: "Oh yeah, he’s a genius, knows a lot, teaching me a lot,” Montgomery said. “I’ve only been here for a short period of time, but I’ve learned so much about defenses that I hadn’t known, and me being in the league for four years that I’m learning now. Really smart guy, definitely lucky to be able to be in his offense."

Lions WR Tim Patrick: “He comes up with things that you don’t really think about, but he’s also open-minded to listen to guys that have been here that have input. He finds a way to make it work. A coach that listens to his players but also puts his own touch on it, that’s hard to find."

Lions WR St. Brown-praised Johnson’s tireless work ethic and strategic mindset, stating, “I think what they don’t see is the amount of work that he puts into his craft. He’s up dissecting defenses for hours on end. Honestly, I don’t know if the man sleeps. The thing that Ben does that’s so great is he’s not trying to set up a play during a game, he’s setting it up weeks before.”

Bears QB Caleb Williams: It was fascinating to watch because he had wrinkles for counters and things like that throughout the game," Williams said of Johnson's game plan vs. the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, via The Athletic. "I think he's obviously done really well. So it would be cool to see how that all goes down."

Caleb probably making a pitch for a guy he wants as his future HC.

Yeah I'm on board with ya.

The only pause, and it's a legitimate pause, are the issues that the Bears request has brought up.

He has to be on board with bringing in an experienced veteran defensive coach, who will handle everything there. I don't know who that could be. Same with specials team. We all want this guy to stick.

There have to be systems in place, much like there are for a rookie QB. I think he could be overwhelmed initially from how last year's interviews were reported.

Let him focus on what he does best and get accumulated with the rest.

If he understand this, I am all in baby!

Fans here love the firing, but there's some pushback to it from the national stage.

1) Mayo was hired to replace the GOAT who seemed to have fallen off on the GM side but still regarded well as an in-season coach.
2) The record didn't get any worse from last year.
3) The roster was considered terrible to start with and most feel the GM did a poor job in the draft this year after Maye.
4) They sat on crazy amounts of cap space rather than actually giving Mayo the best talent possible to do his best with.

I'm not saying this was the wrong decision to move on, but that can be true while also acknowledging that they put him in a very bad situation and thus firing him after one year, never mind in the middle of that first year, looks pretty bad optically. I think waiting until after the year made sense with how bad it already looks.

Think about it from the standpoint of a new coach coming in... BB is considered the GOAT and the first time he had a legit bad season, they fired him. Then the next year, they fired the first year guy. If you're coming in, what happens if they don't turn it around in a year. Would the Krafts be ok with a 6-11 season next year? Success isn't always linear so a new coach coming in might need a year to focus on implementing his system and finding "his guys" rather than an immediate focus on turning it around. Successful head coaches don't always post great records year 1. I think that's something you have to be concerned with as a new coach coming in here - do the Krafts (and the fanbase since the Krafts seem pretty conscious of and driven by fan morale) have attainable expectations and/or any level of patience?

**** the national media, the Vast Majority of whom absolutely Suck. They have No ****ing Idea how toxic this atmosphere was, and still is.

League rules say he has to spend money. X amount.

I asked is he going to INVEST in the roster? Throwing out 1 year deals to the Gibson's and hoopers of the world is a deeply unserious endeavor.

And those were the children's Only Two good transactions, aside from the one no-brainer draft pick, for the Entire Calendar Year, which also had them near the very Top of the waiver claim order throughout it...

What was truly unserious - and Fireable all by itself - was their handling of the OL & WR positions, including the ass-igning of the "coaches" thereto.

The St.Brown quote reminds me of how much work BB put into game planning against offenses. Hope his interview goes well.

How do we know Cov is part of the culture problem? What did I miss?

Too many on his defense talking like Pro-Bowlers and performing like Practice-Squadders, for starters...

The little WR from Samford's an UN-Qualified ****ing Clown. He should be told to Get The **** Out long before AVP gets told that.

Thats on Mayo more than Cov

I prefer Covington and Hughes be let go today and then let the new HC decide on the others.

Don't forget Hughes' ass-istant Kid 'n Play, and the two OL "coaches" as well.

Nashvile's current Nissan Stadium was obsolete before it even opened its doors, basically a mid tier college facility. The only thing it had going for it was the location, which is why the new one is going up next to it. A dome in the city of Nashville will draw enough events to hopefully pay for itself. A dome in Foxborough would not only suck, it would never come close to breaking even.

I ****ing HATE non-retractable domes, ESPECIALLY in places that aren't that dam cold to begin-with.

What we here - and everywhere else - need is more fields of Natural Grass, man.

Yep Underwood as well. But I happen to think Peter’s is a good OL coach who had injuries and ****ty talent.

Imagine if Mayo took over for Parcells after 1996 season….
