I don't think it's control if you stay out of it and don't meddle. Which by all accounts Reid doesn't go ear that stuff.

I agree on your second point to a degree.
OK we define "control" differently.

I also think that Vrabel is going to come in trying to sell the idea that he will be the next Bill Belichick and do a bunch of things Kraft is comfortable with and not challenge him because it gives Vrabel more freedom.

Ben Johnson will come in and say "uhhh this isn't how teams do things anymore, I can help bring you into the future".
I will say in regards to some of your posts... I think there were some different levels to the whole idea of BB playing both roles. He always had final say, but it was a very different dynamic with Pioli and then Caserio compared to what it was at the end. BB as the final decision maker I thought worked out well when he legitimately trusted, valued, and empowered the guys working in the front office. He may have had final say over Pioli and Caserio but it seemed he genuinely trusted their input and it was collaborative. Also, maybe most importantly, they had non stop success. That helps.

By the end of BB's time here, it seemed he didn't actually fully trust the people on his staff. Or not that he didn't trust them personally, just that he didn't trust their inputs as much. I think the biggest cause of the fall off with BB at the end was that he just ran out of "his guys" to surround himself with and instead of being the head football czar of a well run organization, he was the grump old man who felt "if you want something done right, then do it yourself."

I think the reason why one guy in charge isn't going to work is that there's too much bouncing around from team to team to forge those connects like BB did. You used to need to put in years of work behind the scenes before you got hired by someone else to a big role. Now everyone wants to promote the new kid on the block from every successful coaching staff or scouting department. As football is getting to be bigger business it's getting more and more lucrative as a viable career path on not just the playing side, but also the coaching and front office side. So you aren't getting guys that have worked together for decades like Pioli and BB did. Caserio was in the Pats' organization for about 2 decades before going to HOU. Tough to rush those type of deep working relationships.

I like everything about Vrabel but Tommy Rees could be in line for a NFL HC or a College HC job in 2 years.
I don’t want to do that to Maye.
Just starting to read up on him
He’s interesting and a rising star
If he is a rising star then I would rather Drake get taught by someone that would put him in position to excel
and worry about when that coach will possibly leave
If Rees is the better OC. Why settle for less just to have continuity

Do we have word that Johnson is taking the interview?

I really expected for him to just outright turn it down.

Why will Ben Johnson choose us over bears or jags.

Jags -- great weather, no taxes, lots of foundational pieces , very easy division.

The only draw I see for us is if Johnson views Maye as a top 5 QB in league and wants an empty canvas on which he can paint whatever he wants and give the thrill of working in a start-up. There is too much to do for us here. Saving grace - we have huge cap space, but sadly free agents class is not great. Unless she wants to cement his legacy as the coach who won a Superbowl by inheriting mess created by Bill and mayo. That's a huge leg up.
Because they are the Jags and always seem to collapse and remain mediocre year after year. Not sold on Lawrence right now either…Chicago would be a good spot….but NE would be the best for Johnson. I still think Krafts already have handshake deal with Vrabel done

It’s been reported that he accepted by several sources.

Conspiracy theory:

Wolfe was kept because he wanted to splurge on FA but Kraft relled him in., while not completely botching this draft, if we consider that Polk and Baker are TBD due to coaching being **** and Wallace being ok-ish. Basically, we hit on 2 QBs (one to start, one to back-up with unknown potential.)

Anyway, what will be interesting is the dynamic from the to-be Head Coach and him (or whoever is the GM), since they appear to be set at the top. I trully think that the head coach-to-be, at least the ones that are hot and sough after, will need to be convinced to come here, not the other way around. Would this dynamic impede a guy to come here, if he cant bring a guy he trusts at the top?

This is an exciting time to be a Patriots fan, but a dangerous one too

Covington MIGHT need to be let go?

Any predictions as to whether the sun will rise tomorrow?
Get rid of AVP and especially Covington….Covington is horrible

Raiders surprisingly keeping Pierce.
So if we don’t hire Vrabel he could very well end up the Jets HC.
