If patriots lose out, Travis Hunter could be theirs

As of tonight, with the #4 pick in the draft, I would trade down, multiple times, for picks both this year and next year... Then I would use my first pick this year, wherever it lands, on either UTexas LT Kelvin Banks or Ohio State LT Josh Simmons, provided measurements/medicals check out positively on each of them, respectively. Even if we sign Cam Robinson from the Vikings, we still need to have young, cheap talent in the pipeline to help protect The Franchise's blind side; and we have NOBODY in the building currently fitting that description.
I like your thinking. Trading down is a good idea if we can get a good deal.

One out of the box pick to consider- Ashton Jeanty. He can be a big receiving threat in addition to his incredible running back skills. I am pretty sure he will go top 10, so he would have to be the pick over a WR or OL. He is discounted because of the position and he is a bit on the small size. But I have seen what Saquon Barkley did for the eagles and Gibbs did for Lions.
His talent is undeniable. he averaged 191 yards per game rushing and came close to breaking Barry Sanders record.
It has been a long time since Patriots have had a top tier running back who can also catch passes out of backfield.
Jeanty would be like James White on steroids......

Theres still a possibility all 3 teams go qb, or maybe someone falls in love with carter? But i would not bet on it. if hunter is gone id be happy with any of tet/carter/graham.
I have a hard time believing ANY WR we take will ever pan out. I'm scarred from our Draft Past. Go Abdul Carter

Here's a video breakdown on McMillan. 6'5 and a huge red zone threat. Has some stuff to work on but you can't teach his size and athleticism.

I believe we sign Tee Higgins and draft McMillan then our WR corp becomes top notch.
1. Higgins
2. McMillan
3. Boutte
4. Douglas

Looks a LOT better than what we had this past season.

I do like this scenario.

Of course, Graham and Carter are likely to be more likely to succeed than Tet.

It all depends on who we are able to pick up in free agency.

If they can get a starting caliber LT in FA, I think they sit at 4 and take McMillan. If not, then hopefully find a trading partner a few spots down (6-8 range) and grab the LT there.

What are your thoughts on using one of the 2nd-rounders acquired during one of the trade-downs to help move-up into the late first round for Maye's old college teammate Omarion Hampton...?

He's going to run in the mid 4.5s to 4.6, and while is a good straight-ahead runner, if he goes sideways he's done for. Pass pro needs work. Good out of the backfield - really kind of a Rhamondre clone (except for the pass pro, he'd need to be worked hard in camp to get snaps in the regular season for this reason alone) You'll be able to get him in the second, if not the third, unless he somehow pulls a 4.4 out of his ass at the combine.

If we picked a running back in the top 10 then the whole Front Office needs fired.

I can live without drafting Ron Dayne 2.0 and his thousands of carries already on his tires in the top 10. I would be stunned if he went that high.

Especially when Cam Skattebo is basically the same guy, with half the mileage.

If there is a starting caliber LT in this draft, which is a legit question, you have to stay at 4 to get him.

I'd take Abdul Carter or Mason Graham at 4 over either of the tackles or Tet. We have no playmakers in the front 7 and the drop off from those two is far greater than the drop off from Banks Jr and Campbell to the second tier of tackles.

Tennessee and Giants may take QB's , that leaves Cleveland possibly taking Hunter then we have the pick of OT/WR/Edge.

Seems possible this early.

Or imagine Giants sign Darnold, grab Hunter and pair him with Nabers.

Yes, thats possible , it will be interesting to see what the Vikings do with Darnold / McCarthy (2 x knee surgeries)

What could have been a realistic scenario if we could have had the first overall ?
One first 2025 One second 2025 One first 2026 ?

If you can somehow steal Higgins and get Robinson or Staley at Tackle, I think Abdul Carter fills the next biggest need. Those are the 3 positions of most glaring need. After watching Herbert spend 5 seconds going through 5 reads on every play I'm buying in on Carter as the pick but does depend on free agency.

I didn't report it, Patriot reporters have said it and been out there for a while, not some new news.
I'm not saying its 100% proof but based on his history, adding the fact that reporters have said they talked to people close to BB and said he would trade down just adds to it. Nobody said they had a long discussion with BB, could be just that they know him and know he would trade down. This is more information to add to the analysis, that is all.
You'd think if you were trying to determine what BB might have done you might research it, and in doing so you might ask a Question like "What did people that know him well think he would have done" and then add that to the pile of information.
Is there some reason that people give a rat's ass what Belichick would have done in the draft? He wasn't exactly the king of the draft when he was here.
To those people who care I'll say the same thing that was said to me when Brady left. Time to move on.

If we can get that extra pick its a great idea. We desperately need rb upgrade

At least Atlanta is out of the playoffs, so their 3rd rounder that we own is #77, the 13th pick in the 3rd round. If they'd won their division the pick would have been at least #83.

So our first 5 picks are #4, #38, #69, 77, and #105 in round 4.

Just for reference. We picked Polk at 38 last year.

So frankly unless this team has a dramatic change and how they value players, they're probably screwed outside of that 4th overall pick.

Heading into yesterday, I think I was settling in on landing the #1 pick and trading down to #3 or 4 to take Abdul Carter as my #1 scenario, though open to the idea of Hunter too.

Well, we won't get the extra picks for moving back, but feels like we're in good position to land one of Carter or Hunter if we assume 2 QBs go before us, which seems likely.

Team has to absolutely nail this top pick though, whoever is making it. They need to do more than just hit the top pick and nothing else (which was the case last year) but they're in desperate need of blue chip talents and you can't **** up the #4 pick. I'm a bit hesitant on the uniqueness of Hunter for that reason, but I also don't pretend to be a scout or master talent evaluator. I think I'd probably lean Carter based on a more traditional projection, but that's honestly more of a cop out than me having any sort of scouting chops or making an informed decision.

Still not opposed to the idea of moving back if they think they can land a blue chip talent, but seems unlikely based on where they are now and the lack of a QB to entice teams to move up. Not to mention how limited the number of "blue chip talents" is in any draft. We absolutely have to prioritize landing one.
