Mayo cemented himself as a top 3 most hated individual by NE which is sad since many of us loved him as a player
He was a fantastic player. A terrible head coach. He simply wasn't ready to take the step of running an entire team. His next job should have been DC for a team, then work his way up. Kraft skipped the development process, hired an inexperienced guy to lead the team and paid the price.

They can make a decision on Wolf once they have some candidates for HC. If Vrabel wants his own guy as GM, that’s ok with me.
Wolf being on the staff doesn’t mean he’ll remain GM. He never officially was that role to begin with.

I really can’t tell what I think of Wolf in total, more just because the coaching was so bad.

Does anyone else think maybe Jonathon has more say in decisions now?

Robert loved Mayo and i'm not convinced, nor were many reporting journos, that he was going to be able to pull the pin due to sentimentality.

Not saying it's a bad thing and it makes sense tbh.
Bedard said he believes this change was largely driven by Jonathan

He’s 61. That’s not a dinosaur. He won a Super Bowl. That’s a proven winner. I don’t care that he had 3 winning seasons since 2003. You want the best offensive mind to coach Drake Maye? He’s out there. It’s Chucky.

Ben Johnson is cool. Vrabel is cool. But give me the guy who turned Rich Gannon into an all world QB.
I'm only going to tell you this once. Stay off the drugs

As I said in another thread, I like the idea of Vrabel.

There are similarities to Belichick’s and Vrabel’s coaching histories.

Both BB and Vrabel beat the Pats in playoff games while with the Browns and Titans.

Both are no nonsense types who will establish a disciplined culture.

Both were let go by the Browns and Titans, after front office conflicts, but really not because of the on field performances.

Yeah Ben Johnson is enticing, but I see Vrabel as more of the sure thing to right the franchise right now.

No one saw BB as a future great when the Browns let him go. Vrabel doesn’t have that history, YET.

And he WANTS to be here.

We will see. I think they’ll talk to Vrabel first and then Ben Johnson. Then they’ll do some other interviews with guys like Brian Flores and some others. But I do kinda feel like if Ben Johnson says “I really want to come coach Maye and here’s my plan” and it blows them away, they’d certainly consider that.
The only time Kraft has hired someone he was unfamiliar with was Pete. If I had money, I’d put it on Vrabel because he knows and likes Vrabel. And Vrabel has been successful elsewhere. And he’d be stealing him from the Jets.

Right now he’s the “de facto” GM but if a Johnson or Vrabel demand their own guy then they can hire a true GM over him and relegate Wolf to being more of an assistant in the way he was to Belichick

I actually really dont mind keeping Wolf for the moment. If you start firing every GM after one bad draft or offseason (and that still is TBD honestly) youre not gonna get very far. Keep him in place
Just as long as they don’t keep the entire FO intact.

Need to shift with whichever coach we hire so philosophies can be matched.

And it will be okay with Kraft too. 'Wolf expected to return' only means a writer who's hardly an intimate of the Krafts expects Eliot Wolf's key card will open the door tomorrow, nothing more than that.

He wasn’t going to do it right after the game. That’s the point. Jerod didn’t fellow the game plan and it’s not like Kraft could fire him during the game. Kraft fired him immediately out of rage.
I think he was, that's why no pin worn, that's why the Kraft statement was ready to go. I think he wanted to change the narrative, until he fired Mayo all the talk would be negative and how bad everything is. I think it was planned, maybe we will find out from reports later. I think Mayo knew it was likely happening, and I think Kraft knew he knew.
Just glad it is done.
He just wasn't a good head coach and had little chance of becoming one without years more of NFL caching experience.

No, just No to

Exactly. And if Wolf has issues with that, he’s welcome to look elsewhere.

Makes sense.

There were rumours last season Jonathon was being more involved and lets be honest Robert isn't going to be around forever.

Makes sense that he is going to become more and more involved each year until an official handover probably happens.

Vrabel won with Ryan Tannehill as his QB. If whoever our GM is can retool the offense, imagine what he'll do with Maye.

Yeah I am sure they’ll make tweaks. I am pretty sure they would have done so anyway with several guys having expiring deals.

As for the firing...
