Assuming this weekend's game at Buffalo will be a disaster, I have to wonder what the fans will be like back at Gillette for the final 2 weeks. Will we see any "Fire Mayo" signs? Any "Fire Mayo" chants? Certainly some chances to send a message to the Krafts and get petty in a way that New Englanders know how to do. I wanna see some "You said it not me" signs, some "Burn some cash" signs, some "I should not have said that" signs.

Both games will be sparsely attended and I doubt you'll see many signs.

It’d be great if malcontent fans bought up the tickets for cheap on the secondary market (and they will probably be dirt cheap) just to go there to complain and start “Fire Mayo” chants

Diana now walking back her “Mayo is safe” report from last weekend:

The linked podcast from The Athletic also has her saying that he needs to “finish strong” but also that the Krafts would be hesitant to make a change “unless they think they’ve got a better option”. To me, this is just screaming “Finish strong or else we’re hiring Vrabel.”

The only player I am sure will play his ass off no matter what is the QB. There are plenty of players fighting for a job here or elsewhere who should play at maximum effort but given they are humans, we know how that goes.

I read this as as long as we don’t get blown out by make than 2 scores a game the last 3 games we will give Mayo more Coaching classes thru LinkedIn.

This Russini woman keeps reporting stuff I don't want to hear. It's irritating. What's the online version of "shut up and make me a sandwich"?

If Maye thinks Jerod sucks he could single-handedly get him fired by just not playing very hard the last 3 weeks

Some walk back from Russini on last weekend’s report. I’ll take it!

Oh, I guarantee Maye thinks Jerod sucks. But I'd fear doing that would just get AVP fired. I think our best chance is for the defense to get steamrolled these last three games as Mayo is a purported "defensive specialist." The crucial test will be the last game with Beefalo resting starters. Losing that one convincingly MIGHT open the door for Mayo's exit.

One random thing that annoys me.
Ever since Mayo mentioned the recognition to the player that helps his teammate get up off the turf the most in a game, I notice it being done all the time.

Every time I see it, I cringe and even feel embarrassed for the players.
Seems like something a high school coach would do. Just seems so weird to see multiple players run over to help a guy up.
Maybe get back to the huddle, you only have so much time between plays!

I just don't get what this accomplishes at an NFL level, and it is starting to drive me nuts in games.
Is this how he instills culture? Oy Vey! Seems so amateurish.

Every time I see this it somehow in my mind reinforces the idea Mayo is not ready for this job.

Probably a stupid thing to be annoyed by and maybe it's just me LOL.

It is cringey. The recognition should go to the player who knocks the most opposing players down.

Meritocracy? Why would you think merit has anything to do with getting a job? It's all about who you know and how you make people feel.

Fortune 100 employee speaking from experience

I too have worked for several large corporations. "How you make people feel" was often influenced by DEI, and yes, comfort and contacts often trumped merrit.

I agree that Bob made the most comfortable choice for himself, but he also apparently made the wrong choice, and would have been better served hiring a more qualified candidate.

You’re probably right about Maye. I wouldn’t want our guy to have that mindset, anyway.

I don’t think it’ll come down to the final week and if Buffalo rests anyone or not. If NE looks like crap this weekend and again vs LA at home, and the fans are in an uproar at that point, I think the Krafts will probably have made their minds up by then and will probably be talking to Vrabel already before he gets snatched up by another team.

Saw this in a #postpulpitmailbag."

One potential pairing that would interest me: Brian Flores as head coach with Josh McCown as offensive coordinator. McCown works with Flores in Minnesota under Kevin O’Connell as the Vikings quarterback coach. He also coached Maye back in High School."

This would be my preferred pairing.

I wouldn’t mind that - I think Flores is underrated and is probably the “true” BB successor - but I feel like Kraft would avoid Flores due to his ongoing NFL lawsuit.

"Feel comfortable and seemed competent"? It's sounds like you tacitly agree withThelonious. You're certainly not describing a meritocracy.
The NFL is full of nepotism hires at HC. Steve Belichick was one. Just because the guy who got his boss to like him enough to take a chance is black doesn’t make it a DEI hire.

I agree. My point is that DEI policies/culture can influence and do influence decisions. Nothing more or less. It's entirely possible that Kraft would've made the same decision if Mayo were white.

Would love to play devils advocate.. so I’ll start off by saying one year isn’t long enough. It’s a horrible look on the organization AND especially on King Kraft. The injuries to Andrews Bently and Barimore were pretty big for a team that wasn’t very good to start off with. The oline play was inexcusable. Scott peters and Rob Kugler fired. If van pelt is fired , then obviously there will be a complete offensive overhaul. Probly meaning house is cleaned. On the defensive side Covington looks more shell shocked than Mayo does at times !! Can someone tell me what Hightower has done? Going out on a limb here… just cause you can teach something , doesn’t mean you can do it ( alla Belichick) … and adversely just because you can do it , doesn’t mean you can teach it ( alla Hightower) … our linebackers were atrocious this year. Almost seemed like every play out of position. Or are they all so slow ?? It does seem to me as well that having this big of a coaching staff is redundant. There’s almost assistants to the assistants. Cut it back. Mayo had to learn to delegate better. There are 4 strength and conditioning coaches … and we had all these injuries ? If you **** can Mayo, all of these spots will need to be filled. A combination of mish mash from across the league or unknowns. I’d stick with the 70% of the staff. Tinker , fire, upgrade. Draft two tackles high, bring in a better oline coach. Bring in veteran free agents on the defensive side of the ball , especially linebackers. Solidify the team with some high character veteran guys. Maye is gonna be a good one. Absolutely all effort needs to be spent on his posse of protection. This team is not ready for any kind of playoff talk. We years away. Build it right. Let’s not start firing coaches every 3-4 weeks … let’s not become the Jets

I’m going to the last game . Was going to bring a Fire Mayo sign… but talked myself out of it
