The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Bill poisoned his rep on his own....
Sub .500 record w/o Brady, one playoff win, no division titles....could just hire Jeff Fisher
Yeah except for the all time record for playoff wins and championships.

College football more than anything is about getting talent. It doesn't matter if your DBs are well coached and play proper technique when they run 4.6 40s and they're covering guys who run 4.3 and the QB has plenty of time because his OL are all 5 star recruits and your DL are all 3 star recruits. He's gotta be able to recruit or UNC boosters have to be able to shell out enough $$$ to get talent otherwise that program isn't gonna be able to compete against top tier programs.
Yup - it's not like the NFL where there are only 32 teams with mechanisms to more or less evenly distribute talent (draft, salary cap, similar financial power). There are many dozens of teams in college with vastly different resources and so the disparity between talent across those teams is massive. No amount of coaching would bridge that level of talent gap.

He is absolutely going to have to change his style. These aren’t pros under contract. Make a kid unhappy and he’ll just up and quit on the team. It is happening all over the NCAA.

BOB benched Castellanos left month. Kid left the team the next day and is now on his way to Tallahassee.
Like Larry Bird.

Bob Knight was never the same.

BC's next game vs UNC is in 2028 after Bill's contract ends. Too bad...

What? How so?
He joined UNC with the condition that his son be name heir apparent.

That means he is prioritizing his family over his own personal ambitions of being an NFL HC.

After he named Matt Patricia his OC and made his son joint DC with Mayo, NE fans rightly questioned whether Belichick was prioritizing winning or helping family and friends.

This move to a low level college system on the promise his son will be the next HC is proof he gave up on winning at all costs.

I don't fault Belichick in his decision but it only furthers proves that Kraft was 100% right for letting him go.

He’ll probably have some good initial success but I don’t see this going well. Probably fired in 3 years
His contract is up in 3 years anyway.

I don’t think that was the case last few years though. We couldn’t get anything out of Nelly and Jonnu and both produced elsewhere.
Agree. Was referring more to position versatility.

I hope Bill does well at UNJC ... a different challenge ... possibly accomplishment in his life.
I wonder if part of his reasoning is to carve out some time with Jordon.
Either way ... regardless of the reason ... he loves to teach and coach ... and now he will.

Is this confirmed? Genuine question.

This is what I responded to:
Right and “they” was referring to your complaint about 3rd string players with egos being unhappy.

Ha ha yeah…. Sure…. Because 17 and 18 year olds are always thinking about the future and not the here and now….

If Belichick wants to be successful, he is going to have to abandon the culture of misery he fostered in New England. It just won’t stand with teenagers who have countless options to go elsewhere pretty much whenever they want.
Lots of very negative opinions of young folks coming out. But I think they’re just projections of your prejudices more than an accurate perception of reality. There are still plenty of kids who respect values like frugality and foresight. Remember the tight end we had that didn’t even spend his salary, just living off endorsement income? I think there are plenty of kids will listen to their parents, or advisors, and won’t just go for the biggest bling right away. But you’ve got your opinion, I’ve got mine. In a few months we will see what kind of a recruiting class BB can assemble. Maybe sooner as we see how the transfer portal activity shapes up. The real payoffs will be on the field performance over the next two years, and the 2026 NFL draft results for Bill’s college athletes. I’m betting there will be a record high number of Tar Heels drafted in 2026. Would you take that bet?

All going to UNC does is put his legacy at further risk. He better have great success there.
So many people running scared. That never makes anyone great.

Stop projecting your own ignorance. My statements on the current state of college football are 100% accurate in the new reality which college football has become.
There are still plenty of kids who respect values like frugality and foresight. Remember the tight end we had that didn’t even spend his salary, just living off endorsement income?
Yeah I remember him. He was so mentally rundown from Bill Belichick's routine that he retired. Then he returned to football the very next year, but only because he had the opportunity to play elsewhere.

Was that example supposed to prove your point? Because it did precisely the opposite.

If the university/boosters spend, they will be able to recruit. If they don't spend, they won't be able to recruit.

Yup.
