The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

College football more than anything is about getting talent. It doesn't matter if your DBs are well coached and play proper technique when they run 4.6 40s and they're covering guys who run 4.3 and the QB has plenty of time because his OL are all 5 star recruits and your DL are all 3 star recruits. He's gotta be able to recruit or UNC boosters have to be able to shell out enough $$$ to get talent otherwise that program isn't gonna be able to compete against top tier programs.

He’ll probably have some good initial success but I don’t see this going well. Probably fired in 3 years
Football is football, the rules change the game stays the same. Carolina will do fine.

How do you handle the kid who thinks they're an NFL level talent but is languishing on Bill's depth chart? The kid who's had their ass kissed at every level since pop warner? Now, suddenly, they get to Bill's No Nonsense Football U and they are buried.
Why would you be concerned if your system is not best for the guy who can’t get in the field and had an attitude about it?
You are concerned with guys who overrate them selves and then don’t earn playing time?
I’d say a system they are happy in is the one that needs to be fixed.

This is nonsense. All football is about talent and execution... it takes both.

I agree 100%. But those minority of families aren't the problem, it's the other whatever percentage of families want the kid to take the bag of loot and get on the hype train. When the kid doesn't pan out and is sitting 3rd on the depth chart, those families will be having their kid "take their talents to Miami" to coin a phrase and go in the portal. They'll be blaming Bill for misusing their kid or not understanding them, the usual excuses, instead of having them cowboy up and take Bill's medicine.
Are you suggesting the kid who is 3rd on the depth chart should play instead of the players who are better than him?
How is this specific to belichick? Every team has players who are 3rd on the depth chart.

Some players want to be coached tough, want structure. Those players will flock to NC.

Most players want to be coached up.
Top athletes are about working hard and maximizing their talent.
This idea that they are rappers who want to be lazy and sucked up to is a fantasy world. They would be where they are without hard work, commitment and a desire to improve.

.426 post Brady and well deserved especially from his GM decisions. Interesting that his genius offensive hires of MP/JJ are out of the NFL and his first round QB pick left to their “coaching” is now a shell of what he was as a rookie in NE.
As usual you're a Fraud

The second part of your comment describes Deion Sanders Colorado team in a nutshell. There's zero accountability on that team.

The Dolphins fired defensive coordinator Vic Fangio because he was coaching the players too hard and Mike McDaniels is a soft player's coach. Before that the Dolphins made Brian Flores fire Chad O'Shea because the offensive players were complaining to the owner the offense was too tough... then they fired Flores because he was a hard ass. Not surprisingly the Dolphins are softer than Charmin toilet paper.

When you let the lunatics run the asylum you can have to most talent in college or the pros and they'll never reach their potential. The 2024 Patriots are having fun, they have a cool young coach to talk to... now they can't determine which way the wind is blowing on a coin toss before overtime, they miss blocks/tackles, are confused in coverages... but they're having fun.

All going to UNC does is put his legacy at further risk. He better have great success there.
If it doesn't work people will just say he wasn't made for college. If anything this is a soft landing spot where he can't do much damage.

It's going to be fascinating to see how Bill manages this as it goes both ways.

For every player that is not happy with their situation/team, the program will also message (see how BOB handled Castellanos) to the player they don't want them anymore (level of play, roster decision as they are smaller now, etc).

Bill is the greatest "maximize the roster" GM a the NFL level who has ever lived. Remains to be seen if he can do it at the D-1 level but i'm not betting against him.
I agree it will be interesting to watch.

I think that is what Bill wants to do.

There's plenty of good/great athletes in college who are not at the top of the depth chart because they haven't connected the dots. Bill's gotta recruit more than just "Bill type guys".

This is nonsense. All football is about talent and execution... it takes both.
The difference is that everyone in the NFL is at at least a minimum standard. Even the worst players still have high end measurables.

In college the gap in talent can be so big that execution doesn't mean as much. It's why you see such high scoring games. When a DB can't keep up with the WR no matter what, their form becomes less relevant. A school like Georgie and Alabama can go down to back up and third string QB's and still have an NFL caliber guy. That will not be true for UNC.

The landscape in the NFL is different than college. The talent disparity between the Patriots and 49ers for example aren't the same as the talent disparity between OSU and UNC.

I don’t think that was the case last few years though. We couldn’t get anything out of Nelly and Jonnu and both produced elsewhere.

Did Kraft really poison BBs rep in the NFL to the point where BB needs to win in the NCAA?

Edelman claims that BB and Kraft don't get along anymore. Rumor is that Kraft told Falcons owner Arthur Blank and others not to trust BB.
Bill poisoned his rep on his own....
Sub .500 record w/o Brady, one playoff win, no division titles....could just hire Jeff Fisher

Or even better... a bum with no coaching experience.

It's more than a rumor. It's the truth.
Thank you for saying that. I wrote the same thing yesterday and was told that it wasn’t Kraft and Arthur Blank would never listen to Kraft . I remember reading an article about it at the time. I really despise Kraft and am hoping he gives up the team soon !!!

Why is belichick any different than anyone else? Why would third string players be any different there than at any other school.
Every coach recruits the kind of players he wants in his system.
You are making up a thing that doesn’t exist.

I think that is what Bill wants to do
You think he wants to create a program where he prioritizes that guys who are third on the depth chart and can’t get on the field are happy? Why?
