The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Wasn’t there a significant improvement in Colorado’s recruiting success after Coach Sanders joined their program? Seems I recall hearing that somewhere.
Yes and Deion has done it without even visiting a recruits home, kids just want to go play there, especially the play makers.

Tom E. Curran's Patriots Talk Podcast

I guess I was wrong that Bill would coach at UNC (or any college program). I just didn't think this was a good fit, for all the reasons that Brady, Jules, and Gronk outlined, jokingly, on Sunday. I really think he's going to find it an uphill battle to recruit top shelf, high end players who, for a lack of a better phrase, don't have the stomach to do what it takes to put up with him and all that he demands.

Tom Curran makes a very good case as to why.

Football's given him a lot... he is indebted to football and would want to give back. He sees a broken college system that he can provide a blueprint to running and be a trailblazer for the next generation of college football to make the NFL better... if he had all that vision I believe he would say this is a good thing. (putting himself in Bill's shoe's) I don't care if I make 5m, I don't care if I make 15m. I'd like to have Steve here, I'd like to work with Matt.... and I'd like to see if we can get thing's moving in an organized direction in what is the wild wild west.

This does make sense, that if he can fix the NCAA, and all that he knows is wrong with the culture of it, that it makes the NFL batter as a product as a whole. IF, huge if, he could do that, he'd be forever thought of as the guy who saved modern football from the mess the current NIL situation has created.

If anyone could do it, it would take someone with the cache of Bill Belichick to bring everyone to heel. I just don't think he can.

Suppose Saban joins him?

This is what Bill is up against.

Florida State could be one
For most of the season I thought they were going to fire their coach. Can you imagine Deion coaching Florida State and the recruiting he could do?

I wonder if BB is double dipping by becoming a coach at the college level and making Bob Kraft pay the full amount of his remaining contract.

At the time they 'mutually parted ways' it was widely reported Belichick's contract ran through 2024. If there was no upfront settlement of the contract when he left and he's still being paid under its original terms that's about to end

And who had the opportunity to draft a different QB? He knew Brady wasn't sticking around. Stuck with Stidham and washed Cam. Mac and Zappe both crap.
2014 Jimmy was next in line until Kraft told BB to trade him.

2020 QBs worth drafting were gone after round 2.
2019 QBs suck
2018 QBs you had Jackson at 32, but is he going to upset Brady again.
2017 Mahomes and Watson
2016 BB drafted Jocoby on the advice of Parcells.

The scary thing for me is who's going to want this job when the GOAT got such a short leash and his replacement will get a much shorter one. Why would a good experienced coach line up for this kind of treatment.
That’s why I’m not super crazy about firing Mayo after one year even if I was never totally onboard with his hiring, I see no way Ben Johnson is walking through that door if he see’s Bill getting fired and the next coach getting one year with this disaster roster. He could go on a better team or he could go on a rebuilding team where he calls the shots and will get a 3 year minimum.
Shannahan was the hot coaching candidate of 7 years ago. He went to a team that had just fired first year coaches in back-to-back years.

Demeco Ryans was a highly sought-after coaching candidate a couple of years ago. He chose a team that had just fired first year coaches in... wait for it... back-to-back years.

If you know you're good, how quickly a team canned the bozo that was warming your seat is of no relevance in choosing your destination.

Agreed. I think the financial obligations between NE and Belichick are over.

But the parents could play a huge roll in driving their kids to BBs door.
I agree 100%. But those minority of families aren't the problem, it's the other whatever percentage of families want the kid to take the bag of loot and get on the hype train. When the kid doesn't pan out and is sitting 3rd on the depth chart, those families will be having their kid "take their talents to Miami" to coin a phrase and go in the portal. They'll be blaming Bill for misusing their kid or not understanding them, the usual excuses, instead of having them cowboy up and take Bill's medicine.

All going to UNC does is put his legacy at further risk. He better have great success there.

He is absolutely going to have to change his style. These aren’t pros under contract. Make a kid unhappy and he’ll just up and quit on the team. It is happening all over the NCAA.

BOB benched Castellanos left month. Kid left the team the next day and is now on his way to Tallahassee.

Thec"lap dog" would be a great addition to any football staff anywhere at any level.
Lol. Lombardi is a clown.

He is so great that’s why he hasn’t got a job in the NFL in 8 years.

At this point in his life Lombardi is just Bill’s mouthpiece saying the most ridiculous thing on television or radio to defend his master.

His girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, expressed her own glee over her beau’s new job as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels (as per the media). I hope she does not turn out to be a spanner in the works being at his side amongst girls not much younger than she is. Just saying.
Why would you care?

Both had no QB either.

Virtually everyone who has played for belichick including 10+ year veterans credit him for teaching them about football and making them better players.
College players who want an NFL career will value that more than they will want to quit because doing the right way is hard.
Athletes value hard work and discipline. Fans don’t understand that.

How do you handle the kid who thinks they're an NFL level talent but is languishing on Bill's depth chart? The kid who's had their ass kissed at every level since pop warner? Now, suddenly, they get to Bill's No Nonsense Football U and they are buried.

It's going to be fascinating to see how Bill manages this as it goes both ways.

For every player that is not happy with their situation/team, the program will also message (see how BOB handled Castellanos) to the player they don't want them anymore (level of play, roster decision as they are smaller now, etc).

Bill is the greatest "maximize the roster" GM a the NFL level who has ever lived. Remains to be seen if he can do it at the D-1 level but i'm not betting against him.
