Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

I can get on board with the idea of changing coaches, but only if the coach they are going to hire is going to get a minimum of 5 years. And that coach cannot pick an offensive coordinator who will go back to the Erhardt Perkins offense. What I won’t get on board with is the fan driven idea of changing coaches every 6 months. Franchises must have stability, and a franchise that lets the fans drive their choices are the absolute worst franchises, in every sport.

"I still think Jerod Mayo is on really solid ground going into 2025. The question is, how different will it look around him? And I think there are fair questions to ask when it comes to that." - Bert Breer

Sorry folks, RKK isn't going to make any changes this off season with the HC.

We used to say players taken outside the first round take a year or two to develop. Now we expect them to be amazing right away. What changed?

Fan expectations. Fantasy football has made fans believe that they can run any team, and that players are disposable. It’s instant success or get rid of them, they don’t understand that you have to develop players if you want to build a contender.

Losing to the mediocre Colts will help solidify in the Krafts’ minds that Mayo is not the guy. At least not yet.

If they want results gotta hire a proven winner.

Jon Gruden.

Did I just write that?

Unfortunately you did.

I said that three weeks ago and got crushed. NO WAY Gruden wouldn’t be light years better than Mayo.

I’ll go one crazy step further:

Gruden HC and Rex Ryan DC.

This would be entertaining AND 100%, a major upgrade.

If I’m not mistaken, and I might be, the track record of coaches who take long breaks from coaching and then return to a head coach position is not good. Most of these guys get to where they were by being insane workaholics, and after the breaks where they became commentators, or just took a lot of time away from the game, it’s really really hard for them to go back to the work schedule that made them successful. I never liked Gruden, but he did work his ass off to become successful, and I just don’t see him ever going back to that work ethic. I don’t want him.

I’m sure many will volunteer, but somebody shoot me.

Hope Breer is wrong here.

I hope the slope is starting to get slippery

Gruden was screwed over by the league. His is a unique case I think. Motivation wouldn’t be lacking…

There was no world where he was only getting one season. Most everything here has just been wishful thinking of fans hoping for a quick fix. The team is bad and this result wasn't unexpected, Mayo or not. That's what is saving him.

There’s a difference between not having the players to win as opposed to coaching being the reason for 70 percent of the losses.
The fact he keeps saying he is learning on the job really upsets me. You don’t tab a HC who is learning how to be a coach,
Being a head coach used to mean something.

Okay here's the thing though.... THEY DON'T HAVE THE PLAYERS TO WIN.

This is one of if not the least talented roster in the NFL. You would be hard pressed to find an exec in the league who would challenge that statement. They have a bad offensive line and as much as I'd love to say it's coaching and someone like Scar would whip them into shape, they are just not NFL caliber players. There's been a talent drain there. The WR's suck and have been a problem for 5 years. You can't even blame current coaching on them. Stevenson clearly is taking a step back, Gibson is a good example of an explosive RB with good field vision. The defense has struggled in the pass game and they spent most of this season with some of their best players from last year injured. And they have an inconsistent kicker.

QB is the only improvement they made and frankly, all it's showing is that while QB was a problem, it wasn't THE problem the last few years. The team just sucks. 2023 was a predictable outcome. 2024 is the same predictable outcome.

There was an expectation that Mayo would be developing as a year one HC. This is sort of the year you take a HC like that. There are no expectations and you aren't losing anything. He was always going to get next year as a result.

But in the process he’s, calling players soft, not coaching on the field during the game. Didn’t understand wind direction, punts on 4th and a short 1 doesn’t go for 2 when we could have a 3 pt lead as a 2 point lead.
We lost by that one point today.
Doesn’t take responsibility for the team issues,
Dismisses people questioning him in any way.
The defense is not just a talent issue, they are in the wrong packages at the wrong times. They are indisciplined in their gap assignments, they over pursue.
They give up third and longs, they have given up fourth downs.
The players have regressed guys that looked good for us no longer do.
Jerod is incredibly conservative he makes Bill look like Nick Sirianni.
What is the man doing to better the Patriots this year or next?
He has made comments then walk them back.
The man is out of his depth and 1 year nor 4 years will prepare him.
In the meantime we have a top QB talent on a rookie contact. Who has his heart broken by the defense, a dropped ball or a O offensive penalty.

Majority of that is coaching.

That's just one of the reasons why I don't want Garrett Bolles. And even if he plays every game and plays well for 2 seasons more, we're back to needing a LT still.
Bolles is 33 next year. If we give him a 3 year contract would he move to RT? And draft a LT in R1? I would also add a Center in R2 or R3 unless Strange can play Center - Strange might be a great Center.

When the coaches are so so so bad that it is ovious to even the most casual fan, there is going to be pushback. That is normal. "Fire Mayo" is trending on X.

If you are not on board with fan driven ideas, what is the option? Keep the coach because you want to spite the fans who are correct? By keeping Mayo you are protecting the franchise from being bad? I understand your point, but when the coach is atrocious, your argument falls over.
