I see it as a take it or leave it thing. He has shown enough talent that you can justify taking the risk at his salary,** but his getting cut so soon is a big enough red flag on its own to justify not doing it.

**They were willing to pay similar amounts to Osborn and Okorafor. . . .
Reportedly he wasn't a scheme fit. As he was drafted under riveria. He got hurt last season I believe? Washington gave up on him far to soon.

I remember Devin McCourty after struggling at corner early in his career was switched to free safety and that worked out.
He was an All-Pro at corner his rookie season. FWIW, I'm still not convinced that the struggles were solely his in 2011 so much as the giant cluster that was the defense that year (Brady and the offense carried that defense to the SB).

In any case, I agree that, yes, some sort of shift in usage might benefit Forbes.

It’s a gamble either way.

If they wait until March they then have to spend a draft pick on that gamble when they have so many other needs.

Claiming him now is a gamble that does not cost a scarce draft pick, just some of Kraft’s $$$

I hate when people say things like “Krafts $$$”. Teams have to spend 89%of their yearly caps over a 4 year period. I guess if you really want to consider that 11% then go ahead. Say what you want, but I don’t see Kraft as the type of person who really is trying to save that 11%. He understands the much greater implications of being successful over being mediocre. Look no further than, the increase of the patriots franchise value from time of purchase until today. It’s by far the best ROI on franchise purchase cost to projected value over that time span.

That’s not how it works. It’s CASH spending that you need to hit 89% of the cap number with. Cash spending is more than cap spending. If you do the math the patriots could be 50 mill under each of the next 3 years and hit the 89%.
Over the past 20 years the patriots are dead last in cash spending.

Agreed there he is pretty small. Hopefully he can bulk up to play at least about 180 where he should be..

So now he's "pretty small'? He must have dropped a lot of weight since this morning when according to you he had 'size' lol

I believe he has everything you're looking for in young CB. Size, speed, ball skills, attitude.

Size meaning he's 6'2 I believe. But you know I come to the forum to get all the expertise from you.

No wonder he looks skinnier, now he's gotten taller. Before he became 6'2" overnight he was listed anywhere from 5'11" to 6'1"

Well.. he is a growing player still so...lol

He is the Tyquan Thornton of cbs. Over 6ft under 150 lbs i was over joyed when the skins took him over Gonzalez

Forbes was claimed by the Rams, given their respective postion in the waiver claims order the Pats FO didn't have any interest.

Guys who have any clue, especially high R1 guys, on a rookie deal, don't get cut without a story. I'd want to investigate but I'd certainly be interested if I had interest in the player in 2023.

Or traded quickly.

The Saints drafted Brandon Cooks and traded him to the Pats, who also traded him.

All on his first contract.

Why did no one keep him long term?
I recall people on here wanting Cooks this off season. And I thought to myself the same thing that you did: If cooks if worth bringing in to help solve our WR problem (even as a supposed quality depth piece), why has he been on so many teams throughout his career. I could never understand anyone wanting him on the Patriots.

I recall that he looked like a shutdown CB in his rookie season and then he just fell apart. It was a day/night difference. However, it worked out for him and the team when he successfully made the transition to FS.
