Defense is the biggest disappointment in 2024...

How you ask?
He nicknamed Kraft's junk "Thunder" and shivved BB while navigating the back stairs at Gillette
A successor clause in a contract goes a long way..

Agreed. As you saw me post look at the bills. Try and name 1 all pro on thier defense. They did a total revamping on defense and they amongst the top half of the league on all defensive categories. I've accepted that coaching is failing the defense. The Rams game made it so apparent. But your right pass rush is huge problem!

Right, we’re not going to field a perfect defense, nobody can. But you look to invest in the crucial points and decide what you can afford to mask. Next offseason they will have some options from the looks. Until then Lets see if the newly signed tits mcgee helps out any

No it's just Bill who is well below .500 without Brady and hired two incompetent buddies who failed at offense everywhere and cratered his team as a result Nobody else.

Keep defending the wall though it's comical!
I use to think that: but now I'm not so sure especially with these Three Teams... Dallas - Jacksonville and the NY Giants. Jerry Jones is capable of anything: Jacksonville just needs a Good HC: and he's a folk hero with the NY Giants.

I've noted the extreme lack of discipline on D that has been the #1 reason for such obvious regression.
And that is 90% on the coaching. (players have to take some accountability too, but it starts at leadership)
This millennial "players coach" crap is absolutely a recipe for disaster - and its proven with the evidence on the field.
If Mayo wants to call them soft, then how about YOU don't be soft on expectations, demanding excellence, and enforcing all the little things that BB did to make average players into a great team (while jeopardizing your "likability" in the process)
Mayo cares about being friendly and liked by all his players - that's the millennial parenting fallacy which has also created this generation of selfish entitled weaklings. Yes, I'll say it.

The depth has been what's hurting us... go figure in camp we had - judon, Barmore, Bentley, peppers, Dugger, Tavai, gonzo. Pretty good dam defense.. now we have guys that really should be on the PS playing starting roles. Had they been getting better coaching they'd fare better. Maye needs all the help he can get

Talk about wanting to be liked: Mayo threw Polk under the Bus for last game. BB Never did that even though he could have. Seems like Mayo learned Nothing from BB.

Mayos wife teaches him every night..

Addendum 7:

A) Always refer to principal owner Robert Kraft as either Mr. Kraft or "Thunder" (preferably "Thunder" around women).
B) When discussing Gillette Stadium's inland light house with tiny bell, always refer to said monument as "Big Bob".
C) Under no circumstances will you ever refer to the many booster seats located in and around team facilities.

Last years defense was overall top 10 based on a top 5 run defense. Losing Barmore and Bentley, Peppers, and perhaps Guy has hurt them significantly against the run.

They were #15 last year against the pass, without Gonzalez or Judon for the most part, but they were bottom 10 creating turnovers and below average in sacks, pressures, and hits. My apologies here for not looking up their numbers from last year in those metrics but that’s what I recall from the last time I checked turnovers, etc. They have not improved even with Gonzalez coming back, it’s not surprising when you factor in the biggest loss of all to their defense (BB).

This is why, if Campbell’s arm length is proven to be an issue or alternatively if his arm length is fine but he is gone by the time the Pats are on the clock (I am assuming that Hunter will go #1 and McMillen will also be gone, assuming their measurables are good) and if a suitable haul for their pick is not offered, I’d be looking hard at someone who can rush the passer well or nail down the other CB slot before going for a different WR or OT. I might also be tempted by Jeanty if he could be at the Barkley level of potential impact for their offense.

They need high end talent in just about every position, guys who can wreck a game for their opponent. I see Hunter and Tet in that light, maybe Graham or (if recovered) Will Johnson also.

Other guys I like but don’t know if they can be at the game wrecker level are Scourton and Pearce at Edge, Grant, Nolen, and Walker at DT, Egbuka, Bond, and Restrepo at WR, Loveland and Warren at TE, Banks, and Simmons, and Ersery at OT.

During the offseason, online reports and posts (not just on this forum) often described the Patriots defense as "elite" and/or "championship quality". I questioned that and would receive the horns so to speak. Now I shake my head...

Thinking back on it myself.. mayo should have gone ahead and continued with the DC interviews he was offered in on. It would have given in invaluable experience. I thought for sure Vrabel would had been hired. I didn't see mayo as HC I thought if anything he'd be DC under Vrabel..

A fully intact patriots Defense meaning healthy Barmore, judon still here, gonzo, peppers, godddy..Bentley, Tavai, Jones bros. Dugger.. they could possibly be top 10ish..however the way they are being coached has given me serious doubts

This was an easy call for me during the offseason for two reasons: coaching and lack of talent. Whether or not Barmore and Bentley played, the defense was still going to take a nose dive because of Mayo. The LB’s have been criticized for years and that coach was none other than Jerod Mayo. What makes you think he could put together game plans stopping what opposing offenses do best and help disguise the weaknesses the defense clearly has? Appointing Covington was another blunder on Mayo.

That’s like promoting Troy Brown to be the new offensive coordinator after he’s been criticized for years for all the WR’s duds we’ve seen.

Damn right it does.

The guys we have leading the pack are not doing enough to put players into positions to win. It's basic fare of line them up and go.

God I miss the "do your job" level of accountability.
I do too!!! Alot I don't miss.. but as far as coaching and accountability there is no one even close! It obvious things that are concerning.. your secondary getting lit up... we'll just keep our best CB where he is.. your D line getting run on we'll just keep playing the same gaps and techniques.. terrible game by covington his worst if the season IMO.
