Mayo might understand the Xs and Os from his playing days, but being a strategic thinker and knowing how best to apply the Xs and Os is different. For example, Zo on the radio understands the Xs and Os, but has no idea why certain formations are used in certain situations - Zo is not a strategic thinker. If you have not noticed, most coaches are not ex-players. Why is that? Because being a strategic thinker is more important to coaching than having played the game.

The Pats roster stinks, I agree, but I think we are all surprised to find out the coaching is worse than the roster.
That's a possibility. There are so many things that transpire behind the seens that we don't know about. It happens with every coaching staff in the league. Having the talent to vastly helps a coaching staff in the NFL. I can recall ty law saying there were plenty of times Romeo and Bill put together a game plan and once it wasn't working they went to the sidelines and adjusted. Where are those guys? Who's the Dawgs to tell Mayo or covington look this isn't working. I think the guy is peppers. He's the voice the enforcer on defense they are sorely lacking. Gonzo isn't that vocal guy.. Barmore possibly. But players need to be able to also make coaches accountable for the positions they put them in.

I'm over this rookie WR class just red shirt them the rest of season.
Jaheim Bell is getting some snaps very athletic player former RB he could be a player next year. We can call this the wasted: hope they all learn year. Polk - Baker and Bell Needs to work their @sses off over the Offseason: their NFL futures depends on it.

There is a big difference between X’s and O’s as a player or coach
Devising a game plan and tweaking it in game to counter the other teams tweaks is a whole different ball game
Guys like BB, McVay and Shannahan are elite. They have that special mind
X’s and O’s are the end result of their elaborate game plans
Being able to design those game plans seperate’s the men from the boys
Mayo doesn't even understand the significance of wind direction. In-game adjustments are beyond him, and always will be.

You are grasping at straws

C'mon even you know that: they get another year. I know our overall Returns are poor in 2024 but the most Important one was a Hit.

Yup 1 great one, and 6 bad ones. Give the 6 bad ones another year - wooooo Hooooo.

The Goal was getting Three or Four Good players from this past Draft. Wolf screwed the pooch if he messes up 2025 he will be gone.

Wolf is banking on Polk - Wallace and Robinson in 2025... thank goodness for FA.

Did they really need a player out there to tell them that leaving Kupp and Nacua wide open or that maybe the best CB should be shadowing either one of those guys or that they're picking apart their soft zone coverage?

Apparently Mayo thought the Pats controlled the game when the Rams scored 4 TD's in a row.

We need to retool the trenches in the offseason, period. Both lines, and even LB's on D.
Guys to keep:
OL - Brown, Onwenu, (backups - Wallace, Robinson, Sow [Andrews likely done])
NEED - LT, LG, C, RT (assume Strange is gone)
DL - White, Barmore, Jennings, Ximines (backups - Ngakoue, Roy, Pharms)
NEED - DE, DT (replace Wise & Godchaux, ADD rookie blue-chip pass rusher DE)
LB - Bentley, Elliss, (backups - Tavai, Mathis)
NEED - WLB (purge all the Taki's, Wilsons, Jacobs, get a game-changing cover LB - turn Dugger + 20lbs into this)
What about free safety ?
Jonathan Jones is done - we need CB2

WR 1,WR2 , WR3 are needed.

I think we should get a WR1 in FA and draft a wr 2 in draft . I would be okay with just keeping 2 from Douglas, Boutte and Bourne. Pop is disappointing this season. Only 1 from Polk and baker will be on team next year. I guess the next 6 games should be audition for baker to show if he is worth investing or cutting at end of season.

What happened to player development? Unless the guy's some historically bad player or has some massive off the field issues no one cuts a rookie after his first year. That's ridiculous. I mean, maybe they put him on the PS to start next year if he really shows no signs of improvement but an outright cut? No way.

Agreed and that I believe it the approach the teams taking with polk.. he has ability, but being a rookie and as he said himself putting pressure on himself personally can be overwhelming. I say get him some easy passes or end around to get him involved in the offseason it would do wonders for him physiological

The average WRs patriots draft bust have stuck around for average of 3.5 seasons. So polk isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Not really. They will get 2 wide receivers at minimum from free agency and draft next season. So Polk really does not have leeway. He and baker both could get cut if they underperform.

Boutte is a nice deep threat and solid receivee for Wr3. Douglas is shift and Bourne is a good release valve and should become better as season progresses. So if Boutte or Baker cannot even elevate to Bourne level then they are gone. polk would probably go unclaimed and come back via waivers to PS. Why will anybody invest in Polk when we have already invested a year and he seems useless.

How do you put on PS without cutting him ?

Yes! They needed a player telling the DC that failed to make any adjustments to CHANGE UP THE COVERAGE!!!! The coach isn't doing it so someone has too. Even marco wilson knows this.

A "cut" with the intention of putting him on the PS isn't the same as a cut like they just did with Thornton.
