and this is funny

Yes Mayo we were really in control all game. Mayo sounds like that idiot Lowe after the Refs warned Him Twice before throwing the flag on him lining up Offsides. Such a momentum changer we lost control of the game right there.

Yes it was a very bad press conference for Mayo. He seemed out of touch.

Us Losing Out is going to be a blessing mark my Words. We'll be in position to get a the Best WR's in the FA and the Draft and hopefully a better HC. Mayo doesn't deserve Drake Maye.

I agree, but Maye does look like he is getting better which normally is a credit to the offensive coaching staff.

Maye is good in spite of them.

The offensive coaching staff aren’t world beaters but they are fine. Maye is getting better every game and i think AVP is getting better at calling plays. He called a good game yesterday. First time in a while that it looked like a normal offense.

They need playmakers at the skill positions. Right now it’s hard to tell if AVP scheme is really meh or if it’s simply limited by our personnel.

I am much more concerned by Covington. Covington should get fired at the end of the year. Like I said in the game thread, either Mayo takes control of the defense full time or if he wants to keep his CEO role then they need to have an experienced DC in there.

Remember when the defense could get a turnover especially when we needed one? That was cool.
The good old days

Maye is the only reason they are in these games. But they can sit him for the rest of the season, fine with me. Then bring him back when they have a real offensive line.
At this stage let him play. He’s not getting hurt This ain’t 1985

What if a new HC wants to bring his own OC? I don't hate on AVP like most, but if Ben Johnson wants to bring his own guy I'll go clean AVP's office myself.
If I were the Krafts, I would have a rigorously honest and private conversation with Drake Maye before the end of the season, the sole purpose for which would be to determine which coach - TC, AVP, whoever - has actually been of the most use to him in his development. I do not think this is the sort of conversation one could usefully have with most 22-year-olds, but I think Drake's really remarkable honesty and purposefulness make it a workable approach in his case. I would place very significant weight on his response as I decided what changes if any to make. If he credits primarily AVP and expresses a wish to continue with AVP as his mentor, I would, given what I regard as AVP's limitations as OC/play caller, offer AVP essentially the QB coach position, which he can choose to accept or not. If it is TC or somebody else whom Drake cites as most valuable to him, I would hire/retain that person as QB coach. I would then - asap - begin work to to secure the services of a more skilled, cutting-edge and experienced OC. We may have something valuable building here, and there is no need to be so prissy and squeamish about putting in place a coaching/GM team worthy of Drake's and eventually the team's potential.

I won't rehash my take on Mayo, which is basically simply that his hire was a mistake, that the hiring process was a joke, and that the Krafts should set aside their irrelevant personal affection for him and get an experienced, likely offensive-oriented, replacement HC.

I would fire Wolfe immediately.

Seems like Lowe was influenced by the awful positioning from
Jordan on the illegal formation penalty

So he threw an interception in a lost season.
Experience gained. His development is proceeding at a good pace
I'm curious what happened on that play. The pass wasn't anywhere near Douglas and he wasn't even looking for it.

Maye does seem to be improving but I'm still concerned about the way he runs. He needs to protect himself more and avoid the hits, not take them on.

I see. Give the young rookie QB the decision on which coach he wants. Maybe the Krafts could ask the ST guys, the WRs and the DL who they want too. That would be great.

At some point we need to resign ourselves to the fact that Jerod Mayo is the Pats HC and I doubt that he's going anywhere anytime soon. They seem to be getting a little better.

This game was a talent discrepancy game, simple as that.
All the games are. The draft failures by Bill are still haunting us. Thornton is the latest example.

I wonder if St Louis did something defensively yo limit Maye running. In prior Games we saw may escape the pass rush and get some pretty good gains with his feet. Today that seemed very limited. I wonder if they had a spy on him
Yeah, they left more guys open for him to throw to. That's basically it, there coverage was bad so he didn't need to run since he could just throw.
He had some great streaks throwing the ball. 10 for 13 with 2 drops and 1 missed jump ball to start the game
I had him 8 for 9 in the 4th quarter before the sack and interception.
On the drive they kicked the field goal in the 4th Maye was 5 for 5 on the drive, a drive that ended with 2 running plays after Maye completed a 6-yard pass on 1st down. If just passed the ball on 1 of those running plays they are not kicking the field goal, at least at that point.
AVP needs to learn they can't pick up 3rd and 1 running into the line at any high % success rate. Use Maye's running ability to roll out and run/pass options.

4th quarter stats before the sack and pick:
Maye: 8 for 9, 97 yards 1 TD and 1 rush for 4 yards
Maye run: 1 attempt for 4 yards
Non Maye Rushing: 9 Attempts for 17 yards for 1.88 per carry.

The first time Kupp got free, I figured it was blown coverage. But that second time, single coverage overage over the top with no deep help? What were they thinking leaving the CB on an island like that?

Fast forward to McMillan & Higgins on the outside with Douglas & Boutte as WR3/WR4 & two OL signed in FA. Next year should be one of the more anticipated pats seasons in awhile.

Defensive coaching remains disappointing though.
I was thinking this today, staying in the top 5 should get you TMac. Sign Higgins, draft TMAc and all set for Maye's rookie contract at wr.

I think you could use the 2nd, extra 3rd and maybe a later pick in 2026 to get back up in the first for a tackle or, if Jeanty falls because he's a rb, I'd do that. Now you have top QB, great receiving group, a top rb or young tackle. Then spend the rest of the draft and money on defense and line. But you are done with skill players for 5 years if you ended up with Jeanty. I doubt that would happen and I'd only do Jeanty if not lineman available and if the trade was not too steep because it is a VERY deep rb class.
20 guys at rb from 2025 draft might make a roster next year. Deepest position in draft, you can get a good one in the 3rd. Jeanty is a great one though.

Offense wins, the top 5 offenses almost always make the playoffs. Start there and "weaponize the offense" and then you have all the money left after Higgins all your picks from round 3 on and then 2026 and 2027 draft to build a better line and defense.

Four picks in the top 80 if we lose out including, possibly, the number one pick in the draft which can be turned into Danny Ainge-esque future draft capital. It has the potential, now that Drake Maye is on board, to be like the 1990s cowboys who had to fill in around QB Troy Aikman and found great players on both sides of the line.

Wolf, as of this writing, has the most estimated cap space - $139M - available in 2025 of any GM.

I do not think Wolf is doing a poor job at all by the way. The rookies look good (I trust Polk will improve) and the in-season moves look fine to me given that this team has so little to deal. (The Peppers, Bentley, Wallace, Strange, Andrews etc absence are not his fault.)

Douglas ran the route but wasn't looking for the ball as he crossed the middle which he should have been doing knowing the Rams were going to blitz. That's both on him and the coaching. Situational football 101.

1st paragraph: Not what I suggested, of course. If you can't argue the point honestly, why bother to comment at all?

2nd paragraph: Explain why - precisely - we must "resign ourselves" to the present situation.. Because "that's how it's done"? What nonsense. Because the Krafts are unwilling to consider they might have made a mistake and are too timid or besotted to say so? Is that really a valid argument? The usual argument is that Maye would somehow be traumatized or otherwise verklempt that his binky has been taken away. My proposal simply suggests that we ASK him if this is so. Look, there are risks/downsides to my proposal. I'm happy to address them, should you care to offer them. I might even in the end see the error of my ways. But I shouldn't have to argue with myself.
