Kraft allegedly seeking outside QB guru.

I long for the days of keeping everything close to the vest and in-house. The media might have hated it but as a fan I loved it. No one knew exactly what the teams was thinking or what they were going to do. Kraft is becoming a loud mouth and it's very annoying. He loves the sound of his own voice and is coming across as a meddling old man. I am really starting to despise him more and more . He doesn't realize that this could be very detrimental to the team and a huge distraction !
Obviously Mac Jones's fault just like everything else.

I don't think I have mentioned him once, not in this or in any other thread. Give the sarcasm a rest, okay ? lol

I think being cognizant of the need to take care of the development of your rookie QB is only a good thing. That said, the timing is a little strange. You’d think this would be done in the offseason, and I have to assume it WAS. So this story can really only mean that not enough is happening, or it’s not going according to plan in some way.

To me, this says “I want a new OC in 2025, if you’re available now and you’d like an early audition, please give me a call”

If all parties were on the same page to work together, I would be happy to see JMD as OC, AVP QB coach with Mayo delegating the offense as HC.
I like McDaniels as a coordinator. Honestly when it was clear that top candidates had little interest in coming here I would’ve been content with a McDaniels return but most people want the Belichick system retired for good.

Hope this doesn't ruffle too many feathers....and I'm sure someone will feel like the heat is on, which it should be. Rather than Kraft letting go of people, he's going to just be bringing in more. Never hurts really. Just please....don't fck up Drake...

Pats have developed QBs quite well. Brady, Cassell, JG, Hoyer, and Brissett all started in the NFL. Even Stidham. Pretty good for a list of mostly later draft picks over 20 years.
Who is still on the Patriots staff that was involved in developing Brady, Cassell, JG, Hoyer, and Brissett? For that matter, who was responsible for drafting as well as developing them?

There was a time there when the Patriots seemed to have a pretty good business model developing rookie QBs as backups and trading them to other teams. Now it seems the team owner doesn’t entirely trust his coaching staff to develop his own team’s QB.

Cassel was drafted with pick 230 (7th round) in 2005; in 2009 he was traded to the Chiefs with Vrabel for pick 34, after four years with the Pats including starting the entire 2008 season when Brady was injured in the first game, losing the AFC East title on the fourth tiebreaker.

Garoppolo was drafted with pick 62 (2nd round) in 2014; in 2017 he was traded to SF for their second round pick (pick 43) after starting the first two games of the 2016 season before getting injured, when Brady was suspended.

Hoyer was a 2009 UDFA rookie signing; he was cut in 2012 after Ryan Mallett won the backup QB job.

Brissett was drafted with pick 91 (2nd round); he was traded to the Colts for Phillip Dorsett who had been pick 29 as a rookie two years earlier.

Ryan Mallett was another rookie QB that the Patriots drafted, got several seasons out of as Brady’s backup, and then traded. Mallett was drafted with pick 74 (third round) in 2011; in 2014 he was traded to the Texans for a conditional sixth round pick, after Garoppolo was drafted and won the backup job.

Well from this report it sounds like ownership feels the Pats did Mac Jones wrong and that's why they want to do whatever it takes to make sure it doesn't happen again. So they don't entirely agree with the logic that "Mac Jones just sucked and always did" that you see a lot around here.

As for those names - sure. I wouldn't say they developed Hoyer, he was a UDFA signing that was never going to start here as long as Brady was around. Ditto for Jacoby. Ditto for other guys like Mallett. Not sure I'd say they "developed" Zappe. They pulled the plug on Stid when they signed Cam. Maybe BB will open up about that move and why they decided Stid wasn't going to be the guy so quickly.
I’d say they developed Hoyer. He was a UDFA rookie when he came here, and a good enough QB when he left to play 13 more years in the league.

I’d forgotten about Zappe, but he was cut so no ROI.

Stidham was picked in the fourth round, traded with a seventh round pick to get a third round pick in return. That’s ok ROI.

Little Jerry Jones.

Soon Kraft will land his helicopter on the practice field gangsta style. Probably rocking new Jordan's and mugsy jeans like a dog yo.
He has been known to helicopter into Patriot Place before.

I am all for a QB guru. Someone that strictly works with mechanics, arm strength etc
I am all for hiring some top shelf Coaches and GM
(although I think AVP has done a decent job developing Maye, just don’t think he is a great OC)
But why does Young Blunder have to leak everything. It amounts to nothing more than a distraction
It is like Kraft is telling the base. None of this failure is my fault I’m doing everything possible to right the ship
Just do it behind closed doors. And stop being a glorified *****
Setting up AVP, starting to grease the skids…

We all lived through the Mac Jones train wreck...I think the Krafts are doing their due diligence.
If the Krafts still believe Mac Jones was ruined, then BB is 100% right. They dont know the fiorst thing about football

Kraft has apparently been seeking advice on how best to handle a young qb outside of the organization. How does everyone feel about this? All week I’ve heard from multiple sources about how good of a job AVP is doing developing Maye. What reason would Kraft have to meddle and to let it leak no less? Is Kraft planning on pulling the plug on the AVP, McCartney, McAdoo experiment at the end of the season? Is Kraft not satisfied with Drakes development? Is Kraft hearing from sources within the organization that Maye isn’t receiving good coaching? I want to say his heart is in the right place and he’s just wanting to do what’s best by the kid but it all feels dirty to me.
Kraft just watched what happened to their last 1st round QB so he's looking at what's out there to help Maye. I don't see the big deal.

It really isn't rocket science. Plenty of successful HCs have talked to the media respectfully. Apparently Bill never could.
How exactly is it a distraction for Kraft to be looking for help for his QB?

Bill said that the Krafts don't know the first thing about football? That's pretty harsh.

so Mac wasnt only one seeking outside help

Stuff like this didn't happen under the last regime. Kinda makes me pine for that level of secrecy a little bit.

Steve, Brady had outside QB mentors (Rodriquez and Tom House) and a body guy for almost as long as he was here. I don’t like the idea of Kraft meddling in this decision, but I don’t have a problem with Maye having outside help. Ideally it would have been Brady, but that option is gone now that he is a part owner of the Raiders. IMO Maye could simply look at what Brady focused on ( pliability, obsessive film study, always improving his weak links) and build his routines around that, but the technical stuff that Brady used House for after Rodriquez passed away needs someone with really refined, specific knowledge. But Kraft should not be the one making that call.
