Kraft has apparently been seeking advice on how best to handle a young qb outside of the organization. How does everyone feel about this? All week I’ve heard from multiple sources about how good of a job AVP is doing developing Maye. What reason would Kraft have to meddle and to let it leak no less? Is Kraft planning on pulling the plug on the AVP, McCartney, McAdoo experiment at the end of the season? Is Kraft not satisfied with Drakes development? Is Kraft hearing from sources within the organization that Maye isn’t receiving good coaching? I want to say his heart is in the right place and he’s just wanting to do what’s best by the kid but it all feels dirty to me.

Spongy trying to replicate the House/Brady hookup with someone for Maye?

Stuff like this didn't happen under the last regime. Kinda makes me pine for that level of secrecy a little bit.

I think its a great idea.

the brain trust currently in place couldn't develop a photograph taken with a kodak instamatic camera...

Mayes isn't being "developed"... he's scrambling for his life behind a ****ty line.

Brady sitting in 2000? That was a year of development.

I don't see any issue with this. If other professionals are willing to share what worked in developing a young QB why not gather that information. This is EXACTLY what should be done. Who's thinking this is a bad idea?
If the coaches wouldn't take that info and feel dirtied by it then get rid of them., They can take the info and use it or not but having info is never a bad thing.
Seems crazy a coach would just say "I know everything there is to know about this, please don't give me information on what's worked in the past?" They should be happy to get more information that might help them be better at their job.

Of course, still surprising these people think Drake Maye can be ruined . Generational talents may not put up great stats if the team sucks around them, but they are still great QB's. Is Herbert ruined this year after suffering through terrible coaching, complete mismanagement of his early career, and a piss poor defense? No. He's still a top QB.

Doing it is a great idea. Doing it is exactly what the team needs to do to protect their long term investment in Maye.

Telling everybody that you are doing it? And stressing Little Enos Kraft is spearheading the search? Not so much. It undermines Mayo to a significant degree. The intentions most likely fall along the lines of "we want to help him" but it basically says "we think hes going to screw this up... we don't trust him to do this job correctly... we need help" to the rest of the world.

The timing of this is interesting. Knowing they would be drafting a QB, wouldn't you expect this to be a significant question in the hiring of AVP, TC and MacAdoo.
Maye's play has been encouraging so why seek out outside advice now. I can only guess that the conversations with Mayo regarding his plan for developing Maye did not result in satisfactory answers for the Krafts.

Another situation where Kraft is getting involved in football decisions which contradicts Mayo's repeated statements to the contrary.

I don't have a problem with it. I am not enamored with who we currently have.

So you think Maye is coming along as well as he has in spite of the coaching he has received?

Yes in spite of.

If the Krafts wanted to gather information about how to proceed with a young QB it should have been done shortly after the draft. This is a direct slap in the coaching staffs face. I think the staff has done a good job with Maye, I think that if they are looking for outside info then they are planning on coaching staff changes, imo.

We all lived through the Mac Jones train wreck...I think the Krafts are doing their due diligence.

Pats have developed QBs quite well. Brady, Cassell, JG, Hoyer, and Brissett all started in the NFL. Even Stidham. Pretty good for a list of mostly later draft picks over 20 years.

The NFL Draft is a crapshoot; maybe they wanted to make sure after seeing the product. Like I said I have no problems with it.

I agree it is a crap shoot and as owners it is their prerogative, but I would be pissed if I were the coaches.
