Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

I don't understand the point of the comparison to Payton's 3 7-9 seasons. Maybe NO was rebuilding... but they still had their QB. Payton succeeded in rebuilding around Brees because they came out of that stretch as a contender. Sure, ok. BB also succeeded in rebuilding around Brady except he wasn't going 7-9, he was still going to AFC Champ. games. And he was winning multiple super bowls too.

Why are we trying to equate BB's failure to rebuild after Brady to other teams being bad or average while they still have their all time QB on the team in his prime lol

Why are we talking about BB's failed rebuild on a thread dedicated to the "soft" comments Mayo said a couple of weeks ago? Talk about thread derailment.

But they still didn't completely crash and burn like the Pats did. Payton is also a lot younger than Bill

This chart shows a negative point differential 2 seasons out of 3 in that 3 year gap in the middle. The offensive points numbers there look fine, the defense was really bad - I mean almost 30 points allowed a game in 2015... doubtful even Brady could overcome that. I don't follow them closely enough to know why that happened but point remains this was not a deteriorating team where the Pats after Brady were.
But Payton still had full control of the roster. And the statement I bolded hurts your argument.

The 2020-2023 Pats roster was atrocious, yet won more games than the Saints teams during that span.

Payton won 2 playoff games, went to the playoffs 3 times in six seasons, was suspended for one which is embarrassing for any franchise, then missed the playoffs for 3 consecutive years. He should've been canned after the 2016 season.

Because you guys must put down Bill everytime you post

Look at you taking a deep dive into point differentials of the Saints just so you can hate on Bill. A troll is gonna troll.

Not only that you're completely ignoring one side of the ball. I can only imagine how many times we'd have to see you post about it if Bill let up almost 30 points per game.

I've done no such thing. Pointing out that he's had bad drafts and made poor personnel decisions on his coaching staff post-Brady isn't putting him down. It's just pointing out the facts.
But why does it belong in a thread about Mayo calling his players soft?

And of course you're doing it to put him down.

I didn't start that conversation. I'm more than willing to drag this thread back on track.

I mean, there's not much else to say. Mayo has cleaned up his language when giving interviews since then and BB hasn't said anything regarding his recent comments.

Again, they didn't totally crash and burn like the Pats did. Bottom line. If they did then yeah maybe Payton gets canned.

@pherein2 would probably have a perspective on that but I don't know if he's around anymore.

I can only imagine how you would still defend your hoodied hero if his defense let up 30 points a game.
