If matters continue more or less as they are, should the Krafts fire Mayo at season's end?

Mayo is awful but Kraft will let him scapegoat the coordinators and do his low budget Raidersesque reboot so Drake will have 3 OCs by the time he gets to his 3rd year and Mayo is fired.

The writing is on the wall.
Do you think it’s better to have a crappy OC for 3 years?

I was 50-50 on whether to go for it or not but after they held them to a FG I thought Maye would at least tie the game, they were running out of time, if not for Boutte falling down that pass might have been complete, I think he read the defense right but didn't account for his receiver falling down and the guy on defense peeling off.
You mean Bourne right?

Going for 2 and putting the game in Mayes hands (your best player) on a make or break play is by far the best chance to win.
I would have spread the field and run a qb draw if I got the D I could run it against. Thats a very effective 2 point play with a guy who runs like Maye.

The added benefit is you QB plays hero and you have 2 consecutive last second wins to build morale. M
This way we are back to being soft and get the ball run down our throats at will.
Why wouldn't putting the ball in the hands of your best play for longer with more chances to score lead to a loss?

Vrabel only won NFL Coach of the Year three short years ago. Then went on to field competitive teams with subpar rosters/nobodies playing quarterback. His record: 56-48 over six seasons including playoffs. Yes, you are in the minority.
Vrabel is not the answer.

So what happens if they win 10-11 games next year? Not saying I think they do just wondering what the climate would be in here if he did.
They are not winning 10 games with Mayo as HC. Absolutely no chance of that happening.

Honestly even Jeff Fischer was a better coach than Mayo

Those of you twisting your panties over how unpleasant or mean it is to take note of Mayo's obvious incompetence are simply afraid to face an obvious fact. Not to worry though: this is not a very urgent problem at this point. The only remaining purposes of this season are to develop and evaluate the roster and to see to it that the team has as high a draft position as possible. Mayo is probably capable of the former, and he is ideally suited to the latter purpose. Short of outright forfeiting games, he is the ideal man to oversee the requisite series of losses necessary to accomplish this objective.

That is an excellent comp.

That’s the gold standard for failure. I’ve soured on Mayo but . . . man.

Let's say the team picks the number 1 draft pick and Maye looks the part.

Somebody needs to pick up the shtick . So could be AVP and Covington. But who is going to Join Mayo's staff considering he has no contacts . And this collab approach crap should be well known all across league. So no young upstart would want to come here.

The only hope for maye would be to sign fired HC retreads. Again they were super slow in extending offer to Saleh. That guy was good . Now Dennis Allen is a decent DC. Start getting some of them in as consultants as least to build pipeline.

Wolf draft looks like worst draft ever beating 2019, 2022 and deatrich wise draft ( 2016??) . Maye is a stud but that cannot be credited to wolf. 9/10 times you make the pick .

We got lucky with Springer joining us here and Peters being Oline coach. Rest all might need to be canned.

If maye did not develop we could give Mayo 1 more year. But we have a superstar QB and bottom of barrel coaching staff.

If Mayo is fired , who knows we could get maybe a rock solid GM- HC tandem. I would not be averse to poaching from the lions front office and Ben Johnson if he can come here. Heard that Ben Johnson wanted to go to bears . Seeing Drake he might be inclined to come here .

Mayo was put in a spot of failure by kraft. Bad decision and mayo not being ready to be a HC. Its sunk cost like nkeal harry, joejuan, Thornton and Polk. Just eat your losses and move on.

The bolded above is what's sorely missing from our current HC. Apart from that, the players loved playing for him. So he apparently bumped heads with the front office. There is no telling for sure whose fault that might be, but I'll side with the coach considering the power players in Tennessee.

You're correct, however I have no interest in getting another HC who can barely keep an offense together, who has communication issues, and who holds onto internal staff at the detriment of the team.

The issue wasn't just Vrabel, but that list of qualities is a known commodity here and we know how it goes. Now if he wanted to be a DC? Hell yeah, I'm all in.

The "communication issues" had more to do with rookie GM Ran Carthon than Vrabel. That Titans front office from owner-down is suspect at best. Strunk is clueless. Vrabel told her Ryan Cowden was the best GM choice and that Carthon wasn't ready for the job. It went downhill from there after Strunk named Carthon. Strunk also had a grudge against Vrabel for his in-season Patriots Hall of Fame induction.

Again, you're talking about someone named NFL Coach of the Year, who strung together winning seasons with playoff appearances and has proven he can organize/run a solid program. Vrabel is no BB clone. With a good OC he'd give us a winning team.

I don't really care much for a single year designation. Daboll won it and is now 2-7. Nagy ain't even a HC anymore. Garrett left a coordinator. Marvin Lewis lol.

I think we just disagree haha, which is fine because that **** ain't happening anyway.

That would at least lead us to an honest search for a HC in a year or 2.

If he remains terrible the Krafts have no choice but to fire him. The nightmare scenario is that he learns enough to become moderately mediocre then rides Maye to the playoffs year after year. Mayo will be getting his lunch taken by the other playoff coaches every single time and will keep his job because "he makes the playoffs every year."
With Maye or not, I highly doubt that Mayo is going to take any team to the playoffs. Moderately mediocre is not going to cut it.

I had high hopes for Mayo but he's made some really strange decisions. Maybe he'll use those as lessons learner, maybe not but I suspect if year #2 is like year #1, he won't see year #3 in NE.

He needs to learn what to do at the end of the half. BB was great at managing those situations. You figure he would have picked something up by osmosis at least.
