Well it’s all intricately woven.

The WRs don’t separate well because the route design is poor and the scheme sucks.

The RBs don’t run the ball well because the line isn’t blocking well and also because the play calls are so obvious and easy to predict.

The pass blocking is mostly due to injury and guys being overmatched but still there’s some coaching issues here. Why put Onwenu back at tackle and play Robinson at guard again? I saw multiple times that Robinson got beat badly and ruined a play. I don’t really grasp why they needed to do that. Onwenu at RG/Jacobs at RT was fine and they were building continuity.
Agreed. There's a lot of coaching issues, which probably makes sense when you consider that they hired a rookie HC and first-time playcallers.

Typically, the HC blames the playcallers when a team is losing, and the playcallers get fired first. So, I wonder if AVP and maybe Covington get canned over the offseason and Mayo tries to hire some new coordinators. But who in their right mind would want those jobs under Mayo?

I hate to be overly critical of Maye but he needed to throw this even farther. Boutte had to slow down and it made it easier for the safety to intercept the pass. Had it been a pass in stride the safety would have had to make a hell of a play or possible PI.

Maybe Robert has a few other travel buddies for whom he has tender feelings and to whom he'd like like to offer a no-work job.

Mayo is a Potemkin village of a HC. There is no there there. As a coach he is like a Hollywood set - all front and no back, a facade that depends on scaffolding to hold it up and his scaffolding is Covington and AVP. Until Kraft recognizes this there will be no saving this franchise.

You can see that right before Maye decides to commit to the throw, the second safety is still somewhat tight to Bourne, so it made sense to think that it was single high. Unfortunately right as Maye starts to get into his stance and throwing motion, Bourne begins to just fall over for no reason, which tells the safety he's free to let go and go play ball hawk upfield - which was very timely for him.

If Bourne could've just been a basic competent NFL player capable of staying upright on the field, this would probably have been an incompletion at worst.

I ask again - why are the receivers just falling over all the time? Running into each other? Running routes in the same exact spot? This is all a coaching problem. When this was happening under Matt Patricia, we laughed and poked fun at him and cried for him (and for many, Bill also) to be fired. Now that it happens under Alex Van Pelt and Mayo, some folks seem to think it's OK? I can't get my head around it.

Yup this offense is worse than the Patricia offense. Mind blowing. The coaching staff and GM have to go.

I don't know the reality, but Mayo said the wind changed from beginning of game to the end, Maye said the wind was in his face and did not throw it hard enough to compensate.
Bad throw, easy pick but on that tape looks like the right decision. Maye has not historically missed by that much so I'm thinking wind was a factor. Too bad because that would have been a possible TD and incredible ending. I guess it is best because if after that tying TD at end of game he then threw this Overtime TD....the hype would be insane. 1 Play goes from insane hype to rookie mistake. I'll take it.
Then again, I'm on board with getting #1 overall and losing games like this.
I'd like to see less hits on Maye but every play is a learning experience for a young QB.
It is all about next year and the year after and getting talent around him. Get a top 3 pick and add a playmaker to the offense.

Yes, I questioned the Robinson start. Two games of semi adequate offensive line improvement and they decide to change things up. They (coaches) did nothing to impact Simmons effectiveness. Those (attempted) screen plays are pitiful. I thought that was the worst game of the year. I chalked up the Jacksonville game to London travel, while the Jags remained over there. This was just pitiful. Give the Tennessee defense some credit, but we did zero effective game planning and execution. Drake running and improvising is not building a team.

But it is better than the BoB offense of last year.

Matt Patricia really deserves an apology cake at this point
I can't agree with that. Yesterday's offense was offensive. Poor game plan, poorer execution.

This is absolutely infuriating. Bourne is completely untouched and just... can't run properly?
Did you see Douglas and Bourne almost run into each other before Bourne peels off and falls down? Bourne was probably supposed to run a Go to keep the 2nd safely wide while Douglas and Boutte are running at 2 different levels.

The Patriots lost the coin toss in Overtime and chose to kick and throw into the wind. Mayo said the wind changed from beginning of game to overtime. WTH?
You did not know the wind changed when you lost the coin toss? Of course you did!
You did not tell the captain that the pre-game strategy for wind direction was now different?
Wow! Terrible attention to detail, that is embarrassing.

I don't disagree with the decision to throw that pass but the thought process should have been 'the worst possible scenario is an INT let me throw it where only my receiver can get it'.

Agree with everything else you posted.

Dunno if this was the difference but yeah Bourne trips at the Ten 47 yard line then the S breaks for where the ball is going. Too zoomed out to tell if he reacted only after Bourne went down or if he just made a really nice read on the ball. Too bad Maye didn’t throw it to the left a bit more or put a bit more juice on the throw.

I'm perfectly happy for Maye to make learning/growing mistakes this year in what is a losing season.

Generally I would agree but you'd hate for him to develop bad habits especially if it's reinforced by bad coaching.

I doubt that is going to happen. Listen to what Maye says in the postgame. I have no worries about him almost self correcting his mistakes. He's very self aware of what his shortfalls are and how he need to fix them. I think he is almost coaching immune.

I’m saying good players matter more than good coaches. Always have and always will. If I had to choose between Bill and Brady at their best, and could only choose one…gimme Brady. Easy choice.

Good players can carry subpar coaches to a lot of wins. The reverse just isn’t true. Case in point the Pats the last few years.
Look at McDermott for example.. I would not say he's an all world coach wspc with his choice of motivation tactics if you remember. But his all pro QB elevates him.

Sounds about right for Mayo. He was too busy staring into space silently contemplating his life choices on the sidelines all game to do anything about any of that.

I didn't think it was a bad pass; I think it would have been completed without the interception by Hooker. It was a good play by Hooker and a poor sell by Bourne.
