Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

Yes, until Bob had the urge to make "The Dynasty" and confirm the long debated rumors that he was going to fire Bill after 2001 had they not made the playoffs. Bob didn't like what Bill was doing, but was willing to watch him potentially crash and burn for playing Brady over Bledsoe. He's that Boss that doubts you and says you're wrong, then tries to take all the credit for your success. He's a turd.
It was a real eye opener for me.

Okie dokie. But that shouldn't be true for Pats fans who object to Bill talking **** about the Pats.

I don't participate in the discussion as much as I'd like because I think coaching is way overrated to begin with. But if I'm going to have to hear how great Bill is in every thread then maybe I'll join the fray.
This is a Pats Fans message board forgive me if you think this is the wrong place to praise Bill. and I don't do it in every thread. Just the ones where the Jets fans try to troll us.

Did you even read what Bill said he wasn't talking **** he said guys like Jones and Gaudchaux weren't soft.

No matter what he says now I find it hard to believe he would have done that so quickly after giving up a 1st rounder and other picks to get him.

2002-03 is probably a different story.

No need for forgiveness. I have no problem praising Bill for his good deeds, but talking crap about the team now that he's gone deserves to be called out, even if you want to call it hate from a non Pats fan.

You can't even admit that Belichick was being critical of Mayo.

Please provide direct quote of what he said bad about Mayo? Or the team?

Bob was paying Bledsoe a lot of money and you can't have him sitting on the bench for a 6th rounder in his second year. That is not only embarrassing for Bledsoe, but Bob Kraft as well. Herman Edwards said Bill told him he wasn't going to last the year. Skip Bayless had also stated on his show a few years ago that he had an unnamed friend on the Pats coaching staff that said he was fearing the entire staff was going to get canned after the 0-2 start. Scott Pioli also confirmed in the documentary that had Brady flamed out, everyone was getting fired.

I think we all forget the Pats were considered Super Bowl contenders from 1997-1999, so Bob had high expectations for the team. They still had guys who were considered among the elite such as Bledsoe, Glenn, Law, Milloy, McGinest, and Ted Johnson. Bill Belichick was brought in to get them back over the hump, but got even worse since Bill's arrival stripping the roster and not adding anyone significant for the 2000 season. 2001 didn't look much better with all the old veterans Bill brought in and the highly controversial Richard Seymour pick when help for Bledsoe was a dire need.

Missing the playoffs in 2001 would've now been 3 years in a row. Bill would've absolutely been canned had Seymour been a Malcolm Brown or even worse Damien Easley and Brady was like Bailey Zappe.

This is a thread about Bill publicly taking a shot at the Pats. He deserves criticism for that and a few other things. That isn't hate, it's an observation.
I haven't interpreted any of his remarks as taking shots at the Patriots. People, particularly media just look for something they can twist around. As part of his media appearances, he is asked questions. He appears to answer them honestly without bias.

I see at least a dozen players on that list that are standouts. One or two might even be in the HOF.

Bill added quite a few FAs in 2001 that worked out great, like Vrabel and Phifer. The Pats also got lucky when Drew got hurt.

Unfortunately, this is two decades later and the rules have been set up to favor the QBs. It's almost to the point now where the best QB wins.
I think you missed the point though.

I was saying that most people thought these players were duds. Bobby Grier was fired. The NFL GMs and scouts said these players were the worst roster in the league.

The fact they became standouts later is a testament to them coming together under good coaching.

Right now we're discussing Dugger and this is a kid who had an All-Pro worthy 2022. But now he's considered expendable.

On a decent team with good coaching, he's a top player. We have him miscast as a deep free safety. That's not what he is.

This is the second week in a row the Patriot's offense had time on the clock, with multiple timeouts and the ball before halftime... this is the second time in two weeks the coaches mismanaged the clock and came away with no points before the half.

The coaches on this team are soft in the head, the GM is equally as soft at recognizing talent... so we're destined to be soft until the owners admit they screwed up and make changes.

High standard for Belichick: He’s to blame when a player on another team gets hurt and he’s working in the media.

There is a large contingency of posters here who believe Belichick should only get credit, and never get any blame. IMO he should get credit where he earned it, like 6 rings and GOAT status, but blame for his bad decisions as well, like Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

Jones wasn't even a bad pick when it was made. Hardly anyone was second guessing it, it was the logical thing to do. His decisions impacting Jones especially starting in year 2 tho... different story.

What's the point? Of course I'd rather talk about successes rather than failures and I'll never understand why there is a large contingency of posters here who can't stop denigrating BB in every thread over and over and over like some South Park version of Rochambeau. There is very little point or value to it other than they know it pisses off board members.

Very strange that this is the only thing you defend Bill about. It's almost like you have an alternative motive.

Very strange that you seem to be obsessed with my opinion of Bill, which in reality is very different than what you think it is.

Not strange at all you manage to piss me off with a derogatory post about BB in just about every thread you post in. Since I actually like this team I defend it against terrible takes like the ones you can't stop spewing over and over and over.

I very much enjoyed the last 25-30 years of football and I don't have to stand by and read post after post of trolls trying to rip it apart.
