Solid win, shows progress

Agreed, we’re not getting that performance again from Jacoby. If he has to play we will need rham and Gibson to have a monster day. Thankfully rham looks to be getting better on that ankle , he wasn’t amazing but at least made some guys miss yesterday.
It was the day of the has been QB

Jameson Winston went off for over 300 and 3 TDs. Gardner Minschew hung in there vs Mahomes. Kyle Murray went 300. Golden Boy Trevor Larence went 300 and 2 TDs.

Progress:

Stopped the run - check
Better o-line play - check
Gonzalez played better - check
Better coaching - check
Brissett played better - check
Running game improved - check
Better special teams play - check
Team showed heart - check
The Jets deciding not to run the ball isn't 'stopping the run'. 16 carries for 80 yards for Breece Hall yesterday. Patriots RBs had 25 carries for 54 yards yesterday. I don't know what you were watching.

Well, time will tell if the team is truly turning a corner.

However, Gonzo absolutely showed progress yesterday, good lord.

I hope we get to see Milton.

He should be active if Maye can’t go.
Is that what we really need? More controversy at the qb position? If Brisett wins, the ball
Automatically goes back to Maye? If Maye out a couple of games and a Brisett wins them, what then?

Rushing yards given up:

Week 5 193 yds. 4.7 avg
Week 6 192 yds. 6.9 avg
Week 7 171 yds. 4.4 avg
Week 8 112 yds. 4.0 avg

To say there wasn’t progress made is asinine. And Breece Hall is not their only player who runs the ball. Opponents rushing avg came way down.

The team had every reason to loose and they still won. That means something in the locker room.
This right here.

With the team trending down, there has been a ton of talk of just fully embracing a tanking mindset and refreshing next year with the highest draft picks possible each round. A “screw it” attitude that this team can have the ability to put everything down this year and pick it back up next year, and that there is no opportunity the rest of this season to build on.

The reality is this is an emotional and high stakes game, and it is a JOB for the coaches, players, etc involved. We see them mostly for around 3 hours here or there once a week in TV. We don’t see how it impacts their well being off the field, their anxieties over professional livelihood, how that impacts personal livelihood and ultimately what it really takes to maintain the formula to stay in this league. There is nothing to suggest they can just say F it the rest of the way and accept punting on a season. That’s completely irrational.

It’s so easy as a fan to just say, “pass” without thinking of the implications. Imagine if all 53 and staff had that mindset and wanted to accept that? Would anyone really want that loser mentality for this team? That would be a much greater concern than any sort of concerns around draft positioning, and a hell of a lot of roster/coaching turnover required to change that.

Anyways, hopefully the Jets win will build on something. Said it already in the postgame thread, but if wins are a rare commodity this year, how sweet it is to have one of them be such a dagger on the Jetes season.

I certainly would not call it a "solid" win. New Jersey had the edge statistically while shooting itself in the foot at key moments. But the Pats deserve kudos for seizing what the Jete gave them. ANY win in ANY fashion is a step forward for this crew.

It's Mayes job now. Nothing Brisett can do to win it back, ditto for Milton. That ship has sailed.

"Solid Win," the thread title says. The only encouraging thing about this win - for some - might be that Mayo's hold on the HC position is more secure. Whether Mayo's continuing in that role will constitute a "win" for the team is very much in doubt. My concern is that we might - potentially year after year after year, under the "leadership" of Robert, Mayo, Wolfe et al - win just enough games to feed the delusion that the team can ever be anything better than mediocre under such mediocre leadership. (See recent Jets history, ironically enough.) We need to keep our eye on the ball, on the goal of becoming actually, meaningfully competitive. I regard all this giddy pom pom waving following last week's oddball win as a distraction and, to the extent it generates optimism, as based on delusion.

This is exactly the sort of post one has been seeing over at the JetsNation forum for the last quarter century. The price of delusion is perpetual failure. We have made little progress in this rebuild, truth be told, and we are now burdened with incompetent leadership - in coaching and in the front office - as a result of a sloppy, unprofessional "job search" overseen by a failing owner. Enjoy, I suppose.

Jumping the gun here I know but Elliss is giving me Ninkovich vibes, a practice squad guy coming in and making fast progress like he has. It’s the first sign I’ve seen this year on defense that indicates guys buying into their coaching and having it translate into impact on a game.

As much as the team needs an influx of talent throughout the roster, it is just as important for them to have “supporting players” who answer the call when they get their chances. That’s where effective coaching is critical. They are not going to be able to simply buy or draw their way out of their predicament.

Your not jumping the gun at all. I mentioned eliss yesterday in a post. The guy seems to get better and better. He had a good camp and earned a s roster spot. Now he has a regular role in the defense. He can rush, play the run. He's a young guy and I expect him to keep getting better. He definitely is a bright spot on the defense . Once we get some of our Dawgs back on defense Barmore, Bentley, peppers. eliss could really be a playmaker.

Agreed. Brissett came in and did what a back up is supposed to do. That's why he was signed. This is drakes team and the talent disparity could not have been more apparent as pop went back missing again when Brissett came in.

I think it says volumes about Maye that one so young and a rookie too, can command so much respect. The futures bright, the futures Maye.

Absolutely agree. He makes others better, he can break down defenses with his arm and athletic abilities.. he's a leader and as he matures he will only get better and better.

Sticking with Brissett if Maye is healthy would be a good way to alienate the fan base. Maye should be the undisputed starter. Brissett has no future on the team.

As the backup, sure. He's not going to get a starting offer anywhere this offseason.

It’s good to see him make plays but let’s pump the brakes a little. He was a huge part of the run D issues vs jville, really looking like he had no clue.
