Looks like the guys that are harder to move on from financially in 2025 are Barmore, Onwenu, Dugger, Stevenson, and probably Godchaux. Most of the other guys are not too painful to move, either via a straight cut, a post-June 1st cut or a trade.
I think those 5 players are most likely guys who would be kept by almost any coach though. Onwenu is a really good guard and has flexibility. Barmore is a potentially elite DT and Godchaux looks good this year. Stevenson is generally good and would give you reason to want to try him in a new scheme. The only one I could see on the outside is perhaps Dugger due to scheme fit, but if that’s the case I doubt they’d have any trouble trading him since much of his deal is tied up in guarantees that NE would pay.
Onwenu *was* a good guard. He's been brutal all season long. Once in a while it looks like he's holding his own again at least, and then he'll lose four reps in a row to nobodies. Barmore might be their best defensive player - but who knows what he'll look like when he comes back, he hasn't played in a while. I hope there's minimal dropoff, because Godchaux could really use the help.
Stevenson was running on an elite level I'd never really seen before, until Mayo decided 3 games too late to send a message and bench him for fumbles (because, you know, the offense had so much else going for them at that point). He then got hurt (again), and has been pretty garbage ever since - and has forced Gibson into a lead-back role he's simply not suited for.
Dugger looks like he's playing out of position, and looks lost. I can chalk that up to lack of coaching, but he's being paid a bunch of money to look lost.
Outside of the defensive tackles (they didn't, at least I *think* the didn't) know Barmore had the blood clots ahead of time, right now, I'm not sure you'd get worse production from street free agents. I know on the o-line, every street free agent they've brought in, has been better than the draft picks and free agent signings.
It's kind of terrifying how little the front office did to set this team up for the future talent-wise, and it's equally terrifying to think they're not going anywhere.
