Why'd Josh have to go take that Raider job. It killed any chance Mac had and it killed his own HC chances. But I suppose he gets to keep that 50 mil.

You more or less answered your own question. McDaniels had 60 million reasons to take that Raiders job.

IMO they need to go with someone devoid of any ties to NE. They tried the NE ties approach with Mayo and it didn’t work out, so need to pivot in a different direction.

That said, I think Kliff Kingsbury’s connection is far enough removed that he doesn’t really count. But he wouldn’t be my first choice.

Ben Johnson is the golden goose. It would be hard to get him, but all first time HCs want the chance to work with a great young QB to make a name for their own careers as well. Especially one young enough that they can still mold. So I do think Maye will make this job desirable, but the rest of the roster is not good. Wolf would really have to sell candidates on a plan to use their cash hoard and presumably high draft picks to improve the roster.

If they do get a good “name” coach, it’ll help attract free agents. Johnson, Kingsbury would probably do well there.

What happened with Kingsbury in Arizona? He improved their record each of his first 3 seasons including a playoff appearance, then they drop to 4 wins and he bolts for Thailand. Any info on the backstory there?

Yeah, yeah and money supposedly can't buy love or happiness either but it sure can rent some lovin' and a boat big enough to let you pull up right alongside of happiness.

Realistically the Raiders paid McDaniels enough that his kids and their kids probably won't have any financial worries. How do you say no to that kind of financial windfall for your family if you're him?

Need someone with connections who can bring in assistants . Also need someone who is a taskmaster and not a softie HC. Need someone who can stick for at least 2 - 3 years. The OCs should be ones who do not have HC aspirations for next 2-3 years.

I advocated before Mayo got hired for Sarkesian at TX. Give him the keys to the whole thing, like Fairbanks. He's taken the UT program that was in complete disarray and whipped it into a top program (last Sat's results notwithstanding). He's young, energetic, creative, has vision, can manage a huge organization.
