Josh would have been my first choice for most of the last decade. I don't think that was really on the table last off-season so Flores was actually who I wanted.

This time I don't think I want someone off the Bill tree. But I also don't want a first time head coach either. So I think we need to dig deeper and find someone with experience.

Would Spagnola be option? Though I also think I'd prefer someone offensive minded.

Why'd Josh have to go take that Raider job. It killed any chance Mac had and it killed his own HC chances. But I suppose he gets to keep that 50 mil.

Any offensive minded HC with a ring as an assistant and on their second attempt at being a head coach would be what I'm looking for.

Spags may also keep AVP which I don’t want to take him from Maye.
Im not ready to do that yet.
I think AVP should stay on in some kind of role.
It’s Covington and Mayo who I think are unfortunately the weak links currently.

If Maye keeps improving, there will be a line of coaches wanting a piece of him. I can't think that Kraft isn't having major second thoughts about his crap process.

Scary thing I heard tonight from Breer was this situation is a lot like the Cowboys and Garrett. Garrett got 9 years because he was seen as part of the Jones family.

Please god, I hope the Krafts are smarter than that. I think that you could get a couple of people here to be a coaching staff for the Patriots and they would be better than they are right now.

IMO they need to go with someone devoid of any ties to NE. They tried the NE ties approach with Mayo and it didn’t work out, so need to pivot in a different direction.

That said, I think Kliff Kingsbury’s connection is far enough removed that he doesn’t really count. But he wouldn’t be my first choice.

Ben Johnson is the golden goose. It would be hard to get him, but all first time HCs want the chance to work with a great young QB to make a name for their own careers as well. Especially one young enough that they can still mold. So I do think Maye will make this job desirable, but the rest of the roster is not good. Wolf would really have to sell candidates on a plan to use their cash hoard and presumably high draft picks to improve the roster.

If they do get a good “name” coach, it’ll help attract free agents. Johnson, Kingsbury would probably do well there.

Offensive and passing game minded.
Has a DC with some experience and success to bring. (Old guys are fine)

Wouldn’t mind Stefanski if the browns fire him.

Bienemy with an older veteran DC with HC experience (Zimmer?)


The problem with experienced coaches is 90% of them failed, but 90% of the inexperienced ones will too.

I want to see Kingsbury, he onboarded Daniel’s and Mariota looked great in his absence and he has HC experience. Question is does he want the Boston Media and the hope of Patriots nation resting on his shoulders,

I like the idea of Stefanski always impressed by him and he has a relationship with Van Pelt and can keep him around to whisper to Maye.

Anything but Mayo who brings no offensive experience the defense has regressed and he’s lost even his biggest supporters in the locker room.
