I'm not calling time on Mayo, but I would say his body language stinks. He looks completely lost/bewildered on the sidelines.
You took the words right out of my mouth. Near the end of the game today, Mayo looked like a puppy who was lost and couldn't find his way home. I believe he has a good football mind and relates really well to people. But, I also.believe.he has tried so hard to be the anti-Bill that he's played the role of his players pal. That's cute and pleasing to everyone as long as you're winning, (see game 1 this season.) But, once you're the players pal, you can never, ever be their boss. It's !ike teachers who want to be friends with their students. Players and students don't need their coaches and teachers to be their friends. They have their own friends. I don't think Mayo can ever regain the appropriate boss/employee relationship, and that's assuming he ever had it to begin with. This rebuild is going to take a long time and I don't think it'll ever be realized as long as Mayo is the head coach. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

Does he...relate well to people though?
Throwing your players under the bus to the media week after week doesn't seem like great relations.

Yes, you're right. And when bright, aware people like Mayo see things going sideways and sense blame is coming their way they look to spread that blame around. The same guys who were lauded after the week 1 win (remember the premature "talking them to the hill" nonsense?) are now "soft" - and he's correct,, they are.

Something i never understood. The so called "patriot way" has been successful for 20 yrs. yes not 5. So why abandon and try to distance yourself from it so hard and try this supposed "packer way" which has 2 SB appearances in 25+ yrs with 2 elite QBs ? Its as if they decided everything BB did was bad and we will do opposite.

It's not the front office's fault if Rodgers is a historic playoff choker.

Oh the local media friends couldnt stop about how it was the toughest camp ever and running the hill made them conditioned and mayo even announced after the came that they are running team until someone stops and then we have something else.
IF the media wasnt so biased for him , they would ask him this question. At least in that regard mayo has played it well - gotten the local media on his side.

They were so sick of Bill's disdain of them that they wholeheartedly embraced Mayo. Even people I respect, like Phil Perry, fell for the "tough" storyline.

A thread about Mayo and your post is all about BB. BB is not with the Pats anymore. How long will BB keep hurting you? Are you talking to your emotional therapist about your pain?
Lol calm down. This is the like literally first post I have ever written about BB, check my limited number of posts. Save your E-bullets for your cohorts that like to play pew pew with you.

They are playing Brissett and the youngsters. That was the plan, still is the plan for 2024. Mayo is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. The record is what we thought it would be.

Can’t fault the guy for injuries.
Yup.. Right on. Picking on Mayo in Sept and Oct with the personnel challenges they have is silly. Look, Mayo was deemed a special guy long ago in terms of coach on the field.... leader of men....smarts.... That was reported on in a big way. Mayo was the guy to take this job. No doubt. Short term, the team is having obvious personnel issues with injuries at positions that were critically weak (line of scrimmage). They are in a brand new offense that was going to take a year to get all up to speed on. Not a summer camp. Patience.

I guess I'm willing to wait a year or two to get back in the thick of things, we had it so good for so long I guess this is the price you pay. I'm not saying Mayo's great or Lombardi just that I'm willing to give him some time to grow into the role. If he doesn't improve over time, I'll be on the get rid of him bandwagon too. It's just that this year was going to be bad no matter who the coach was so it's a good time for a rookie coach to grow, if he doesn't, I'll be the first to say get someone else.
My Lombardi reference was just to show not all good or great coaches start out that way.

Agree with this, although I’m getting concerned about the things that can be expected of Mayo’s coaching to this point. I didn’t expect any significant turn around in terms of wins and losses, but I did expect him to have them ready to play their hardest, regardless of the situation, and to play clean in terms of penalties and stupid mistakes, and so far they have only done that twice. And while I think he gets some leeway as a first year coach on verbal missteps, that doesn’t hold up when it’s happening weekly, which is turning out to be the case. I was also willing to give the defense a pass because the offense was leaving them on the field all day every week, but that doesn’t excuse teams walking down the field and scoring first drive, or their performance yesterday. So while I am willing to give him a chance to learn and prove himself, they need to stat getting their **** together or he is going to dig himself a hole he can’t get out of.

That said I don’t believe Kraft will fire him after a season, but if they do then I want a young offensive minded head coach to replace him.

Any coach can look capable with good players. The test of good coaching is how you adjust and make do strategically/tactically with a roster that's less than ideal. Inexperienced neophyte Mayo and his scrap-heap staff were the absolute worst choice to tackle such a monumental program rebuild.

I agree with the sentiment, but he also has to show he can be an NFL head coach and that his other coaches have talent.
You got a top NFL QB on a rookie contract. Love to maximize that. If he's not going to make it then best to get the right guy (aka Ben Johnson) in here ASAP.
The first 2 games is what you expected to see from this team, low penalties, disciplined defense tough on the run, tough running the ball on offense.
You expect them to get better at those things as the season goes on. Not sure the injuries were a ton worse from the first 2 games.
They were only in the Miami game because Miami has no QB, If Tua played it would be 5 blowouts in a row. Not cutting it even for a bad team.
I am willing to let the season play out, but the defense is absolute trash and that should not be, Mayo has a defensive background, he needs to involve himself on that side of the ball. It seems he is just delegating but maybe behind the scenes he's more involved with game planning.

From what I've read and heard (unofficially), Mayo is not directly involved with game planning in any phase. I'll post confirmative links if I can find them but this might have been a la radio via Breer and/or Bedard. If true it's one of the more telling and disturbing aspects of this new regime's ongoing clusterf*ck.

Certainly not when it comes to halftime. I have yet to see any real changes coming out of the half on either side of the ball in any game this year. I just don't understand why every first down play must be a draw, can someone with more football knowledge explain to me the tactical advantage of getting between -1 to 2 yards on first down.
