Mayo seemingly blaming Bill for the state of the roster

Mayo did not say it or imply it, but truth of matter is bill bears a great deal of blame for the mess we are in. Bill was a goat coach and great GM till 2010s. Cometh 2012 and beyond GM powers began to wane, cometh 2017 - GM powers began to fall off a cliff.
2020 and beyond - everything stunk including coaching and org management.

For a team picking in mid 15s last 4 years , not a single pro bowler yet .

We should compare first 2 rounds against chiefs, ravens, Steelers, packers, bills, eagles, bucs just to see how the performance has been. These teams have eternally reached playoffs and drafted late. For pats, just 2023 draft looking decent for now. All others are meh and 2022 draft is 2019 redux
Please do that comparison

You forgot Mac, LOL. Hopefully Gonzo or one of the most recent choices flourish as the team gets better.

As do I… But ya still gotta make good picks whenever you do make them.
That's why, to me, the order of importance starts with rating and picking the players. It's pretty obvious by this incredibly poor roster that it's been a complete failure the last few years, and acting like Bill had nothing to do with it is laughable.

I'm doing a comparison of the AFCE drafts since 2000 and I'm thinking of expanding to the other teams. It could take a while but would really help get a closer look. From what I've seen so far the Pats drafts over that time have been pretty good.

I also did a comparison of HOF QBs a while ago. Only a handful of HOF QBs out of 35 were the fist pick or even the first QB taken

I am sure Mayo will backtrack on this in another 48 hours but it is pretty easy to read between the lines on this one. While agree he is mostly right I don't love the finger pointing and excuse making. Him and Wolf had the opportunity this offseason to fix the offensive line and they gambled on a guy who quit the team and some rookies.

Mayo's guys tom curran and phil perry go to bat for him and krafts

Curran will probably blame Bill if Mayo gets fired in a few years.

Just cleaning up the penalties will improve things dramatically. I hope Mayo cracks down. I understand he doesnt want to be another Bill but the players might take that as weakness and not fear for their jobsS much.

It must be the Krafts to blame for the pathetic off season this year. Last years draft, in which Wolf was involved, was exceptional, if misguided by its defensive orientation. This year has been a disaster. It has that unprofessional flavor that is usually the sign of a owner who meddles in personnel decisions.

The 2023 draft was certainly Not “exceptional”, not by a damn sight.

BB left the Pats with a bare cupboard, Eliot Wolf failed in free agency and with the draft..
This team is rife with a bunch of average players and little quality depth.
All the while they are sitting on about $36 million in cap room this year and $130+ million next year.
To get back on a more reasonable trajectory might have to overpay some players to come to the Pats.. bringing a bunch of "might be good" players is not an answer. Either that or tank this year.. which will devalue this franchise.
There is plenty of blame to go around, Kraft hired Wolf & Mayo. AVP is a terrible OC and Covington is pretty much the same.
Mr. Kraft needs to shake things up a bit starting with Wolf..

Mayo seems to be blaming everyone but himself. The lot of them bear responsibility. I’m looking forward to a time NE moves on from ‘embarrassing on field performances’.

In a few YEARS?! Man I hope not. He and his staff need to go after this year…..he seems like he has lost the team

I don't want to get into the rinse and repeat wash cycle. It's one of the reasons I would have given Bill longer too.
