A defense worthy of its #1 ranking would be good enough to handle good teams. They didn't and weren't. Period. They benefited from their schedule and nothing more. Kinda like how the "#2 ranked" 2021 defense got slapped around by every single good offensive team they played and then smashed 47-17 in the playoffs. They and their "genius" HC sure looked like they were Number Two didn't they. Lol

Pointing at the 2024 Jets defense who give up the 4th fewest points, top 6 in fewest yards per rushing attempt and suggesting they’re not that good… and you did, anyone can scroll up and read… is absurd. Especially when you don’t mention how their offense is 23rd in scoring and middle of the pack in turnovers. This is also true when discussing the 2019 Patriots.

Defense, or offense for that matter, doesn’t occur in a vacuum. There’s a complementary nature to football as a team sport.

Also 14th in yards and 9th in YPC is not a good run defense. Average or maybe slightly above if that.

A meh running game like the Pats have got 5 YPC on them. Also 180 yards allowed to the 49ers and 130 to the Titans. GoOD RuN DeFeNsE

Because Maye was clearly better. Yet, they started Brissett anyways. Now, they are going to Maye after the predictable struggles with Brissett.

Maye wasn’t “better.” Better arm for sure, but I went to multiple open practices this offseason. He couldn’t line the offense up properly without incurring a penalty. He had no command of the huddle or offense. Whether he does now is debatable, but he didn’t then.

This isn’t surprising considering he was 21 years old, had only started two college seasons and hadn’t taken a snap under center his entire college career.

Make no mistake… not playing Maye for the first month was the smartest thing the collaboration station could have done. Whether he is ready now is another story…

Regardless, it was the right decision. Give the kid some time to see how different the NFL is. See the speed of the game, how much harder it is to diagnose defenses, how much tighter the windows to throw are, etc. I still stand by their call to start JB

I'm thinking of some of those early Bradshaw lowlights with the Steelers. It doesn't matter if we lose 50-0 every week, the important thing is Maye getting experience. It's a rough sport so if somebody's afraid of getting hurt they shouldn't be out there at all.

It's interesting you mentioned Bradshaw. I told someone that Maye reminded me of Bradshaw. He is kind of aw shucks, gee whiz, Opie kind of guy. We'll see if he can be compared to Bradshaw skill wise.
