Greg Bedard skewers AVP

« they » or the GM ? I don’t know the level of involvement of AVP in the acquisition of players. I’m not saying he had no input, but rather I don’t know how much say he had…
I hold the GM accountable for player acquisition and coach hiring.
I have never believed it is a valid response for a coach to say it’s not my fault the players suck.

I thought I was the only one who says that Mayo is frank!

Weird. I never said « AVP said his players suck ». I’m saying it.

Well, saying it for him, and making it his excuse, is basically the same thing. Or at least that’s what I was referring to.

Oh i agree with you. On maye it's not about rushing him. If you saw post I had mentioned when we get back Strange, Sow and Lowe we would be more at least better off playing Drake then. Understand this. There's is nothing to be gained by playing Jacoby. Nothing!! We can loose playing Drake.. we need to see our future now.. Bill did let the team bottom out. That's why we have Drake!
BB did not let the team bottom out. It fell apart, he kept on trying to put band aids on it. By bottoming out and building I mean trading present picks for future picks.

If they replace him, a young dude a la kingsbury, Dan Campbell, or other new young mind would be awesome. Maybe in 2 years.

I don't like starting Maye behind this Line. I wanted him to start one game before the bye, then use that bye week as a teaching week, before the rest of the season.
He's been learning ever since he's been here, they see him in practice and know better than we do if he's the better option over Brisket.

By all accounts Maye has been lighting it up in practice. Whether Maye is up to the original expectations of the plan or not, the team needs to put Maye in there before the players really question why they are risking their future by playing hard if the best QB is held back to protect him. A better bridge QB would have delayed the change to allow more development time, I am glad that Drake had a few games to observe and even a few on field plays. Putting him in now when the team is still trying will energize the whole team.

If there's little change in trajectory, it will be much sooner. The wildcard is Kraft's ego: Mayo is his hand-picked successor, and he's going to have a hard time admitting he made such a devastating error. If he had humility, I would be more certain about the timeline. Still, he's a good businessman, and those instincts might win out.

They can't put you on your ass in practice. Practice pressure isn't game pressure. I bet Tony Eason lit it up in practice. We will see if he can take lots of hits, get back up and play well. Hope so.

Note: Other instincts have been winning out in recent years.

Leverett is the real concern right now in pass pro.

There is no doubt that practice is not the same as games. The point that I was trying to make is that all the other players see practice and want Maye to start. If management continued to stick with Jackoby the whole team would quit. FWIW, I expect Maye to be inconsistent and the team to continue to lose more than they win. The optics and attitude will be much better which should build momentum into next year.

Agreed, that's why they just signed a new center and have been giving other centers on the team more reps in practice. They're going to throw whatever they can find at it and see what sticks.

Yep; meanwhile this front orifice continues to ****-around the position with these signings of inexperienced, marginal talents.

How about instead if someone upstairs goes on-line, looks up Best Available Centers and signs one of those guys?

In the words of John & Yoko: All I am saying, is give Experience a chance…

Don't be concerned. Remember when the guys upstairs signed Okorafor and said he was a LT. Remember on draft night when the upstairs' guy told us that Wallace could easily switch to LT? We are in good hands. Drink a beer and witness the amazing that is about to happen.

Who's out there right now other than marginal talent? They missed their window in the offseason.
