I completely disagree. SF transitions to a cover 2 at the snap with Warner in MOF. The upper CB vacates his post because he knows JB isn't looking at Polk and never will. Why? He and Warner have done their homework on JB and know that once JB starts tracking a receiver he will lock his eyes and not go to the next read. Warner lets Polk whip right by him because JB has telegraphed that he has chosen Thorton's post route. This is also why the upper CB doesn't bother with Polk because they know from watching tape that JB will not progress once he locks and loads, because his processing speed is so poor.

The Bad-First 3rd down he had some time, stared down his first read, LB read his eyes jumped the throwing lane, Jacoby waited until wr cleared the LB, wr was covered well, and Jacoby threw it too low, jut to the left of the LB that he led to the route. He had 3, yes 3, better options on that play. Everything you want to do wrong as a QB on third and 3 he did, killed the series. He also could have run for the first.
-On the Pick, defense totally fooled him, they overloaded the right side of line with a fake blitz, so Jacoby moved the RB from his left to right, leaving Jacobs on Bosa with no help. They rush 4, no overload, people drop out. Jacoby stares down TT on the deep in-cut, LB reads it, again, and Jacoby never sees him, and throws the pick as Bosa bears down. Polk is open with no one within 10 yards of him middle to right for a catch and run probably a 30 yard play, DD is similarly wide open. Again, can't be worse QB play. He killed 2 series that would probably been red zone series, possibly touchdowns and end up with a pick 6 and zero points so far. I won't go thru every horrible play but highlight one or 2 others. On the drive they turned over on downs, He took a sack on a scramble to the 30, he had time to throw, had Boutte wide open as first read for first down, stared at him, did not throw, rolled out and sacked. They are, worst case, first and 10 at the 15, maybe first and goal with YAC, another possible TD drive ends on downs. His pocket movement was bad, his feel for pressure, bad. 1/2 the 6 sacks he could have avoided.
Even the last play where Bosa strip sacked and caused a fumble. Yes, Bosa beat Jacobs, got to JB. JB never felt the pressure, never moved up in the pocket, how many times in pre-season and college did we see Maye feel the pressure move up and make a throw. I'm not even counting this as a sack Jacoby could avoid but he has Polk for a TD if he steps into the pocket and gets some separation from Bosa who only hits his arm on the ****ing of the arm. Good Qb's feel the pressure, step up and make the throw. I'm not counting this one but that's a 4th TD drive a good QB reasonably has in this game.

My one hope is that Maye is seeing all this with open eyes and understanding just how complex scheming can be in the NFL. If he is doing due diligence, there is a lot for him to take from this game, in terms of mental reps.

Right now it is very hard to think any of the drafted QB's this year will end up being better than Daniels who is tearing it up at an insanely high rate.

After the draft I did say I expected Daniels to have the best rookie season of all QB's and Nabors or him would be ROY but that Maye will have better careers than Daniels. Daniels has an elite talent in running that always immediately translates to the NFL.

He's also had about 5 seconds in the pocket with every drop back against AZ. He's been able to make 95% easy first read throws and use is running.
His BTT% is a paltry 1.8%. Josh Allen is 9.3%
He's hit a few difficult throws, but also missed more of the non-easy throws than he's hit. If he can more consistently hit the Throws further down the Field it takes away his biggest weakness, just haven't seen it yet. He was more accurate in the short game the last 2 games and if that improves it makes some of the issues throwing down the field less important.

Daniels had 2 great throws against Cincy which was his best game. He had zero great throws against Arizona and only completed 3 good throws and the rest of his completions were easy. Those are 2 bad defenses. When pressured his stats go way, way down, more than an average QB, he just has not seen enough pressure.

BUT I can't 100% knock him for making easy throws and running at an elite level, no reason for him to do anything other than what he did the last 2 games. What has really been impressive is the way he carries himself on the field, he looks like he belongs, he looks like a 10-year vet in demeanor and confidence. I love when he runs, for enjoyment's sake, just glides, accelerates like nothing.

He's always going to have to run a TON to be a good QB, How many of those guys break down? Almost all of them, even the large ones like Cam Newton. Lamar Jackson had several season where could not stay healthy. These are big strong guys. Daniels is averaging more runs than any of them per game. He's almost double Josh Allen.
Maye might play 15-20 years, Daniels might break down in 5-6.

Saints, Bears and Bucs are only top 10 defenses he faces all year. He did not play great against the Bucs, 1 garbage time drive padded the stats. Interesting to see him against the Bears and Saints. Ravens/Browns are OK and better than terrible defenses in Cincy and Arizona (terrible defensive game plan BTW)

He's throwing slightly better than I expected and running as I expected.
I'd just like to see him have to make more than 1 or 2 tough throws to win a game.

I think this is the point; JB has opportunities he cannot execute.

You completely disagree Polk is open, then give a pretty good (seriously, good stuff) explanation of why he was open. It's a little confusing.

I disagree that Polk would have gotten the touchdown if JB had thrown him the ball. My argument is that the CB vacated Polk so quickly because he has studied JB's tendencies.

My guess is that they thought JB would start the season as a servicable placeholder, but had no idea how badly he would regress, especially behind a terrible OL.

Yes our OL is terrible but at times he had a little more time than usual but he just doesn't trust his arm past Ten Yards.

Not running more motion and tub of lard Onwenu not being able to execute outside zone runs is only highlighting Brissett’s inability to do check downs. A good outside zone running attack that stresses a defense horizontally tends to open up seams for the pass, esp after play action. Maybe, as Onwenu continues to lose weight and get into better shape, this will improve.

There is ONE primary cause of the horrible performance of the Offense: Brissett. No matter when Mayo decides to allow Maye to play, that will be the issue.

Let's stop blaming the OL, an injured group that starts with below average talent.

I feel like we need to sacrify Brissett to the football gods so they can stop injuring all of our key players so the line can at least settle . I feel like every game that Brissett start something bad will happen to this team !

I'm glad I was not the only who realize how Fat Onwenu got that was why he dropped in his Draft. The guy looks like he doesn't miss a meal he's getting into Steve Big House Moore territory I am sure some of you old goats remember him.

I don't agree take L Robinson out of the Starting line-up OL improves right away he's not ready for primetime.

Lowe - Sow - Leverett - Onwenu - Wallace.

That shouldn't be an abysmal OL if we help the LT C Wallace should be more comfortable @ RT. Our Coaches are kidding themselves the guys are there they are just playing people out of position L Robinson @ RG and M Onwenu @ RT is a handicap. I think in a year Robinson might be a little better but he's not good right now.
