Greg Bedard: Pats coaching staff already at a troubling crossroads

What, people that play a highly competitive game having an emotional reaction to watching the person that touches the ball every play sucks. Not a lot different than when TFB would yell and side eye WRs and had screaming matches with coaches. But Bedards energy was much different then.

I am not throwing shade at any of them, because it is an emotional game.

I think they need to be given time. And things can't last forever. Patriots were a dynasty type team for 20 years. They had a generational QB. Best HC. Best owner. A down period was inevitable.

Right now, the Chiefs have all that. Ultimately, things will eventually change. KC won't be great anymore. A rebuild will be necessary. It happens to every team. It happened to the 60's Packers. 70's Steelers. 49ers after Young. Cowboys after Jimmy.

Maybe it will take Mayo time to get things in order. Put his stamp on the team.

These guys, especially like Pop and Polk, have careers to build. I'd be mad if the sole means I have in securing my next contract were squandered by poor team management. It's easy for us as fans (and even then, yeeeeeeeesh I'm having a hard time) to just play the long game, but that doesn't exist in the NFL. Good team or not your chances are rough in having a long career, let alone when you're in a dumpster fire that couldn't even give you garbage time passing yards.

Some shut down this argument with "oh boohoo, here's $9 mil reasons I don't care" but that does not matter because the player does.

dont think bedard said anything which hasn't been noticed and said here... so this shouldn't be much of a surprise to hear it

He detailed where AVP and Covington are screwing up and how Mayo's "kinder/gentler" approach has caused on-field discipline issues. The fact things have worsened every week since Cincy is troubling. Sunday vs. a Miami team in disarray looms as a huge must-win.

There has been a real lack of focus lately... Could almost excuse the performance vs the jete given the short week etc... but 10 days later it looked more of the same

They concluded it’s a clown show organization. I haven’t heard anyone say that.

Heaven forbid, the exact verbiage has not been used... Whatever shall we do...

Bedard rolls around in the negativity like a dog in the fall leaves. He's the new Shank.

Well he is certainly no longer a ray of sunshine... maybe if we catch a break this week, play some disciplined football, things wont look as bleak as they currently do

I guess I'm a glass half full guy. I know it sucks, tell me why it might not be as bad as it currently looks. I am looking for optimism, not the sky is falling.

It's pretty early to be at a crossroads, but I think as things get worse, they're going to find out who are the guys who are buying in and who aren't. They're going to decide if the coordinators and positional coaches are good fits or not. There are so many new people in new roles. Not all of them are going to work out and there's a steep learning curve to it. In the offseason, Mayo and Wolf need to show there's a real plan to stick with what is working and improve what isn't working. That might mean that next year there are some new coaches and moving on from some players. Because if they don't show improvement from this year, they're really going to start feeling the heat.

Lose 1/2 your already poor offensive line. Lose your defensive captain. Lose your defensive studs. Stick with a qb who is mediocre at best so the rookie qb might not get frazzled. Some of this isn't their fault, some of it is. Time to get their heads out of their asses and start playing to win.

Because Jacoby will not be the starter by the end of the season

Because Mayo will learn some tough lessons and we will be better disciplined

Well, not from you, bud. From one of the guys covering the team.

I disagree. He knows his stuff and actually does give credit where credit is due. He has praised the Patriots special teams coach, both kickers and players like Peppers, for example.

Unfortunately, Mayo was dealt a bad hand. Belichick really left this team in shambles. Years of bad drafting and his refusal to spend to fix the offense when he had a chance has made this one of the least talented teams in the league.

I think picking Brissett was a mistake by Wolf. I think it was important to have a QB who could start while developing Maye, but he was just the wrong guy. His processing speed is too slow for a team with a horrible o-line.

And free agency didn't help since the free agent market sucked and the best players were on defense at positions where the Pats didn't think they needed any help.

I think Mayo needs time to prove he can do it.

Who knows if Mayo is a good coach or not, but few or no coaches could succeed with the hand Mayo has been dealt.
