Breer made the argument that if they weren't letting injury decide, they would sign another vet QB to be the backup in case of Brissett injury. So I think you might be right there.
*Ahem* see my post above.

I'm sorry to have posted something that confirmed what you were saying 20 seconds after you posted it?

That's true, but there weren't a ton of better QBs on the market, though. Darnold only looks good now. Dalton is a high-tier backup, same as Brissett. There was Cousins, but no one wanted to pay for a big contract if we were drafting a rookie. Who else should we have gotten?
You could have had Baker Mayfield with a godfather offer. But, you know, gotta keep that 50 million.

I was of a similar opinion that other than Baker or Kirk Jacoby was as good as any other option. Turns out that was completely wrong.

Getting caught up on a couple pages but I find a couple of examples interesting:

Bringing up Luck who clearly got beat to **** is interesting because as it was pointed out he was mentally able to handle it and still perform he just physically couldn't hold up.

Bringing up Jimmy is interesting as he was very well seasoned and ready to go when he got his chance and it still didn't prevent him from breaking down physically. Which in his case I do think started wearing on him mentally.

All that to say there isn't some perfect blue print for these sorts of things. And all you can do is what you think is best for your QB and team at the time. And with that one could still say play him or sit him plenty of reasons for either.

I just get the feeling that out of fear they are just going to let injury dictate it to them rather than just having some conviction to play him or to sit him.
Yeah I am a little lost. I originally posted in response to folks saying that if you put a guy out there as a rookie and he takes too many hits it may "ruin him" mentally. I said that he has already taken tons of hits, in college last year, so it's not some foreign thing to him like it was for someone like Mac Jones or Bryce Young both coming out of Alabama. But then Andrew Luck is brought up... who took too many hits for several years... and was mentally just fine, but physically destroyed. That's not what was being discussed at all, though. Certainly if Drake is still getting wallopped in 3 years like Luck dealt with then we have bigger, different issues that are the fault of the front office.

Mayfield re-signed with Tampa before free agency.

When it's 21-3 Niners early 3rd quarter we might see Maye on Sunday.
He looked like **** last Thursday night IMO.
I would wait till week 5 but who knows

Yeah, they're likely to give him playing time if any game is out of reach at this point.

By my recoining Mayfield was never coming to the Pats in a month of Sunday's. So put your 50 million back in your pocket

IMHO, Mayeo has no input on when Maye playes as the starter. FO will decide and there will be game plan built. So-so & Lo-lo are almost ready to play and that maye have something to do with it. Mayebe knot. Until it does happen, I don't want to sound like a whiny biatch when Maye doesn't playe.
No imput? I think he has plenty of input. He's going along with the "plan".. he knows he's still getting his feet wet as a HC.. so he has to go along to get along.. however I believe we'll be seeing maye sooner than later.

Same as KC. Their OTs are turnstiles, but Mahomes is quick processing the play and getting the ball out.

Plus, Defenses fear Mahomes because of his arm.
They need to get it cleaned up though. They got their asses kicked in the Super Bowl against TB because their OL wasn't good. It could catch up to them at some point. There could be some team in the AFC or NFC that has a pass rush that ends up exploiting it. Even Tom in 2019 got to a point where he started throwing many passes in the dirt because he didn't trust the OL and/or WR's.

So his input is going along with the plan? He's married to to the idea of "input" but is just going along with his work wife for the sake of the family.

I am not as worried about Maye turning into Mac Jones or Tony Eason and be afraid of his own shadow and freak out whenever there is pressure. I am worried that he develops bad habits or turns into something close to Zach Wilson who is completely undisciplined and make stupid decisions instead of making the fast smart plays.

Shame on Wolf and Mayo for not keeping Lowe, Sow, Jordan, Strange and even Wallace healthy!

Personally, I've enough of the continuing BS that the team would be much better had we drafted the best OT available at 34 and the best WR available with our 3rd rounder. This was NOT gross incompetence on the part of Wolf. Yes, folks here are frustrated. But the draft choice in the 2nd and 3rd were arguably reasonable. I suspect that over the next 3 years, we will be better with Polk, Wallace and Baker, than the highest rated OT available at 34 and the highest rated WR in Round 2.
=====================
Let's be very clear.

Lowe-Sow/Jordan/Strange-Andrews-Sow/Robinson/Thomas-Onwenu

is indeed a below average NFL OL. HOWEVER, it is good enough for a 4-win team to be able to show considerable improvement in 2024. Personally, I believe that if Lowe and Sow are healthy for MIA, we have a good chance of winning.

WE haven't seen THAT yet but fingers are crossed for a sideboob of improvement.

Your right. Becuase of the factors I mentioned.. Mayo's smart enough to realize that he needs to be on the same page... at least for now. Mayo likely wanted Drake to start but he knows his offensive line isn't good.

I wonder if there's something to the coaches attempting to instill discipline onto Maye? It's one thing to say "You won't play until you do these things right" rather than "You're the starter, but try to get your footwork right".
