Coaching Them Up For A Month Or Two

How can he not know it well enough yet?
He need rudimentary understanding of the run plays that he would have had a week into camp.
He needs to understand the routes and his progressions on maybe 30 pass plays.
If he doesn’t know the terminology yet and can’t grasp the above, he may be a dummy.
I am sure Brissett is going to be pulled for ineffectiveness I don't think what we saw in the Preseason is a abberation. We saw a similar struggle with Mac in Preseason 23 and it came to fruition in the regular season.

I do believe we were seeing improvement with Lowe, Sow, Robinson and Wallace.
Onwenu has made some mistakes, but has been very solid
We haven't seen much on Andrews
when healthy and with a few games under their belts, I expect this OL to be playing very well.
Hopefully they play the QB who can attack all levels of the Defense even a vanilla Defense can take away the Short passing game or the middle of the field.

My opinion is they currently have 2 nfl caliber starting linemen in Andrews and Onwenu. My hope is that either or both Robinson and Wallace will develop as the season progresses so that we can envision them being mainstays in the future. I don't have much hope for Chukes and Lowe and I view Sow as a backup.

I think Elliot made a mistake in the offseason thinking they had quality nfl linemen.

If the offense struggles as expected, I will roll my eyes if I hear or read talk of a need for a number 1 receiver or better play calling and offensive scheme.
I'm hoping they will have 2 first round picks next year and will invest both in the O line.

I also hope I'm wrong!

Just like last year, undone by injuries.

From Patriots.com:

"During the media's limited practice window this week, the Patriots were preparing with the following offensive line: LT Chuks Okorafor, LG Michael Jordan, C David Andrews, RG Layden Robinson, and RT Mike Onwenu."

Wow... This is really something

Swap Jordan out for Sow or Strange and this line should honestly be fine… they’ll make mistakes but I also think they will be fairly good in the run game. Once they gel and get comfortable, might not be a big deal? Jordan isn’t terrible reserve depth either really.

What in the ever living F$@k are they doing?
How can this possibly be a reasonable take? What franchise willingly gives up half their season because they EXPECT that they can’t figure out how to put ANYWHERE NEAR FUNCTIONAL professional players on the field?
They didn't willingly give it up: they likely misjudged BADLY.

How did I know this would be your OL thread #5,832

Trey Hendrickson can make good LTs look bad so I can only imagine what he will do to Chuks. Chuks looked decent in the Washington preseason game aside from lining up. He blocked fairly well, but that was against lesser competition.

Most posters believe that we need above average starters. Otherwise, we have the worst OL in the NFL. The average of the quality of 4/5 of the OL is probably already above average. If not, it should be after a few games.

The BOTTOM LINE for posters is quite simple. In evaluating the Ol, look no further than LT; the other positions matter very little. We are in a distinct minority in accepting Scar's assessment that the key to understand that out LT needs help and that we need provide him that help.
=================
YES, WE NEED A STARTING LEFT TACKLE

We have two above average starting OL's. They were extended.

We have two starting OL's that have been judged to be among the very best rookie OL's drafted, one after a year of production last year, one after a pre-season this year.

We even drafting an average starting LG two seasons ago. He will compete for a job when he comes back.

Finally, we drafted a prospect who will be at least a solid backup RT and might even grow to be a starter.

But this is not near enough for us to be even the 25th best line. We are the worst, the worst in many, many years. NOT!

Picking a backup in the 3rd round is a failure.

Who cares? The OL still sucks and needs to be a LOT better if we want to have any success. Maye is not Mahomes or Brady or P Manning.

Very Few thought that the OL would be anywhere near functional to start the season.

Didn't most of us expect it to take until mid-season (Game 9)? Game 5 would have been considered hugely optimistic.

Perhaps, just perhaps, the coaching staff can have Okorafor ready to be a marginally competent LT, with Wallace as a RT and Love or Jacobs as a swing backup.

Is that wildly possible after 8 games? Scar believes in the OL coaching staff. Perhaps, we should also.

After that debacle against Philly I can understand why people have little to no faith in the OL or OL coaching staff, I will give them a couple of months to get it together. If they can do it then it will have to start with the run game, because they are screwed if they are 3rd and long all season.

Is it not their job to make sure they have an OL?
Are you seriously telling me they should have been confident that they fad a great plan at T?

Okorafor was benched for sucking in pitt
Anderson was recovering from malaria and heart issues
Lowe stinks
Wallace never played LT on his life.

It’s like your arguing they made a whole bunch of bad decisions so that excuses them.

My point remains how is it anything but abject negligence by the front office and cus hung staff to walk into a season with the OL not even hoping to be ANYWHERE NEAR FUNCTIONAL.
Maybe they're tanking.

Cant be too upset with the first real game performance. Took advantage of the bengals run d as they should have. Pass protection could have been better but it was an improvement over the preseason. Maybe the coaching is adequate here? We all know this area is a work in progress and im pretty satisfied with the progress to this point.

Hope for the next month or so:

-Sow can return and upgrade LG.
- lowe gets healthier and continues to improve. Clearly he wasn’t 100% yet today if they started chuks at LT and threw lowe in afterwards.
-Wallace or okorafor sliding back to his natural rt position solidly that spot and allow onwenu back at rg
- If you don’t get the rt progress and onwenu has to stay, layden becomes more consistent at rg. Still having ups and downs

Let Robinson learn through his ups and downs. Then we'll have a solid starter for 3 more years.

The issue for me is backup LT. Lowe is our starter.

If you look up disaster in the dictionary, you will see the Titanic, Hindenburg, and todays Okorafor performance. Lowe was better, but still not very good. Other 4 were at worst fine. Thought Wallace looked good as the 6th OL.

Yeah, right now we are in trouble if lowe can’t play. Need jacobs or maybe even wallace to be able to play.

I wonder if chuks gets another shot at rt until wallace is ready. He did ok there preseason. Otherwise hopefully robinson can improve, i feel like he could be more than solid!

Both the offensive and defensive lines manhandled the Bengals who looked like the un-prepared team on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if the Seahawks come in as soft as the Bengals up front. If the lines can have back-to-back solid performances, we have to hand it to the coaches and the players for the hard work they put in to be ready for the regular season. Getting Sidy Sow on offense and Barmore on defense will be huge.

The Right Side looks Ironed out to me I would just play Onwenu @ RT if Robinson is comfortable @ RG. Let Lowe and Wallace spilt the Reps @ LT not the worse situation. We have Sow and Strange coming back we are not as bad as perceived if everybody is healthy. Lowe played decent against a Very Good DE time to dump that Garbage Chuckwuma Oakafor.

I would hold onto okorafor personally for now. He cant play LT but hes been serviceable on the right side if needed. Ideally wed like to see cadean take over there so onwenu can move back to guard. Still time to find our best combo
