I know that we can start signing veterans immediately.

When will we know which waiver claim players were awarded to us?

As I understand, we would need to cut down to 53 by 4PM tomorrow, I suppose we could claim someone and then cut him tomorrow. After all, I could see us putting in several claims.

We have about a dozen players that no one would miss.

NFL teams have until noon tomorrow to make waiver claims. Should find out within an hour after that who got who.

The Panthers get to claim everybody that they want, so they can leak it to the media whenever. We might be able to rule out some Patriots targets before noon.

Do the teams maintain their waiver priority no matter how many guys they claim, or does it work like a fantasy football waiver where once you claim your #1 priority, you move to the bottom of the list?

You keep your priority.

If the Panthers see 53 guys on waivers that they'd rather have than anyone on their roster, then they can make 53 claims and get them all.

But that's an interesting idea.
As the NFL more and more embraces fantasy football, they may want to implement rules to better emulate it!

Here's my scraping the bottom of the barrel list of free agent linemen released yesterday the Pats should bring in for a look. No, I'm not saying they're great or even good, but when you've blundered the offseason at OL so badly... this is what you're reduced to.

I tried to limit my search to teams with good/great O-Lines, with a knack for finding talented linemen:

Josh Ball OT Cowboys
Jake Witt OT Colts
Sebastian Gutierrez OT 49ers
Henry Byrd OT Vikings
Max Scharping OT Eagles
Josiah Ezirim OT Saints
Garret Greenfield OT Seahawks

Jason Poe OG/C Eagles
Duke Clemens C Lions
Lorenzo Thompson OG Browns
Jarrett Kingston OG 49ers
Dakoda Shepley OG Cowboys
Donovan Jennings OG Packers

It probably makes way more sense in fantasy, where guys on the waiver wire are potentially top players (since there's only ~12 teams and far fewer players per team). In the NFL, if Carolina wants to fill their 53 with waiver wire guys, no one else is gonna lose a lot of sleep over it.

To add: the current order holds through the end of Week 3. Then it switches to this year's standings.

Yes please I'll take 6

Here is the question. If Lowe, Jordan, Leverette were on that list would they be claimed ahead of these guys?

Any competent tackles that are mediocre would do! Mediocre would be an upgrade to what we have now.

Yikes. Can't see any of these people being better than what we already have. The only person who I've seen who is worth picking up is Geron Christian. The only problem is that Washington, who is ahead of us on the claims order, is also hunting for OL pickups.

I suspect that Leverett would be claimed ahead of most of these players, and that Lowe and Jordan would not be claimed.

But, yes that is indeed the question before the staff.

Always have to consider that any player you bring in now is only going to have a week and a half to get up to speed before week 1. With that handicap are these players upgrades? The answer may still be yes, but it's a bigger factor than people may want to admit. I think we're stuck with who we have for starters, at least for the early part of the season. The hope would be these guys improve the backup/depth options and (if they're any good) win the starting job after the first month or so.

I think Leverett may be the worst of them. He was thrown around like a rag doll by backups and can’t figure out how to snap.

They don’t have to play week 1. There are 8(?) inactives and usually a couple active OL who don’t get in the game except a few special teams snaps.

Players are not being picked up only in order to play Game One.
=================
However, picking up a LT and waiving a DB, won't affect Game One, unless Lowe can't play in which case the LT might play, backing up Okorafor.

So, you think that it would take a veteran half the season to where he is playing better at LT than Lowe, or better than Okorafor? I suspect that this isn't the case.

The bottom line is our players are not as good as the other teams we will be playing, so we need to get better players. We slept through free agency so this is the last chance. Thankfully these waiver claims will be cheap and could even supplant a guy who makes more, so Thunder might allow it.
