Agreed. Everyone posts about getting Lowe back at LT like it is a good thing. Okorafor was signed to be the LT. Wallace was drafted to be the LT - our GM told us that on draft night. Now we are hoping Lowe will start. This is a really bad situation.
since 2000.

If there was any coaching focus on the team, the OL would not have looked like it did last night. Let's hope Captain Andrews is back so he can be the coach.
I agree. But that's exactly why he was frustrated it was a **** show with the line no denying that. Mayo took accountability. Exactly what you want from your HC. I think that's a little harsh.. let's wait until mid season to judge mayo fairly.

8 wins after what you just witnessed?
My realistic expectations isn't W-Ls, it's player progression. I want to see Maye eventually take over and show he can run the offense. I want to see a solid core of WRs who can play in that offense. I want to see who is capable on the line (and if the OL coach can pull it together) and who we need to replace next offseason. And I want to see if the defense can continue to be a strength with the losses in coaching.

You can’t make this sh*t up.

Every day he is flip flopping
I think he is realizing that if he fails to field a competitive team his job might be (and should be) in jeopardy.

WTF makes Maye so special that he should be babied all year while we are forced to watch some sucker running for his life?

Find out what we have in Maye. Odds are against him being a savior. Find out so we know what we have before we pick 1st overall next year.

Neither have I, because I’ve known all along that he should be on the 53. Drake will get seriously injured if he plays behind this OL. There is no reason to send him out there.
Zappe should start the first 4 games. Don't expose Maye, forget about Brissett and Milton.

We can judge Mayo's performance now and at mid-season and at the end of the season. Mayo's preseason grade is a F.

Ok. I think Mayo's done a great job so far. I've heard nothing but excellent things about him from insiders around the team. He will adjust like all coaches do during the season. He and his staff have gotten maye to develop far sooner than anyone had hoped and will likely be the starter.. in case people forgot this a 4-13 team that is rebuilding. This is year 1..

A 4-13 team with a great defense, the #3 pick in the draft, and the most cap space in the NFL. Actually a great starting point to rebuild.

What's going to change after 4 games? Besides the season being already over at 0-4?

Eff this awful organization for hiding their incompetence by not even trying to compete. Flush them all.

What sucks the most is that after all this we are stuck with a nepo baby as our next owner.

Maye was very impressive in the way he navigates a trashed pocket. He is not as accurate as Mac Jones but way more mobile and has a rocket arm.

I'm starting to think it's not the OL players, per se. Peters is the Fifth F'ing OLine coach in 5 years. There's no consistency to build upon concepts from year to year since Dante left, although CPop and CBric had sortof worked in the OL system before they took over, which is probably why they weren't gang-green-terrible in 2020 and 2021.

There were moments during all the preseason games, but they were all against backups. I award them no points, and may God have mercy on their souls.

What the hell was Pop Douglas doing out there in a preseason game? His first catch was an under-thrown pass from Maye (yup) and Pop took a shot to the head. It should have been flagged and this is not good for Douglas. He caught some other passes from Maye, making me think he was the only guy open. Ugh. Pop is not going to last the whole season if this keeps up--he has a big bullseye on his helmet--you can be sure that the game plan for defenses will be to injure him or concuss him.

And what the hell was Douglas doing catching a kick...in a preseason game!

Last night went way beyond a talent issue, all those penalties and mental errors is coaching.

I would feel so much better about if if they were just getting beat for talent in a 1 on 1 passrush situation.
That Brisk sack where people were moving like 5 year old kids playing soccer bouncing into each other looked offensive.

You have some here that just are waiting for anything to dump on mayo. Your right. And coach alluded to that last night, he said he takes accountability and the coaching needs to be better starting with him. That's what you want to here from your HC.

I would consider it a successful year 1 if

- Maye continues to impress even if its limited action

- Bourne, Polk, Douglas, Thornton prove to be a solid wr set.

- Solidify 4 of the 5 OL spots heading into the 2025 offseason. Onwenu, andrews , sow, i feel good with. Plus strange returning or wallace/anderson being ready. Based on how the offense looks Will Campbell OT LSU should be in our reach. Then you just need a swing T and backup C.

- defense is close to what it was in 23. Will be tough without barmore but youd hope to have him back in 25.

We would be competing next year if all works out.

Agreed and the mantra that Mayo will play the best player independent of outside circumstances will be tested. Everyone knows Maye outplayed Brissett, so by Mayo's logic, he has to play Maye over Brissett. But is playing a 21 year old QB really the smart thing?
Outside influence will play a role on who is the QB.

Kraft wants butts in the seats and a full stadium. Krafts wants to look right on selecting Maye and Mayo. It's far more acceptable losing with Maye than Brisset. Fans realize that Maye is a rookie and learning the NFL game. Brisett losing will only raise questions why Maye isn't starting.

I'd rather see Maye good or bad because he needs 3 full seasons to evaluate whether the Pats keep him or move on.

It's possible things could change. Perhaps there will be some waiver wire signings that get up to speed by then and there is improvement. Or the coaches make progress. Or Scar makes one last triumphant return like Larry Bird against the Pacers, saving the season. Yes, all are unlikely, especially the last. Consider 4 games as a checkpoint.
