I think a lot of it is the oline musical chairs. You can't expect someone to be competent at a position if more than half his practice snaps are at other positions. Flexibility and trying to find the right combo is one thing, what we saw all through camp was bordering on madness. Coming out of the last preseason game with 4 oline positions that can be shuffled any which way is not normal.

At least now they'll be sticking to something that the big guys can settle into.
Yeah, that's my hope. Hopefully Sow isn't out for long and the four or five best guys can gel into an adequate line. But anytime a backup has to go in, I'm going to be waiting for disaster.

I'm pretty sure that BB's the one getting criticized. Didn't Doug Pederson recently take a jab at him re Mac Jones?
I didnt see it and Pederson was fired too.

What about when Maye took off and ran on 3rd and long?

Yeah its vs backups, but nevertheless it was a good decision made in micro seconds.
Maye is young and he can run Biscuit is a statue back there useless.

ALL coaches get get overwhelmed. Becuase a coach has coaching experience does not always permeate to success. I didn't see it this way. Mayo seemed frustrated by the sloppy play and penalties. It happened plenty under Bill. It's pre season. Let's wait until week 6,7 to see...
Mayo has never gone through being the leader of the entire team.

Now, he is responsible for the play of all 53 players. Knowing how to try and fix problems on the fly comes with experience.

I thought that it was refreshing and in sync with todays game. That run is there on so many 3rd downs. You see Mahomes take it all the time to extend drives which is a killer for a defense when it appears that they have the offense stopped.

Why? He's not going to learn by watching Jalopy Brissett clunk his way around. Waiting will delay Maye's development.
I'll take a delay rather than serious injury. I can't imagine he lasts 17 games behind this line, and if he does, his body will have taken 3 seasons worth of beating.

Daniels and Caleb can already do it it's part of their overall games.

The Pats are rebuilding from the bottom.

4 - 8 wins this season and another decent draft slot.

Lets just hope that OL performance can be chalked up to experimentation, leverett who should hopefully not see another snap at c, and rookie mistakes from robinson. Honestly thought in the first 2 games they were not that bad at least in pass protection and it was more of a seperation problem with the wideouts. This game was clearly a cluster on the OL. Backup center should be among the priorities right now, you just can’t have any of these as next man up if andrews goes down. Maybe michael jordan needs to be your top reserve at guard as robinson doesn’t look ready at all. Was worth it to try this combo out with onwenu at rt but i think you need to open with lowe-sow-andrew-onwenu-chuks.

Obviously Maye was the bright spot. His poise, pocket awareness, and arm strength is already miles ahead of anything we’ve seen since Brady. I was amazed how many throws, even the incompletions, he was able to stand tall and delivered a strong ball despite what looked like a caving pocket. Very nice suprise to see that this early. Polk looked good. Osborn finally makes a play though it came back. Baker made some nice grabs and continues to show little glimpses of what he can bring especially if he holds on to some of these, but still looks a ways away from really producing.

We weren’t going to fill all the holes created in one offseason. Hopefully maye and the younger wr’s are as advertised and we allow ourselves to fully prioritize OL next year. Getting strange back and/or one of wallace /robinson working out by next year would go a long way as well and really just have us needing to get that LT plus some depth pieces.

OL's a mess. Maye looked good. Milton was disappointing. So what's up with Zappe who basically didn't get a chance? Is it because he's a known quantity?
Yep. He sealed a spot on the 53 as soon as Jacoby went down, and it really doesn’t matter if JB is ready for the opener. They will need at least 3 QBs to survive this OL, and Milton definitely isn’t ready, but he won’t be cut either.

I feel like C Wallace will be the eventual Starter at LT he's our only hope at the Position.
I don't think he's ready for LT but he might be the best anyways? Maybe Lowe has improved? I don't see anyone on the roster I'd trust at LT, Wallace should be groomed as the RT of the future, I think he has that skill.
In 2025 Get the LT in the draft, you then have Onwenu, Sow, Wallace (RT with a year under his belt), Drafted LT, and Andrews or a drafted/signed center. Robinson has a year to improve, and you also can add some depth in FA.
If they hit on the LT in 2025 draft they are in good shape despite the doom and gloom.

They need to help the LT this year, TE chips, RB chips, rollouts to the right etc. RT will be OK until Wallace is ready but is below league average there, but you can get away with it.

That may be true. Kraft knows this... all of the responsibilities hasn't been put on mayo. Mayo's focused on the team and management of the roster and growing players.

Agreed and the mantra that Mayo will play the best player independent of outside circumstances will be tested. Everyone knows Maye outplayed Brissett, so by Mayo's logic, he has to play Maye over Brissett. But is playing a 21 year old QB really the smart thing?

If there was any coaching focus on the team, the OL would not have looked like it did last night. Let's hope Captain Andrews is back so he can be the coach.

That may have been one of the more depressing pre-season efforts I've seen. OL, why was Onwenu running into Sow early in the game? I missed how Onwenu ended up that deep. I lost confidence in Leverett. Robinson looked lost at times. Hopefully, Sow can play. I still think Sow, Andrews, Onwenu as an interior is the best place to start. Hope Lowe can make it back, put Okaforforfor (?) back at RT or maybe Wallace. Tackles will have to be given some help. I hope we can pick up a Center that can snap the ball. I'm out on Jacoby. I would start Zappe at least the first four games, if he survived them. I'm out on Milton. If he can pass through to PS okay otherwise, I wish him well.
I like the 5 running backs. Baker will probably be a game time inactive. I prefer Boutte over Reagor. He is somewhat inconsistent but, he does get open, makes tough catches. Reagor is kind of a tease. I would still prefer Wilcox over Bell who could move to the PS. We will have to cut one capable linebacker and one SS. I think I would keep Giles-Harris and Pettus. Ellis and Bledsoe to PS. Roberts is gone. Don't know about Hill and Watts. At least I have seen Hill make a play. I don't remember seeing Watts on the field all pre-season. So, despite a bad taste in my mouth, the Defense has possibilities. RB, TE and WR positions can be competitive. It's the QB's and OL that are really holding us back. I don't want to expose Maye in the first 4 games. After that, I am the eternal optimist.

You seem like a good person. But we are clearly different. I’ve never once, since April, ‘wondered if there is still value in keeping Zappe around’.
Neither have I, because I’ve known all along that he should be on the 53. Drake will get seriously injured if he plays behind this OL. There is no reason to send him out there.
