Wolf on the OL: I *Think* We Have the Pieces to Compete... Oy Vey...

Dan Skipper, the top swing tackle for the Lions, was on the Colts PS last year before the Lions acquired him. We were struggling with Trent Brown’s absences and laziness. He was with the Patriots for 2018-19. The 6’10” guy has bounced around a ton. But he’s come into his own.

Skipper would have been an upgrade over McDermott. Missed opportunity I thought at the time and continue to harp on now.

I think he might want to rethink that a bit…

Not that our starting group will be confused with anything good but last night was not our starters.

Lowe/Sow/Andrews/Onwenwu/Chucks left to right should be our starters.

No Andrews or Lowe last night and Chucks and Onwenwu were out of position.

That said I'm up at 4 AM worrying about it. We definitely have a problem on our hands.

Lost a lot of respect for Wolf when he made that statement, he is either clueless or he is trying to sell us BS about this offensive line, me thinks the latter. The worst team defense in the league last year, sent out its backup squad, in a preseason game where you usually show vanilla looks, and they made the Pats look awful. Just wait till the regular season starts and everyone is dialing things up. Zero blitz here we come. No way i want Maye playing behind that line. But we may not have a choice when all our QBs start to go down. Where is Dante when we need him. We all focusing on thowing boatloads of money at elite WRs who don't want to be here and which QB is going to start. Well it won't matter who's at QB or which receivers we have if nothing changes with that O-line

Actually there is one silver lining about this happening last night on national TV. At least they still have a week's window to at least do something about it as roster cut downs start happening. Mayo/Wolf are going to be lucky if they are still here after this season..

"growing pains" is how I felt about the OL last night. Week 1 the line was meh... Week 2 there were signs of life with some better more consistent play... But last night was a gut wrenching experience...

Penalties, bad snaps, missed assignments... It really ran the gamut of things that could go wrong... And of course, it did go wrong... And the worst case scenario happened - two guys got hurt - Brisket and Sow...

Maybe it was just guys playing out of position or just back ups playing... But regardless I expecting more... Especially in light of Washington not playing defensive starters... wanted to see at least some semblance of competence... Yes there were good plays, and that is encouraging, but the sheer number of football follies we saw on the line last night was crushing... That's what will kill this teams' potential to be productive over the course of the season...

I don't know if bringing in guys axed on Tuesday in camp cut downs will help, but Wolf has to do something... At the very least we need a center to back up David Andrews... Leverette is not capable of that task... Vlad Ducasse, or if you want a NE reference , Marshall Newhouse levels of bad...

Sow was in a boot postgame so . . .

And it was against the backups of the 32nd ranked defense.

Poll:
How would you categorize GM Eliot Wolf's effectiveness addressing the Patriot OL?

1) Incompetence
2) Malpractice
3) Better than expected, given the tight-fisted approach of ownership
4) RLKAG......but still could assemble a better OL

****ing thank you. Took way too long to see this post
No did not expect him to say the O-Line sucks, there is defintely more politically correct way to say things. He could have said something along the lines of what Jerod Mayo said. That perhaps its a work in progress, its still under construction, we have a ways to go there... But "I think we have the pieces in place to be able to compete." because thats not just way over the top, its basically BS.
"Elliot Wolf is one of those guys that will pee on your leg and say its great"

Wait until you see what his inaction in doing anything on the other side of the ball does to the defense everyone expects to be good.

Two possibilities: 1) He actually believes this, which suggests a fireable level of ignorance, 2) He's lying to us, in which case to Hell with him.

I don't think he's up to the job. Do you?

This looks like the worst O-Line I’ve seen since 2000 with 2023 and 2019 as strong contenders.

But unlike the line Patricia year thinking he knew how to install zone blocking, you can see the change last night. However, these guys are not mobile enough to do it consistently. They’ve been having a hard time moving around.

I don’t care about Wolfe’s comment. What else is he going to say? “These guys are trash, we’re ****ed”?

However he did a piss poor job in improving it in the offseason. It got worse.
