Well the season is almost upon us, that means it is also the season for second guessing and 20/20 hindsight. Sure it is not fair and it is obnoxious, but wicked entertaining. My big question mark in the draft is why the Patriots took Polk instead of Mitchell. Mitchell appears to be the type of deep threat that the Patriots have not had in years, a player that can take the top off the defense by making the safeties hang back and open up the underneath for the slot receiver and the running game.

Supposedly Mitchell gave really bad interviews; we all know how valuable interviews are--look at what a great interviewer N'Keal Harry was . Anyway the Colts finally took a very PO'ed Mitchell late in the second. Now I don't know how well they evaluate WR talent, but they vehemently denied that there is any problem with Mitchell's attitude; they may have the steal of the draft.

We shall see. My impression is that Polk a fine possession receiver and would have been a great third or fourth round pick and Mitchell could have gone late in the first.

Patrick Paul or Kingsley Sumiata... give me the left tackle #2.

Mitchell will probably turn out to be a better WR than Polk, hell Javon Baker probably will also, but Adonai might also end up on a police blotter.. apparently he's a head case.

Fred one of the knocks on Ad Mitchell was that he body catches that turns me off from a WR. Give me a hands catcher any day over a body catcher. Really hope Mitchell corrects that you won't get away doing that against quality NFL CB's. Here's something for you Fred: you remember Mac Jones binky John Meachie?? He had some health issues after being Drafted costs him over a year. I hear he now has a clean bill of health and is in the mix on that WR Rich Texan Team: many here had him pegged for the Patriots when we had Mac Jones nice story.

I did not see any body catches in these highlights; nice hand grabs. But I did earlier a bit when he was with the Bulldogs. Polk has excellent hands, probably better than Mitchell, but he is not the same type of deep threat.

The knock on Mitchell was his attitude during interviews, but now he is mad enough to be solid citizen, at least this season. A few years hence, watch out, but the Colts may have gotten the steal of the draft.

I remember we could have drafted Ladd McConkey and moved down a few slots instead to pick Polk. How is McConkey doing?

Doing nothing, he has been hurt and barely on the field. Same as the wide receiver the 49ers also took in round 1.

Its going to sting seeing Paul be a stud LT anchor for the Dolphins for the next 10 years.

The Pats already have T -111 Thornton to take the top off defenses. What they did not have is a QB who can throw the ball that far. If T-111 does not show improvement this season, then its time to draft his replacement in 2025 as this team continues filling other holes in the roster.

Mitchell played opposite X Worthy who KC moved up to draft first. That explains alot why Mitchell had his best 3 year career numbers ever. Im fine with NE multi play drives as long as they result in TDs. So, the defense can rest. How many actual long bombs do teams throw in a game? The number is dwarfed by possession passes and shorter throws.

We don't know that, he's not even expected to play year 1, in exhibition he was a good run blocker, was bad as a pass blocker, little early to suggest he's a 10 year starter.

Yeah, if Miami can finally get their offensive line right they can go from a paper tiger that folds in the wildcard round to a real contender. It will add toughness to their team.

If Sumiata starts at tackle all season for the Chiefs and they threepeat it will sting also.

All of this ^ will be exponentially worse if Polk develops into what he appears to be already. A good possession WR who maxes out at 800-900 yards a season. We have a bunch of those guys already, a glut of them and we’ll have to make a tough roster decision on cutdown day with similar players like Boutte or to activate Bourne.

Not addressing tackle will go down as the biggest mistake of the offseason.

I don’t watch college football, don’t have the time. But I like the draft. In evaluation Mitchell and Legette were my two favorite outside WR’s the Pats had a legitimate shot at knowing they had to go QB with the #1.

I forgot about Worthy; this takes a bit of the shine off Mitchell since he probably faced the number two CBs. And Worthy is now on the Chiefs; the rich get richer; why do I feel that we are playing checkers and the rest of the league is playing chess? It used to be the other way around.

I also agree that LT was more of a need, but a bit of a reach at where they were in round 2. I trust that they tried to move down again and failed. But wow, Polk instead of Mitchell? Seems shaky, but we will see.

Yeah, I'm with you there.

We should take all this in context, any of these guys in the 2d round only have a 1 of 3 chance of becoming a solid NFL starter. To declare we took the wrong guy without playing any NFL regular season games is a bit premature.

Edelman had 7 catches in his THIRD season. Give them some time to see how quickly they learn or not.

1st round - about 50% of players drafted in the 1st round developed into solid NFL starters.

2nd round - about 33% of players drafted in the 2nd round developed into solid NFL starter. From here, it dropped by 50% per round.

3rd round - about 16%.

4th round - about 8%.

5th round - about 4-5%.

6th round - about 2%.

7th round - about 1-2%.

Very true, but in addition to polk’s potential cadean wallace is also part of the discussion and how he winds up compared to the 2nd rd tackles. This will take time to evaluate but it would definitely sting if wallace doesn’t pan out and we missed out on a quality tackle for someone ultimately not worth it

The Patriots admitted they took Polk too early, but that they tried to trade down and there were no takers, so they took the best remaining WR on their board.

The Colts had big success last year with Josh Downs. I watched that kid's UNC highlights and thought he had incredible body control and hands. Couldn't figure out why he went so late.

This isn't the first time the Patriots were forced to take a guy earlier than he was rated. They said the same thing about Cole Strange and Marte Mapu. You cal around and the only thing someone wants to give you for a trade down in the 2nd is a 5th or a 6th. It's not worth it. Especially in a weak draft. If there's a 10% chance that someone takes Polk in the next 10 picks, it's not worth the risk for a 5th or a 6th.

You are basing this on what, exactly?

The Patriots were obviously not the only team who had reservations about him. Many NFL and player personnel peeps didn’t view Polk as only a “fine possession receiver”. there were several reports about him getting increasing amounts of love during the pre-process. If the Pat did not draft him at the top of the second, he probably was not getting past the mid-2nd.

Fans (of all teams) do this every year. Can’t we wait until at least midseason before making any judgments about rookies? Why is it necessary to start second-guessing draft choices before we have any reason to start second-guessing those choices?

Remember that we got a 4 in the trade down so instead of Ladd McConkey, we got Polk and Baker. I m still optimistic about Baker.
