Actions have consequences. Or they should.

Letting go of Jacoby Meyers and bringing in a supposedly better YAC guy in JuJu Smith-Schuster turned out to be a boneheaded move.
Agreed. At this point I would rather have Baker, Boutte, Polk, and Douglas, than Meyers, so there was no harm in letting him go, even though it was a bonehead decision.

Their former LT Trevor Penning, another first-rounder, was moved to RT. He is looking bad. Very bad.

WOW, TP is having a very, very bad day...or maybe he is always this terrible. Got straight up trucked several times and ended up on his ass each time....not aggressive at all. Looks almost scared. Linemen playing like this makes me want to scream. The polar opposite of how they should be playing.

Saints drafted Taliese Fuaga, the roadgrader RT from Oregon State. They’ve put him at LT. He was my OT2 in the draft, and he played flawlessly in their first preseason game. Coaches are very high on him.

He didn’t look real comfortable out there, especially vs the bull rush… Still think his best chance at success lies on the Left side…

Booty over Meyers? If cap hit is a consideration, then maybe… If it’s not, then No Way.

Some RB named Robert on the Hawaiian sand.
I suppose it worked out in the end. If he didn't get hurt the Carroll era might have been more successful, Kraft doesn't fire him, BB doesn't come here...

This is the draft that had 6 tackles taken before the Patriots got shut out and traded down for Cole Strange.

4 of those tackles are now busts. One wonders what the talk would be if we had taken one of the 4 busts.

CB McDuffie was there for the taking, but if you look at all the picks from 21 until Strange, and all the tackles taken before 21, your chances of succeeding in that first round were minimal at best. It was either McDuffie or Penning / Ekwonu / Kaiir Elam. Good luck.

I don't recall them ever getting "shut out" on offensive tackles. I remember it as all the talk there was that they specifically wanted to address the LG spot and that's what they got shut out of. That was the year where they traded Shaq Mason and penciled in Onwenu at RG. They had Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn penciled in at the OT spots and then Andrews at C. On paper, they had NFL caliber players at ever position except for LG - it was their clear and obvious weakest position.

From what I recall, HOU taking Kenyon Green at #15 and LAC taking Zion Johnson at #17 were higher than expected and there was a huge drop off in OG prospects after that. But they had pigeon holed themselves into picking that spot specifically so even though he was a reach, Strange was the next guy on their board at a spot they felt they needed to come away with a starter at. Hence the trade back and overdraft. I might be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

Textbook example of why drafting for need is silly and why you should use free agency to give yourself passable options across the roster so you aren't ever that desperate. Which BB traditionally did really well over the years until the end, but so be it.

The Patriots will be actively checking out waiver wire and trades for Tackles im sure.
I'm sure they will but waiver wire and cutdown day trades are probably going to yield players the caliber of.... Vederien Lowe. That's exactly how we got him. That's the type of caliber player you should expect.

It's unfathomable to me they're going to "address" either OT spot with a cutdown day acquisition. Likely just another body to throw into the mix and hope to strike gold, which would be crazy luck.

The talk was they were looking for tackles specifically.

As for Kenyon Green, he played right tackle a couple years at A&M, and even made All-American as a tackle. I remember thinking of him as a tackle, though some projected him inside.

Penning, Green, Ekwonu, Cross and Neal were the 5 guys I was thinking of.

As for Trent Brown, he played 8 games the year before. Im not sure they were really relying on him at tackle. I think the Patriots have been looking for a tackle for a very long time, since Solder left at least. Wynn by 2022 was already busted, so they've been looking.
