Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

Wilfork didn’t win a Super Bowl as a starter until 2014. Keith Traylor was the starting NT his rookie season when they won in 2004.

Good catch. I think my point still stands that their best stretches as a team came following their best stretches in the draft (obviously supplemented by smart signings/trades).

I agree, the early years were Bill’s best.

This is such a ridiculous statement. What's the average number of years any NFL player last? That number probably drops with each round too.

First you're assuming we get the pick right which based on at least one pro bowl appearance your chances are less than %20. Then you're assuming he will play ten years. And you're assuming we will resign him to a second deal if not a third.

The only thing ridiculous is crying about a 32 year old coming off major injury with no future on this team demanding absorbent amount of money for a great pick to help build the team for when they're ready to actually be competitive.

It's wild to me that you think this trade keeps them from being who they could be when they were looking down the barrel of a 4 win season anyway.

Not only that, but getting a high 3rd round pick and looks like falcons will not extend him.means he's a 1 year rental. Great value for the pats.

Yup, and we shouldn't absolve the Pats of blame in that case either, because for all we know what soured Judon was seeing all the other extensions they gave out. I know my own ego would have been bothered by that too.
Bill was always a big proponent of the locker room economics and I think this new regime may have just had their first lesson on the subject with the way this Judon situation played out.

I'm on the pro side of this trade, but I'd push back on this because we still don't know what Judon was asking for. Assuming Atlanta eventually does give him a new deal, I want to see what those terms are before I classify it as exorbitant.

Yup, similar to how many shows are harping on how Mayo/Wolf "lied" to them about Onwenu being signed to play RT. Bill's way isn't some holy bible of how to operate a team, but there were generally reasons behind his contract philosophy and his lack of candor. As refreshing as some of this is, I imagine it'll eventually start to tilt back in that direction. Maybe never quite as far as Bill would take it, but these are growing pains for the new regime for sure.

Another point that just occurred to me:

Even if you like this deal you should be pissed that we're doing it now instead of before the 2024 draft

If our New boss had a clue, he (or they) would’ve had it already by accepting Atlanta’s offer to move-up in the 2nd round instead of the LAC’s…

Curran said Judon wanted to be paid as a top pass rusher making 20+ mil a year.

Oh did some of the takes in this topic ever age badly. Lol

Just being realistic players like Judon are way more valuable than unknown 3rd Rd picks that bust more than succeed.

I can understand how things deteriorated to this point (injury, contract demands, sitting on trash cans, holding in) but I can't understand why fans would like it or prefer it. It's ridiculous.

I don't know anyone who gives an F about Atlanta's thinking. I'm a complete blank on that.
I see what you did there.

I live in Atlanta so we follow them loosely.

Fanbase didn’t love the deal.

They also didn’t love the Penix pick.

I envisioned this Defense with Judon - Gonzo - White - Uche and Wise even without Barmore. Now oh boy we are never getting off the field another long drive buy the opposing Offense that leads to points.

I kinda felt this was the case. If he was coming off another great season, I could've seen it happening. I bet we were offering more in the $15 million a year average, which is what Hassan Reddick seems to be upset about.

Yes this.
Painful truth is most 3rd rounders do not work out. Judon is a known quantity

Remember what the Great BB once said: "Let the Fans Coach your Team and sooner rather than later you'll be sitting with them." I really liked Penix over Maye last Draft I wanted Penix later on but Atlanta pulled the QB trigger. How has he looked so far if you don't mind me asking??

Sometimes it does concern me that Mayo might be going out of his way to portray himself as the anti-Bill when in reality the only coach he has worked with as a professional player or a coach is Bill. I get that their personalities are likely very different but Bill had a ton of success here so Mayo doesn't need to completely reinvent the wheel in every facet of being the head coach.

I Would take two OL back to back.

Yes, they need a center for life after Andrews, back of the 1st round is a good place to get the best of the class unless is a generational talent that goes on the top 10.

The Bills are not anything like the Steelers. The Bills have had several opportunities to have Super Bowl seasons in recent years and due to bad luck or bad decisions or bad mistakes they have haven’t. There were several years where they were arguably a better team than the team that won the Super Bowl.

The Steelers have no shot of winning a Super Bowl. They are playing for a wild card every year and then getting outclassed in the first round of the playoffs.
Time may prove you right, as Josh Allen seems like a special talent at QB (supposedly one of the prerequisites for a much higher chance at a SB win apart from luck), but what you're talking about sounds like an "on paper" sort of thing. If they were really better, then they would've won. They've been what they've been - not good enough to get a bye, just good enough to win a playoff game and that's it (except that one time). Imho, it's marginally better than the Steelers (3 of 4 playoffs with no playoff wins), but that's gonna be a difference in opinion.

Now they lost Diggs. As a general fan, I'll be curious to see how they (and the Steelers with the new QBs) do. As a Pats fan, I hope they (all) suck donkey stones and miss their window completely.

Of course but it never should have gotten there.
Adalius Thomas, randy, Shawn springs, Derek burgess, Joey Galloway.. all did similar things. Judon's not the first and won't be the last... Chris Jones what he did last season probably takes the cake!
