Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

A team that goes 32-32 over 4 years is a middle of the road team. When you change coaches, philosophies, and eat a huge cap shortage and fall back to 5-11 in order to get better you are a middle of the road team.
10-6-->9-7-->8-8-->5-11 is still a trend in the wrong direction. Point is they turned it around in 2001 and won it all.

I will miss him as a person and player. Given his Twitter recruitment track record, I am consoling myself with the hope that more players will sign here.

Mid 30’s means 3 years left….its a sh*tty business but this was a good move by the Pats especially once Judon became a malcontent instead of just working through the process and either request trade or play it out for your next contract…..Wish him the best
I believe he would have signed a 3 year deal.

To those who think "we aren't going to contend, why bother?" I say teams need to start somewhere. Judon is an upper tier player who not only would make the defense better (and would hopefully serve as a mentor to younger players) but takes some pressure off the offense to score every time they have the ball. When Maye likely starts next year he's going to need help on both sides of the ball to be successful.

The Pats had the $$$ to spend. No other FAs are walking through the door. No one wants to play here right now. The message is being sent very clearly that this team has zero interest in winning in the near future. All else being equal, if I'm a FA I'll take the same or less money to play somewhere else.

This team is praying that Drake Maye proves to be a lights out slam dunk pick. If he isn't, there doesn't appear to be any plan in place to build something here right now. Obviously no one knows what's happening behind closed doors but right now it doesn't look good.

We are spoiled by decades of the belief that anything other than a Superbowl winning season is a failure.

They did have the QB, that is until the former HC who is .428 without Brady lost his marbles and hired MP and Judge to turn the QB and his offense into a clown show.

Don't know why people think the Patriots had this great defense that just needed the QB to contend. They don't.
If you think after watching him play that they had the QB, I officially devalue any opinion you could ever have in football because there is not a worse opinion humanly possible.

They lost at least 6 games last year that the win with the 31st best qb play in the league

Why are you 2 arguing over semantics?

At the end of the day the 2001 Pats didn't trade away Willie Mcginest because they thought they would suck the next few years like the Pats just did with Judon.

his franchise dumps the coach
And rightfully so after a 4 win season.
brings in the least experienced staff ever.
Can't be worse than MP and Judge at handling offense.

They have 63 million to spend to bring in new players to upgrade the roster and spend 8 on a journeyman gap filling qb,
You'd rather keep Jones?

Then they trade their best player
He wasn't their best player last season. Wasn't even on the field for most of it.

Judon is in a contract dispute, he's 32 and coming off a serious injury. I'll take my chances that he has already peaked.

Yes but the conversation was about “spending years on the cellar” being a better path to winning a sb than bring a consistent contender like Pittsburgh.
That patriots team was much close to the Steelers

Horrible move AJ is right we are really tanking seven years away.

BOB was worse than MP and Judge and I’d bet heavily this years offense won’t match 2022

No I’d rather spend the 43,000,0000

I didn’t say he was their best player while injured. I said he was their best player today

Read my post again. The part after "until..." We will never know what could have been if the former HC/GM didn't screw up.

We watched him play. Again, if you want to die on that hill, you lose any respect I ever had about you football knowledge.

Love to see how we're getting to the QB now. Every Team in our Division is already spotted Two wins never though I would see the day.

It already looks better. The team needs an OL. 2022 was a systemic problem everywhere and you can blame the former HC for making that possible he of the .428 win pct without Brady, for making those two goofy hires.

And I wouldn't be so sure of that coming off that injury. He does tend to fade late in the season as well. An injury like that can't help.

I take it you didn't take my advice. Ok then.

I don’t think 7. I think it will come after Mayo is fired. Kraft will need to hire a high profile coach. That coach will not come here unless Kraft agrees at least to spend to the cap even if he won’t spend equal cash to cap as other teams.
Mayo would have taken the job if it included walking Krafts dog 3 times a day, so he just does what he is told and thanks “thunder@ hitter job he didn’t deserve.

I would rather tank than just be perennial borderline playoff teams. That is worse than a couple of awful years to become a contender again. I would hate the Pats to become the post Roethlisberger being healthy Steelers. I think that is purgatory.

After 20 years of the Pats almost always being able to at least pencil in an appearance in the AFCCG every season, I can stomach a could of awful years if the Pats show that they are building something.

I mean if the Pats suck this year after sucking next year and Maye ends up being a dud and they have to start over again in three years, then I will be pissed.
It's tough. 8 of the last SBs were won by surefire 1st ballot HoF QBs. 1 was because a coach decided to not start one of their starting CBs, and the other basically put all their chips on Double 0 multiple times in the draft (after hitting on a HoF DL and one of the best WRs in the game). If you look even further back another 11 seasons, it's all HoF QBs or borderline (... and Flacco). Everyone else are perennial losers in purgatory. For example, the Bills are really not much better off recently than the Steelers - the last AFCCG was 4 seasons ago, and that's their only one in the last 30 years!

Sounds like the recipe for another SB win is either, 1) get another Hof QB or borderline or 2) Get really lucky and catch lightning in a bottle (drafting exceptionally well, being lucky with almost everything, etc).

Any player any year can get injured.

By all accounts Judon has been a standout on defense in TC this year and has been a leader on the sidelines in the preseason game.

Why wouldn't you pay him when you already have the most cap space in the NFL?

I’m just going to go ahead and put you on ignore. I don’t care what you think and your posts have a quality about them that screams for a response/correction.

How many were won by a team that sucked and drafted the qb in the first few picks of round 1?

It's a risk. Contract year, age 32 coming off a serious injury. A team offered a 3rd rounder. I don't blame the team for taking the third instead of that risk tbh.
