Some juicy QB controversy or ….???

Zappe-mania has died down
Apparently I am permanently afflicted

The question is, how many Super Bowls must he win before the notion that he is not a 'system quarterback' who 'cannot throw the deep ball' start to die down?

More importantly, which team will he win them for? I obviously prefer the Patriots, but I have zero influence.

Brett Favre may have always been worthy of the criticism of his personality and attitude, but he was clearly at least the second best quarterback of the 90's, best being defined as what QB gives your team its best chance to win.

Holmgren saw it.

What?

Yep. Zappe never had the physical attributes or unusual throwing skills Milton has. The point most people were making about Zappe was that in fairness, given Mac's very uneven performance and Zappe's at least adequate performances in practice and in a couple of games, it might be justifiable, in keeping with the alleged policy that the best player plays, to start him to see what he could do. It was felt that he had earned that opportunity. I felt that he had, but I suspected and said at the time that it was unlikely would be able to show, even given that opportunity, that he could ever be an NFL starter, notwithstanding that I thought he had earned the opportunity to try. Such subtleties were of course lost in the general shouting match, the Great Zappe-Lover vs. Zappe-Hater wars of 2023. I don't think anybody believes that Milton is at all ready as matters stand to start on any basis as a way showing what he can do - he has not earned that - but I would certainly hold onto him for his intriguing upside. Zappe does not have and never did have anything like the same upside.

I hope they keep Milton around as a way of exploring just how his overall game might develop. Zappe was pretty much maxed out at mediocre. Zappe had earned a shot at showing what he could do starting a game. There is no evidence at all that Milton is (yet) in the same position.
Zappe stays in, barring a season-ending injury, that team is at the very least in the playoffs and probably advances at least one round.

With Patricia and Judge.

IMHO

As I said, i supported the idea that Zappe had earned a shot at showing what he could do, so I'm no Zappe hater, but I didn't see any evidence at any point which would justify in my mind your level of optimism. I guess to my eye Zappe has a very hard ceiling, and that ceiling's altitude suggests to me that while he might serve as a backup in the NFL, he can never be an established starter. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think that's gonna happen in New England.

Its a big NO from me whether the Pats should treat Maye like a Bambino.

Jagoby is not the identity of the Pats offense and definitely not the face of the future. Brisset started 11 games in 2022 and went 4 - 7 which is par for the course with him since he has never had a winning record. Jacoby Brissett Stats, Height, Weight, Position, Draft, College | Pro-Football-Reference.com The Browns ditched Jagoby and picked up Flacco in the 2023 offseason. Maye needs to take his lumps sooner, not later and get his rookie season in the books. Make great plays and commit ugly mistakes that are just part of the learning process as a rookie NFL QB.

Milton is a gadget/change of pace type player to me.

From what I've read, Milton has been playing against the 3's, no?

If so, then... hard to really make comparisons.

He supposedly is not working from the full playbook either. I think I heard they're working special packages for him.

Stop it. Everyone knew he was a project for this year. |He's on the Jordan Love program.
I get what you’re saying but technically he’s not since he doesn’t have a qb in his way that everyone says is the second coming of Jesus aka alone in the dark Aaron…this is of course past tense since dipshit arod moved on.

Yes. Good backup is the ceiling. He has too many weaknesses to play regularly.

Kinda like bringing Prichard in with 2 second left in the half.
It is surprising that one of these new age coaches haven't started using the hail mary like a half court shot in the NBA. Call timeout and sling it as a routine way to close the half. I guess too much can go wrong for that to be a real strategy.

History is replete with athletes who were not treated fairly subsequently having outstanding, often Hall of Fame championship winning careers, usually somewhere else.

I won't bother to start naming them.

It is of course up to the individual person. What little I know of Zappe's personality and attitude, if - if - he avoids being discouraged by the system and retains and develops his many obvious positive mental and physical capabilities, he has the opportunity ahead of him.

Here, it depends upon Mayo, and the other guys probably being injured.

IMHO Bailey Zappe is better than Brock Purdy.

No. He isn't.

Michael Bishop, could you please pick up the red courtesy phone in the lobby...

To answer the question in the title: "or."

Taking a Hail Mary in basketball with under ~2.0 seconds is essentially a risk-free chance at points; it is almost literally impossible to get a shot off after one before the clock hits zero.

There is definitely a lot of risk on most Hail Marys in the NFL.

LOL. I'm a little baffled as well. Did Zappe win a couple of Super Bowls without my noticing? Why was I not informed?

He already won them in the future. We just have to wait for time to catch up. Of course, this is how you get infinite earths so that's gonna suck.

Remember when Rohan Davey was looking good and the Homers wanted a 1st round for him because the Pats already had Brady?
No
