PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Saturday Patriots Training Camp 8/3

I went to camp today. Didn’t have the best view unfortunately, but still came away thinking the 2nd and 3rd string offense looked really poor. OL was constantly getting pushed around, and there were way too many drops and miscommunications. 1st team offense looked solid outside of the two picks.

I mean….. ‘thinner depth chart’ than - arguably - the worst QB room in the league ?
This seems presumptuous...

Two decades from now Maye and Milton could be HOF QB's for all we know and Brissett had a late career push that won him a ring.

The Titans QB room, the Giants, the Steelers might be a disaster again, Anthony Richardson might be a complete bust which would make the Colt's QB room a joke, the Raiders, what if Jayden Daniels sucks in Washington, Carolina might be a wasteland, Tampa's nothing to write home about....

I'd take the unknown of the Patriot's QB room over the known of these teams ^ all day.

Trade him, he’s got a reputation. They can get a late round pick for him.

Hell, I'd even pick up some of his salary to just facilitate a trade quickly...

Say...JuJu...3 million pick up...for a 6th? We would actually clear about 1.7M on the cap even if we pay 3M of his salary for this year (signing bonus proration is about 5.3M). Throw in Zappe...and make it a 5th rounder....

Last year we had people telling us there was no way they could trade Jonnu Smith, some said we'd have to attach a draft pick just to trade him. They got a late round pick back for him.

Other teams aren't a bunch of ornery Pat's fans on a message board, if they need WR help he would be a good short term rental for somebody.

If Schuster plays, he will get his guaranteed salary of $7M plus $1M of game bonus for a total of $8M.

If we cut him, we would take a $2M cap hit (all sunk cost). So, you believe that a team would be willing to pay him $5M (we would throw in the other $3M).

To be clear, that deal would likely be signed by the patriots within the hour or two that it would take to book him a plane ticket and gather his stuff.
==========
Draft compensation matters little. More than a 7th would likely require us to kick in MORE than the $3M.

MY QUESTION
is how long will we wait. Would we be willing to put him on the 53 in the hope that we would have to pay less in a month when a couple WR's get injured? Or will we get whatever we can before the cutdown date, and nothing can be had we would just cut him.

I suspect that we might be willing to pay $5M of his salary, giving us close to a break-even position for this year's cap.

I’d also take the NE QBs over those - but almost wholly on the hope a rookie becomes a player. I think that NE’s qb room is, as we stand, very very weak.

It’s weak to the point that if Zappe isn’t good enough to even practice in Foxborough, you’d need to think he’d not get a shot in other camps either.

The offense was so bad the last 2 years that now we are impressed by the, at his very best 25th best QB in the league.

The guy has been in the league for 7 years would be worrying if it doesn’t look like an NFL operation with him.

The coaching staff are playing Maye with Juju. I don’t think that’s good for Maye’s development. While Brissett has Henry making crazy catch on questionable balls.

T.T. making it all the way through August 2 was already more than we could expect!
It might have been a rest, stretch, and recover day since the Pats have tomorrow off. Injury avoidance day.

I'm amazed to see Schuster, Thornton, Boutte and Reagor ALL still here. I guess other teams need to see a pre-season game or two.

We are going to have to outright Cut Juju he's running with Three's embarrassing.

Style from 55.
Ryland has been better this offseason. Slye still gets the edge for now as a consistent veteran but if Ryland can deliver for 3 preseason games then maybe we have something.

I'll say it again, Hunter Henry is a very good TE. The room looks in good shape with him and Hooper.

Wilcox needs to go, his hands are terrible.
I think the hope is that Bell or Warren can take the 3rd TE spot and one of the 2 will go to the PS.
