Rookies Report For Training Camp

I was referring to the GSOT Rams they had one of the best defenses in the league that year.

I wouldn’t say they stopped the GSOT… they did let the Rams score twice to tie in the 4th quarter and Warner threw for a then SB passing record number of yards. But they made clutch plays when they needed to and that’s what mattered. The defense had a poor first 40 minutes against the Falcons but then stopped them cold when they needed to and Brady obviously did the rest. The defense unfortunately couldn’t stop Eli Manning twice when it really mattered. Had the lead late and coughed it up both times with a TD drive.
You're totally underrating what the defense did in all those games.

Look at points scored. 17 to the GSOT?

The defense gave up a total of 21 points against the Falcons. That offense averaged 34 points per game.

As for Eli, the Giants weren't very good. But 2007 was an offensive flub, not a defensive flub.

I’m agreeing. The defense made plays in the biggest moments.

Vs the Giants though not so much. 2007- helmet catch, A$ante had the pick and didn’t come down with it, Hobbs vs Plaxico. 21st ranked passing game in the league and turned the ball over a bunch. And the defense couldn’t get it done. 2011- gave up a bunch of yards to Nicks which is understandable but not stopping the run vs a team ranked dead last in the league running the ball- not so understandable.

they didn't give up many points. that's the big thing.

It's the offense that was to blame.

Allowed yards though to a non offensive juggernaut. When you have the GOAT, keeping him on the sidelines because your defense can’t get stops might be just as egregious as allowing points…

The point of a football game is not to allow points.

The Patriots style of D is to prevent points, not yards. To prevent the big play. This is why it's so successful.

Not when you have the GOAT.

If you defense can’t get off the field on 3rd down that means Brady can’t get on it to score points and he did that a lot.

J Polk will have a better rookie season than Terry Glen. RIP.
Glenn had an insane rookie season. Held the rookie record for a while.

Can we talk about TE.
I'm a bit concerned. We're testing fate to rely on Henry being Mr. Ironman and not getting injured for the 4th straight year.
I used to like Hooper, but he seems to have fallen off the athletic cliff. Let's hope it was only due to Raiders black hole.
Bell should have some flex ability, and could be exciting if he picks it up, but it's always hard to count on rookies.
I wish they could have kept Pharaoh - he was really catching on the 2nd half of last year.

There’s no talking to him, in both Giants super bowl losses our offense scored 14 and 17 points… but it was the D’s fault they lost.

Nevermind the fact the Patriots offense couldn’t score and created the only turnovers in the game… laughable.

This guy will ballwash anything that doesn’t portray Tom as a helpless victim of his team, defense and coach… doesn’t matter how poorly the offense played.

Who gave up the lead both times late in the 4th to an offensively flawed Giants team?

Hint: not Brady

Hooper is a solid player just throw out last year in Vegas the Rookie Bell could be interesting.

The offense scored half its average PPG on the season and created the games only turnovers.

The D allowed the same number of points they had all season. Learn the game.

Wash those balls….

Yet when Brady got the ball in 2007 that didn't happen.

You're telling the greatest defensive mine in the history of the sport that his strategy was wrong.

Do you even realize how delusional you sound?

This is Belichick Derangement Syndrome.

Fact: The Patriots had the lead late in the 4th both times and both times they did not stop an offensively challenged team from getting a game winning TD. They also could not get off the field on 3rd down and could not recover fumbles from the Giants, notably in the first game.

They failed both times, period.

Nobody thinks the offense played great both games but they were both defensive failures. Those GIants teams weren't exactly the Manning Colts or Mahomes Chiefs.

How so? You disagree that keeping Brady on the sidelines is a bad thing?

The Patriots offense had the ball last in the 2011 super bowl… you can’t even get your facts right.

Do I think NOT giving up 7 is a bad thing?

Of course I don't.

You do?

There's no point in playing Brady at all if you're giving up big plays all the time. The greatest QB in NFL history can't overcome that.

Your strategy would be what, on defense?

Lay it out

Both teams had the same number of possessions, the Pats D forced more punts than the Giants D did.

Blaming possessions when your offense fails to create time consuming drives or score is more ballwashing by you.

3 things that exploded my brain about SB 42 vs the Giants. Not only did Samuel have a spectacular chance to end the game on an INT, but I believe Meriweather & Harrison each had a chance at an INT as well on that drive. And then the helmet catch, Harrison is legendary for hitting and getting fines, why didn’t he hit the receiver instead of trying to wrestle the ball away. If he had just hit the receiver with a well timed typical Harrison hit, no way the receiver catches the ball.

Of course, this has been discussed ad nauseum, but there was obvious holding by the Giant’s Oline, I believe Jarvis Green and Richard Seymour each only had one arm available due to massive tackling by the Giants Oline allowing Manning to escape a sack. That STILL pisses me off. Would’ve pushed the Giants back even further and negated the helmet catch. WTF were the refs looking at ?

The Patriots offense had the ball last in the 2011 super bowl… you can’t even get your facts right.
The defense coughed up the lead and allowed the game winning TD late in the 4th to Eli Manning and the worst run offense in the league. That fact stands.
