What's a Thomas Pynchon read on this?

"Yeah, uh, once the investigation yielded that Boutte was merely a vessel in what was a large vetting ring of collusion concerning local donors, all magnates in their respective markets, we decided to drop the charges, because they had blackmail against us.

So, yup, nothing happened, kthxbai."

Obviously not saying that happened but hey, at least it'd be a wild story haha

Did I say he was our fifth best receiver? I said he's the front runner for the 5th SPOT. Unless you think they're going to cut bait with Polk or Baker in year one (something I have seen YOU argue many times has never happened with a 4th round pick or better on this team). Don't mix my words. Polk and Baker may not be BETTER now, but they are certain more of a lock right now than Osborn.
fair enough

I agree

I think the pecking order is:
1. Douglas
2. Osbourne
3. Polk
4. Boutte
5. Baker
6. Tyquan

Bourne - PUP
JuJu - trade
Reagor & the rest: cut or PS

We have more promising receivers than we have room for, so there will be some scrambling to keep as many as possible to get a longer look at them. JuJu looks good now that he's healthy, but is probably trade bait at this point. Tyquan better not miss 1 day of training camp cause he's gotta be on very thin ice.
a running team with 7 WR's; what a waste

Great news! Hopefully the topic of going after free agent WRs will be dropped. The room is crowded enough. If there should be any focus on where to add help, it should be at OL.

Not going after free agent WRs. Trading for every and any disgruntled WR that might be on the market. Lamb? Yes! Aiyuk? Of course! Any others? Sign the beast!

/s ; maybe

Basically, you are saying that we shouldn't have signed a veteran. OK.
Free agency is a month before the draft though. They wouldn’t have known if they were going to get any WRs they liked in the draft. Turns out, they drafted two guys. So it certainly made sense to sign a short-term veteran for security reasons in March, but post-draft, there’s a lot of young guys on the roster worthy of developing. I’m not saying that you keep a younger player over Osborn regardless of anything, but simply weighing out the different factors. If there’s a logjam and several younger players are looking decent and worth keeping and developing then it makes more sense to cut bait with the vet. But the young guys have to earn that.

To be fair the charges were for actions he allegedly had taken while in college, not as a pro. So it's not like he's suddenly done something wrong recently, we're still talking about stuff that would have been in his past. As far as I'm aware he has not done anything wrong as a pro. It's only been a year and some change, but still - trying to give him some level of benefit of the doubt as a Patriot.
He earned the reputation in college as a diva and malcontent... I'll believe it when I see it.

I have about as much faith in him as I had in Jack Jones to pull his head from his rear... little to none.

There will be a minimum of three young guys on the 53 for this year and next: Douglas, Polk and Baker.

IMO, we have absolutely no reason to make room for more.

We are well served with two experienced veterans in Bourne and Osborn.

Personally, I cannot see another youngster being given the opportunity to prove that he is worth a roster spot. Perhaps, I could see Schuster being a factor, but not Thornton or Boutte.

Barring injuries, there’s no way both Booty & BoneyT make the Opening Day 53; heck neither of them might make it if Mayo & Wolf decide that Suck-Suck is less worthless to them on the roster than off it…

See, I would agree with you if they were the Tom Brady Patriots playing for a title. But the thing is, they aren't - they are rebuilding and need to develop guys. Does it make so much sense to hang onto the "steady" veteran as your 5th guy who is on a 1 year deal, is mostly a known quantity, and may be gone next year anyway? I see more sense in keeping the younger players who have more potential and more cheap years on their deals even if they do not all pan out. They'll all continue to compete with each other to prove themselves.
He's basically just entering his prime.

Flip 4 and 5.

I can’t think of one for him, so I’m open to suggestions…Reagor’s free money anyway, unlike the other aforementioned stiffs.
Well Reagor flashed here and there... then again so doesn't a hooker on the strip...
