Since its so quiet, how about a general thread for predictions for the 2024 Patriots Season? (Not wins and losses there is another thread for that)

Here's my my first one, which isn't all that earth shattering:

Despite the level of talent, the Patriots defense will struggle and regress from last year, costing some games, giving BB the opportunity to quietly smirk at times during his media appearances and give a look that says, "what do you think was going to happen" and return some of the shade that Mayo has been throwing Bill's way. Karma is a *****.

Maye will start game 1
Gibson is a 40 catch 400 yard runner
Polk is a 50 catch WR
Wallace is very good
the Pats defense is attacking more than before and plays to a top 5 defense

the team starts to jell the back half of the season winning 7 games on the year and shows lots of reason for optimism in 2025

Brissett to be as mediocre and boring as a qb can be, the offense will be a snoozefest, the defense will flash against bad teams/backup quarterbacks. When Maye finally plays he will show promise. Thornton gets cut/traded

My early prediction: we will have more pissing and moaning than ever on this forum and the game day threads will be unreadable.

I am optimistic about seeing progress through the season and having the younger players improve. It’s all about the offensive line for me this year, if they can gel and run the ball effectively the Pats will not be fun to play this year. They have a tough schedule but it’s a benefit for a team looking for younger players to step up as leaders.

The offensive line will be a revolving door for much of the year. Okorafor, Anderson and Wallace will all see time at LT and they'll try unsuccessfully to shake things up when Strange returns from PUP in late October. However, Wallace will eventually settle in as a perfectly cromulent RT, and we'll be feeling pretty good about going rookie-Sow-Andrews-Onwenu-Wallace in 2025.

The WR room will be a pleasant surprise. Polk will look like he belongs from day 1 and Douglas will take a year 2 jump. Baker will see the field less that we hope, but he'll make a few impact plays.

Barmore and White will emerge as a very good pass rushing tandem, and the defense will remain a top 5-8 unit.

Brisset will be boring but competent. The offense will not be good enough to win a lot of games, but it will look better, and the team will lose a lot of 20-16 type games.

Maye will step in after the bye and go 3-1, knocking the Chargers out of contention week 17 then leading a 4th quarter comeback to knock out the Bills at home week 18.

The team finishes 6-11.

For the first time since Brady left the Patriots finish the season strong.

Pleasant surprises:
The receiver room
The OL
Brissett plays well.

Disappointments:
Gonzalez struggles in his sophomore season
The kicking woes continue
The defense isn't as good as people think. Judon is shipped out of town.

Mayo and the coaching staff will struggle badly. Fans and media will be asking if Mayo is in over his head? Bob will throw someone under the bus to avoid the attention going on him.
Brissett may never see the field like Newton lost his job to Mac Jones.
Judon gets traded.
I agree with @sb1 Gonzalez may struggle in his sophomore season. He was allowing the most yards in the NFL before his injury which is being overlooked by everyone in the media. He was on pace to give up a record 1,200+ yards in a season.
Baker or Polk break the WR curse.
Marcus Jones makes plays as a returner.
One of the rookie OL wins a starting job.

it's not a real forum without pissing and moaning

I fear the size of the coaching staff is a sign of potential disarray more than Mayo's inability to lead men, or AVP's inability to coach a winning offense, or Covington's inability to call a defense.
They went from a staff of about 10 named coaches under BB to 100. It's insane.
Either they're all making nothing, or Kraft is getting fleeced with all of their relatives and buddies getting jobs.
It's just too many guys.

Bill had a lot more coaches when he first started and it was his best staff. The amount of coaches isn't the problem - it's the inexperience of the HC and mediocre assistant coaches.

My understanding was that BB was given a budget for coaches, including himself. After paying himself handsomely he only left a sliver of the pie for assistants. If you consider the delta between what Mayo is making and what BB was making, I'm sure there is more than enough dough to pay for the needed help.

Mayo will continue Kraft's line of successful Patriots HC's starting with Pete Carroll.
Wide Receiver will become a strength and not a weakness.
We'll have a no fly zone @ CB.
Offensive Line will be much improved.
Kicker Chad Wide-left will be cut and put on our taxi squad.

Outside of going 10-7 this year…I think/hope Ryland bounces back. Need to justify his pick >< doh! Outside of that, Trent Brown goes to the Super Bowl with the bungles and is signed to the highest tackle contract only to **** the bed the following year…
