MY GUESS is that Wise and Peppers are most likely next, although we might be done until next off-season.

Did anyone think that Wolf would re-sign or extend all 13 key players who were free agents this year or next? Wolf has done an amazing job
Having a dozen players for next year (5 key players left from this year and 6 who we signed for one year. This is NOT a huge list for a team with over $100M in 2025 cap money.

We started with many key players to re-sign and several who would on their contract year in 2024. We figured to lose several of these players when they decided to move on to better opportunities.

We replaced Wilson with Takitaki and Zeke with Gibson.
We signed some one-year players: Brissett, Okorafor, Osborn, Watts, Uche and Hawkins)

I too am please with not only the players signed, but the deals agreed to
other than Dugger, very good deals.

bigger question. can they develop their draft picks?

I agree that the Dugger signing was the most suspect, I'd rather have Peppers than Dugger signed, not that they can't get that done too but seems the market for safeties was weak and a replacement could have been had for Dugger, who was not great last year. Peppers was great last year.

The last 5 guys left are all starters or near starters on defense but having 53 guys signed for 2025 and 87 million in space with no dead money allows them to hopefully fill some of those possible losses along with a good draft.

The biggest question: "Are the coaches any good?"

The future is bright with a great QB, we can't waste Maye like the Chargers have wasted the first few years with Herbert with a terrible defense and awful coaching. As long as the coaches are competent the defense will be good, and Maye will be a star.

I think the players signed, along with some of the guys on rookie deals still, mean that they will likely have enough pieces for the next several years to have at least a “good” defense each year without needing to put a ton of resources into it. This lets them lean more towards building up the offense and investing into it over time while their QB grows into himself as well.

We need more than a "good" Defense if we want to compete for the Super Bowl, and I think that Wolf and Mayo understand that. Considerable resources will need to continue to be spent on Defense. For starters, we will need to extend or replace the five free agents plus Hawkins.

We should continue to re-sign, extend and replace, along with drafting a couple of defense players in the top 4 draft choices each year.

Just not to guys that actually deserve it.

Curious to who would in your opinion deserve it more? Me thinks it’s a pretty good cast of characters that should definitely help out to stabilize the clubhouse. And by the way … congrats on third place on sexiest man alive … high five brah!!!

Uhhhhhh….Judon. He’s the best player on the team and it’s not even close. I’ve already shown in other threads how poorly his contract is compared to others on his own team.

But he is the only piece that might get a decent recent for next year's team.

Couldn’t disagree more. I think he signed good players to good deals. You can’t replace everyone, so you have to determine who you want to build around and keep them around.

Time to trade Judon now then. However, his market is slim due to the type of player he is. I see Pittsburgh, Baltimore and LA Rams as the only suitors.

The players themselves also have to be receptive to sign. Maybe the guys they didn't sign didn't want to or maybe asked for too much. We don't know the inner workings.

Detroit is ideal for him and his hometown. We get a 6th or 7th round pick and Hutchinson can never be doubled teamed again

They play a 4-3 so that wouldn't be a good fit. Also, I'm not taking anything less than a 4th.

Peppers Is the guy next up deserving of it as well. Former 1st round pick, who battled through career threatening injuries. Guys a top 5 safety in this league everything you want in leader.

Any coach that can coach 5 different QB'S up in one season, his offense is top 10, that team makes the playoffs at 11-5.. I'd say is dam good coach!..

Except it is unclear who gets credit for the offense in Cleveland, AVP did not call plays. Stefanski did.
The feedback from those that have worked with AVP seem to indicate he's pretty good but he has to prove it. As much as he says he can adapt to his players, he also seems stuck on his one scheme which may not line up with the type of talent they have. Overall, An unknown.

Also, can you lose one of the greatest defensive coaching minds in NFL history and not have a drop off on defense? With the coaching continuity and BB kind of falling off the last couple years I think they can be fine but still a question mark.
Is Mayo over his head? Is he a good head coach? Things look hopeful but, again, an unknown.

There is just no proven history here for any of the coaches, AVP calling plays: Unknown, Covington as DC: Unknown, Mayo as a HC: Unknown.

There is no way I trade Judon for a 6th or 7th round pick. If someone wants to trade for him then it’s going to take a 3rd at a minimum. He’s their best defensive player, you don’t give him away for nothing.

As far as their re signs go Wolf got pretty much all they wanted to keep back.
