I think Harris or Hasty could be the 3rd RB IF they prove something in preseason. Harris is bigger at 225. He’s only had 34 carries in the NFL. Ironically his YPC is 3.4. Can he block? Does AVP value that as much as BB did? Hasty’s had 101 carries with a 4.1 average. He’s also had 50 receptions with a high catch percentage. One problem could be is that he is short at 5’8” but weighs 205. Can he block?

I wish they had done better for the #3 & 4 RB spots; but Rham's & Gibson's hefty contracts have left the budget earmarked for the RB room down to minimum-wagers...

Harris averaged 2.9 as a rookie, he averaged 4.1 last year on a bad offense after Rhamondre went down. He also showed some ability as a pass blocker and in the passing game. He looks like a solid player.

If the Patriots cut any of their RB's behind the first three, those players will still be available on the waiver wire to sign to their practice squad the next day. No team is scrambling to add Hasty to their roster. The guy was an UDFA, he has been on 3 different teams in 4 years and spent half that time on practice squads. He's a jag.

The Pats should only roster Rhamondre, Gibson, Harris and let the rest go. After they place the players they want to protect on the practice squad or injured lists, they can add a 4th RB if they want by grabbing one off the waiver wire. There will probably be much better options available than Hasty once teams let go of older more expensive vets.

No team is scrambling to sign Harris either. It’s July 2nd…it’s way too early to evaluate. We haven’t even had camp yet.

K Harris needs to show something this year his third. I think Ja Hasty could be valuable Scat Back IF he can Block it looks like he can catch.

He’s looked better every season, he’s big and powerful. He played in the SEC, he got drafted.

People here are overrating our junk and underrating our actual talented players. One more really good postseason and you won’t want to expose Harris to waivers.

Kevin Harris has been in the NFL for 2 years. He had a whopping 18 carries in 2023. He’s looked better every season? Maybe you’re thinking of Damien Harris?

He had Rhamondre and Zeke Elliot ahead of him, that's how depth charts work.

Barry Sanders once sat on the bench behind Thurman Thomas, Sanders didn't suck...

I think you answered your own question with Harris riding pine in his 2nd season.

Barry Sanders had an NFL rookie rushing record of 1470 yards.

Rhamondre and Damien Harris both got benched as rookies for not knowing how to pass block, they put in the time, perfected their craft and earned snaps. James White didn't suck just because he had to wait in line behind Shane Vereen.

Rookies don't just get handed jobs or leapfrog great players ahead of them, that is not how depth charts work. And none of these players was the Heismen winner or the greatest runner in modern history. Barry Sanders waited until Thurman Thomas left school for the NFL... that's how it works.

Got it. Be sure to tell the team the next Barry Sanders has been riding pine the past 2 seasons

had dine better?

Won't there be opportunities between now and the trade deadline to get an upgrade at a good price?

Yup.

For us, Harris is much closer to junk that to talented player.

Of course there will be... But aside from Ezekiel Elliot, Bill - especially during the post-Brady years - had nearly always played the hand he was dealt once TC opened... Heck he never even replaced SweetFeet for the duration of Corky's career as the QB of the NEP; so it remains to be seen if that policy will continue here under the New boss...

This is true but I still think he should get more than 34 career carries to prove whether he is or isn’t an NFL back.

break down of the contract

2025 - 2.75m guaranteed
2026 - 3.25m guaranteed
2027 - 6.0m (not guaranteed)
2028 - 8.0m (not guaranteed)

Bonuses:
Signing - 8 Million, prorated at 1.6

roster bonus
'25 - 1m
'26 - 1m
27 - 1.7m
28 - 1.7m

25 - 250k
26 - 250k
27 - 300k
28 - 300k

and up to 12 million in incentives, as previously reported, can be earned....

clearly they are looking at this as a three year deal... without the guaranteed money in '27 & '28, chances are he's not going to get the 6 & 8 million dollar salaries...

Having a solid lead back like Rhamondre locked up for reasonable base money is a good move towards establishing a foundation for a reliable running game. Bringing in a dedicated 3rd down back is another step forward. How to replace the Zeke role is up for debate. Giving opportunities to developmental players ready to step up is good business for all positions that are not QB. Fans don't always have good insight into non-starters, let's hope that the coaches see something in Harris.

tremendous deal for both the team and the player, given his position.
he gets money upfront, the team is not on the hook for any guarantees on the back end, and the dead cap hits are minimal the last 2 seasons.
everyone said wait for the official numbers and they look really good all the way around

I specifically said none of the guys being discussed were in Barry Sander's stratosphere, but if he had to wait his turn behind another great player on the depth chart... then a player like Kevin Harris probably won't send Rhamondre and Zeke to the bench.
