For Rebuild Year One - The OL Isn't That Bad

Bakhtiari is going to be 33 this year and played 13 total games the past 3 years. Pass for me.
Who you got instead? Are we good to go with what we have at LT? I don’t think so.

When Bakhtiari is on the field, he’s the best of the best.

The bigger issue for me is that this line is better on paper than they play as a unit, and, on paper, they're not great, better than 2023, maybe, but not great.

In 2024 it’s better to have youth and help those players grow to be better. Young players get less reps when broken older players are getting the snaps. By the end of 2024 if its apparent we don’t have a starting LT on the roster… then draft and or sign a younger LT in 2025.

That sounds painful to the QBs.

Bring him in on a show me contract and see if he’s got anything left.

I would think if Bakhtiari is going to move out od GB and take one more swing at playing, NE would be at the bottom of his list on where to play. he is from Cali. played in Colo while in school and prob would follow Rodgers if given the chance.
the Pats paid Okorafor. the Pats drafted Wallace. play them

It’s not if, but when…

Bakhtiari-Sow-Andrews-Onwenu-Wallace or Okorafor.

That’ll do, Pig. That’ll do.

I still think he’s waiting to sign with the Jete and re-join A-a-ron…

I’m fully prepared for LT to hold this team hostage for part of the season much as RT did two seasons ago.

I hope but don’t expect RTs Wallace and Okorafor to come out of the gates very effectively. VLowe—Didn’t he play LT at Illinois?—or bringing back McDermott sound like other options.

So much depends on Calvin Anderson.

It’s a big question mark that easily could lead to this scenario: blindspot pass coverage stumbles. Brissett gets hurt.

Zappe still on the team? No? Put in Maye.

Rinse and repeat.

Anyone else thinking of this scenario?

Where would he play though? They already signed Tyron Smith to play LT.
Smith hasn’t played a full season since 2015. In the last 8 seasons he played in 13 games 5 times, 11 games, 5 games, and 2 games. Olu Fashanu is an excellent prospect but if Smith goes down early the Green Slime will be in deep trouble. Ipso facto signing Bakhtiari makes great sense for them IMHO.

A couple news articles over the past 2 months…

After being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers in February, it took just over two weeks for tackle Chukwuma Okorafor to sign a one-year deal with the New England Patriots.

His quick decision was based off of opportunity, as the Patriots represented a chance for him to see the field immediately upon arrival.

That opportunity, however, comes with a positional switch from right to left tackle.

“I’ve been in the NFL for a while now. If I knew I couldn’t do it, I wouldn’t have chosen to do it,” Okorafor said after OTA’s on Monday. “It will take time, but I know who I am and what I can do.”

“He played there in college,” Wolf said of Okorafor’s experience on the left side. “And so, we went back and watched that film.”

Okorafor twice earned first-team All-MAC honors during his collegiate career. He started all 26 games at left tackle between his junior and senior years en route to the Reese’s Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine.

“Obviously evaluated him when he was coming out,” added Wolf. “And he’s an athletic, big guy, so we feel like he can make that transition — or make that transition back — to playing on the left.”

“If the season started tomorrow, I think it would be Okorafor. But that is probably more of a question for Coach [Jerod] Mayo.”

In 2016-17 against MAC-level talent…Just adding relevant facts, Zum. All signs point to him struggling as he transitions back to the left side. That’s almost guaranteed. Just how long will it take?

I haven’t been to OTA’s or minicamp so I can’t verify your claim he’s been struggling at LT…so I’ll have to take your word for it.

And that’s cool too… As long as Maye takes Zero snaps behind what we have now.

We seem to now have Okafor-Sow-Andrews-Onwenu-Wallace, with Anderson as the swing OT. I suppose Okorafor could end up being the swing and Anderson the LT starter.

Are you suggesting that Drake should sit for the season?

We are unlikely to sign an upgrade over any of these players.
