For Rebuild Year One - The OL Isn't That Bad

We seem to now have Okafor-Sow-Andrews-Onwenu-Wallace, with Anderson as the swing OT. I suppose Okorafor could end up being the swing and Anderson the LT starter.

Are you suggesting that Drake should sit for the season.

We are unlikely to sign an upgrade over any of these players.
That's what it sounds like Captain is saying. As much as I want Maye to play right away, this line needs to prove they are capable of pass blocking on a consistent basis before inserting Maye into the lineup.

If your next sentence below becomes reality, then that's exactly what I'm suggesting.

Not sure if these have been posted:

Okorafor (RT) does fine against Judon here:

And against a Pro-Bowler Will Anderson (51) here mostly OK, with one whiff (with the Steelers LT being consistently beaten):

But this review by an OL guru isn't good:

The Patriots signed and drafted guys who all play on the right side. It's obvious they're hoping someone can switch and play the left and run with the job. It's still unbelievable how bad Bill left the roster.

Yup

How bad is the roster?

We could have signed a FS and a LT. Then how horrible is this roster after ONE offseason. Mayo and Wolf decided to delay a bit, keep the cap money, and use it next year.

So, we'll see how HORRIBLE the roster is. A roster than can be made into a playoff contender in 2 years is NOT, is NOT a terrible roster.
===============
Consider the terrible OL
We had Brown, Strange, Andrews, Sow and Onwenu
We had Mafi, Andrews, and Love as backups.'
Even after the season Brown was considered a top free agent LT.

Sure, the OL needed another year or two.

Offense was left in a horrible situation…QB, WR and Oline. The draft proved that…along with signing FA’s.

Onwenu is not physically suited to be a RT if we are going to run a lot more outside zone, which puts a premium on smaller, more athletic guys. Got to move him back to RG. Almost certain.

Gawd, a LT position is up for grabs. Why the hades didn’t we bring in a veteran who has LT nfl experience?

Okorafor or Anderson-Sow (going to play like an all pro at his best position)-an Andrews-Onwenu-Wallace.

Our tackles are a big unknown. Okorafor needs to be on the left side. Sure he last did it there in the MAC during the Obama presidency against current FedEx drivers and car rental managers.

Don’t. Play. Maye.

This season.

There were none to be had in FA and the Pats aren't in a great bargaining position in the trade market. They got caught flat-footed when there was a run on LT's in the draft (it happens).

It's a lost year anyway and they're not going to seriously contend for another couple of seasons at least. No need to overextend yourself for this year. Let Jacoby get you to the next draft with another likely high draft pick and get your stud LT there.

They're not in a rebuild...

And when you had one position to fill on the offensive line, left tackle, to presumably come away from this offseason without one was some bad team building. If Wallace succeeds they did a great job, otherwise they screwed up.
I think Wallace is the LT

Question? What if... maye overwhelmingly shows he's qb1... do you then sit him?

Interesting.... wasn't he playing on both sides during mini camp?
As was reported by everyone that was there…Chuks spent most of the time at LT and Wallace spent most of his time at RT. Really…everyone that reported on who played where mentioned that. Practically impossible to miss that.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification I thought I heard he was on the left side. Appreciate that !
