Love is paid

The latter imo.

Cap can be manipulated as we have seen. There is no cure for rushing, and ruining, a potential elite QB.

Of course, if they don't pay him enough now, and he turns out to be a top 5 ish QB, he will reset the market in a few years.

Biggest question is whether this guy will be closer to a top 15-20 QB or top 5-10 QB.
It's a amazing with having a great season can do for a young QB... my guess is Purdy next?

It's easy, the analysis done showed playing your rookie QB, if drafted high in the first round, is not a detriment to his development, even playing on a bad team these QB's should play right away regardless of the team around them, the evidence to the contrary is non-existent.
The reality is you won't affect his development and you'll actually accelerate it.

Financially, it's also a no brainer. If you play the guy and he is good you now have the perfect modern NFL position to be in.
A franchise QB on a rookie deal after year 1 that not only frees up money to complement the roster but also entices free agents to want to play on your team.

Paying Love on 1 season is scary. If we had to pay Mac Jones after season 1, how would that have worked out?
This was done because the market for QB'S is growing.. had they waited likely GB is paying him north of 200 million.. I'm all for the players getting paid.. Drake is going to be in line in a year or 2.

You are 100% right and I believe they have no choice but to sign him, just a greater than average risk not seeing at least 2 full years of a QB before committing franchise QB money.

Agreed! Love is a star in the making.. I really like his game and how he elevates his team. I feel like we have the same type of guy in maye. GB had alot of house money to work with... from farve to Rodgers, now Rodgers to love.. wolf was also there during that time. If if love ends up say 12th or 14th best QB he still is in line for a bigger pay day next contract.

Loving the enthusiasm : but I am much more guarded. I’m not saying he WON’T make it, but I’m not even willing to crown Love’s *** (thank you DG, rip), let alone proclaim anything about Maye.

Well, of course maye still has to do it on the field
Difference here is love has been in the league a few seasons, and was able to sit under Rodgers.

We don't have that option. I believe maye is the real deal. He will, like every rookie take his Ls but I believe he can be the guy to lead this team.

My brain translated a quick glance at the thread title into something about paying for love.

That girl has great control of her gag reflex in the top photo.

The key is to keep repeating to yourself how much the geezer is worth.

I hope you’re right. Getting the QB settled is huge

I mean, I get the whole "gotta pay your quarterback" thing to an extent but at what point are you just overdoing it? Jordan Love? STRUCK GOLD? Please. They struck aluminum foil in a world of toilet paper (idk what that even means just go with it) let's not overstate how good this guy is
it's not like he's the GOAT like Mahomes.

I was hearing a lot of bad things about Love while he was sitting behind Rodgers in GB, but he's had a really good first season at QB. I was really impressed with him carving up the Cowboys and making the 49ers sweat. Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd were excellent pick ups. Top teams in the NFC going into 2024 are 49ers, Lions and Packers.

That's Anna Nicole Smith and they were married and she inherited squadoosh.

Just curious what everyone thinks.

What is a worse scenario?

Waiting to Play your rookie QB so he has plenty of time to develop but then having to pay him a massive contract with a small sample size of play.

Or

Playing your rookie QB right away at the risk of him not having enough time to develop.

Depends upon the situation. As far as Maye goes just wait until the OL is good. However, if it becomes clear that he’s passed the tests and obstacles to become a franchise QB then pay him early, and for the long term, as then you can focus on the rest of the team for years to come.

I thought the Jags did it 100% correctly
they played Lawrence and he obviously took his lumps with poor coaching, poor OL play and poor weapons. but the team improved all 3 and Lawrence responded. he has played well to very well, showing glimpses of great, but not quite.
they looked at the alternative and decided he was their guy the next 5-7 years. they have seen him improve, and as they improve the team around him they believe he will be great.
they paid him in todays dollars over the next 7 years, with his cap hit over the next 5 under 6% and never more than 15%.
very, very good deal for the team, allowing them 5 years to build around Lawrence. in 5 years they can then decide what's next.

Mi don’t know how much sitting behind Rodgers matters, but sitting and learning the system, with all its options and reads definitely matters. Rodgers is a self centered *******, who just did as he pleased when he was on the field. In one playoff game Adams was the only WR he threw to in their loss. Unlike Brissett most starting QB’s aren’t going to tutor their successors, and that’s normal, but Rodgers is a special kind of narcissistic *******, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he never spoke to Love.

Agree. He is strange dude for real. This recent hiatus away from his teams mandatory camp is another odd thing in such an odd dude. On the field the guys been probably one of best throwers of the football every seen. His knock has been he has only been to 1 superbowl. But Rodgers sat behind farve I'm sure farve had to teach him alot about the game. However I believe Brissett genuinely likes Drake and wants to actually help him. I belive Brissett could be a great back up QB for us.

They obviously don't have another viable option. And, they're banking (literally) on him being what they hope every team hopes their QB will be. It is what it is.

If Drake becomes truly worthy of huge money, then that's a good spot to be in, and I'd be happy with that!
