Alleged Character Issues in Patriots Draft

As I get older, my attitude vis-à-vis these bad characters guys has changed. In my 20s, I’d have simply asked ‘can they play ?’

Now, as an older person, I’m not so interested in them at all. I’d rather they go with high character players whenever possible and only gamble once in a while.

Winning is the best. But I’ll admit : I was already weary about that guy when he was talking about being a top 10 WR in the league today ! Showing up w an entourage - if true - isn’t a good look.

I agree, but those diva types are more common at that position. that has certainly factored into to the previous admin's inability to identify, draft and develop true #1 WRs.

Gotta be careful or we could end up with a murderer on our team. Imagine

But honestly of all those reports the only one that is actually concerning is Baker. Seems they took a chance with the belief that he has some kind of star potential that may be worth the risk. I'm okay with it.

He was referring to the draft, where he was the 19th WR taken (Polk was in fact the 10th).

If he was downgraded for character concerns he might well be correct.

Provided he can keep his head straight, I think he will become a good receiver. He actually separates really well.

We’ve heard through multiple sources that Bill purposely would avoid a more talented player who may have character issues in favor of a less talented player that was a gentlemen. However, there were rare exceptions.

The reality is, if you want to field a good competitive team, you’re going to have to roll the dice on some knuckleheads who are talented.
Absolutely, while I understand character issues matter. I haven't heard anything about any of the draft picks having issues. They made it through college and we're good enough character guys to get drafted so that's all that matters.

We can't win with all choir boys!

With the hundreds if not thousands of NFL players to come through the Pats front door over the last 23 years relatively few were bad hombres.

Hernandez was the worst. Kraft always patted himself on the back because his players were not typically in trouble. People here want to believe that nothing will change and that Mayo is the same as BB. Randy Moss feared what BB would do if he persisted complaining about money. Same with Gronk.
Actually randy wasn't afraid to speak up and almost signed with the eagles if Bill didn't increase his offer to 9 million. Gronk just gave no Fs and wasn't going to kiss Bills ass.

Yep. As long as he doesn't commit crimes vs people he can do whatever he wants without any judgement from me......as long as he is good and they win.

“Show me the Money !!!!”

Mayo and Slater are not in the lockeroom.
Hence the motivational mural and inspirational inland lighthouse w/ tiny bell

Very soothing

The reality is, if you want to field a good competitive team, you'd better avoid locker room cancers that are going to distract the team from football and create negativity. And, you should avoid players who have demonstrated a lack of drive to be better, negating their superior talent. You should avoid divas who make everything about them and will only do with THEY want to do for the team, not what the team needs.

Getting low character guys is a dangerous game. Al Davis was famous for it, and look how that worked out. BB was famous for the opposite (with a few notable exceptions that we all know). Look how that worked out.

If you're thinking of drafting or signing a guy with character questions, you better take a long, hard look, have leaders who can limit damage, and be prepared to cut.

I doubt Baker is on the team next year.

Breaking: person who plays violent sport may have character issues.
I feel really good about polk and baker.. love what I've seen, heard about these guys. I also love that the organization being more forthcoming and letting the players talk and express themselves. That will help them transition on the field better IMO

Moss kept complaining about money and was gone. BB got rid of him. BB did not care that Moss was a HOF WR and the best during his tenure as NE HC.

BB benched Butler in the SB. BB got rid of Welker for being a cancer. BB was rumored to have a deal in place to send Gronk packing. Gronk caved and quit acting a fool. If Gronk did not care then why did he give up on his Jihad to be the highest paid TE?

BB that's why. The players respected him and respect is earned. You just don't automatically acquire it becoming an NFL HC.

Mayo has made it a point to highlight one of his goals is to teach the kids how to become better men, husbands, fathers, sons..etc.

Let's give Mayo a shot to implement his theory and let's give the kids a shot.

I'm all for having a shorter leash on guys who come in with some baggage but to completely be out on a guy because Bedard said something is weak.

Then again, there's the Antonio Brown end of the spectrum.
Fred Tomiln Sanford

The Steelers were a circus with Bell and Brown because Fred Tomiln is a players coach like Mayo who appeased the players rather than kicking them in axx.
